The Role of the SLC Transporters Protein in the Neurodegenerative Disorders

Asli Aykaç,Ahmet Özer Şehirli 대한정신약물학회 2020 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.18 No.2

The solute carrier (SLC) superfamily is one of the major sub-groups of membrane proteins in mammalian cells. The solute carrier proteins include more than 400 different membrane-spanning solute carriers organized with 65 families in the human. In solute carrier family neurons, neurotransmitter is considered to be a pharmacological target of neuropsychiatric drugs because of their important role in the recovery of neurotransmitters such as GABA, glutamate, serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline and regulation of their concentration in synaptic regions. Therefore, solute carrier transporters play vital and different roles in neurodegenerative disorders. In this article, the role of solute carrier transporters in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington disease, Parkinson’s diseases, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, dementia, schizophrenia, and Epilepsy reviewed and discussed to see how defects or absences in SLC transporter cause neurodegenerative disorders. In this review, we try to summarize what is known about solute carriers with respect to brain distribution and expression. The review summarizes current knowledge on the roles of solute carrier transporters in neurodegenerative disorders.

Faun Tail Nevus and Spinal Dysraphism: Cosmetic Improvement with Alexandrite Laser Epilation

Asli Feride Kaptanoglu,Erkan Kaptanoglu 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.-

Faun-tail presents as an abnormal lumbosacral hypertrischosis and may be associated with spinal dysrasphism. In addition to the problems due to spinal anomalies, patient’s physico-social life may also be affected. Here, we report a case of 13 years old female patient with Faun-tail in association with sypinal dysraphism, in which cosmetic improvement was achieved with the help of Alexandrite laser. Alexandrite laser can be the method of choice for permanent hair removal method due to its safe, effective and easy to apply properties. (Ann Dermatol 23(S3) S296∼S298,2011)

Severe Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy in Pheochromocytoma: Importance of Susceptibility-Weighted MRI

        Asli Serter,Alpay Alkan,Ayse Aralasmak,Ercan Kocakoc 대한영상의학회 2013 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.14 No.5

Pheochromocytoma is a rare cause of hypertension in children. Hypertension is one of the common reasons of posterior reversible encephalopathy. Intracerebral hemorrhage is a serious and unexpected complication of hypertensive encephalopathy due to pheochromocytoma, and very rarely seen in the childhood. Intracerebral hemorrhages should be searched if there are hypertensive reversible signal changes on the brain. Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) is a more sensitive method than conventional MRI when demonstrating cerebral microhemorrhagic foci. This is the first report of SWI findings on intracerebral hemorrhages in basal ganglia, brain stem and periventricular white matter due to hypertensive encephalopathy in a child with pheochromocytoma.

Characterization of electroless Ni(ZrO2) coated Ti alloy fabricated by sintering for biomedical materials

Asli Betül Yönetken,Ahmet Yönetken 한양대학교 청정에너지연구소 2024 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.25 No.1

In this study, It was aimed to produce Ti martis Electroless Ni coated ZrO2 ceramic powders added composites and to revealthe properties of the produced composites by characterizing them. It was preferred to use ceramic-metal powder electrolessnickel plating method in sample preparation. While ZrO2, known for its biocompatibility, was chosen as the reinforcementmaterial, Titanium (Ti) powders were preferred as the matrix powder. Different compositions were studied in the experimentalphase of the Ti martis Electroless Ni coated ZrO2 ceramic added. After these compositions were prepared, a conventional (tube)oven was used for sintering processes. The sintering temperature was chosen as 1100ᵒC in the tube furnace. After sintering, thesamples were examined mechanically, physically and metallographically. SEM-EDX, XRD analyzes and Vikers hardness testswere applied to characterize the produced composites. Additionally, the densities of the produced composites were calculated

Changes in mandibular transversal arch dimensions after rapid maxillary expansion procedure assessed through cone-beam computed tomography

        Asli Baysal,Ilknur Veli,Faruk Izzet Ucar,Murat Eruz,Torun Ozer,Tancan Uysal 대한치과교정학회 2011 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.41 No.3

Objective: This study aimed at evaluating the changes in mandibular arch widths and buccolingual inclinations of mandibular posterior teeth after rapid maxillary expansion (RME). Methods: Baseline and post-expansion cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) images of patients who initially had bilateral posterior cross-bite and underwent RME with a banded-type expander were assessed in this study. The patients included 9 boys (mean age: 13.97 ± 1.17 years) and 11 girls (mean age: 13.53 ± 2.12 years). Images obtained 6 months after retention were available for 10 of these patients. Eighteen angular and 43 linear measurements were performed for the maxilla and mandible. The measurements were performed on frontally clipped images at the following time points; before expansion (T1), after expansion (T2), and after retention (T3). Statistical significance was assessed with paired sample t-test at p < 0.05. Results: T1-T2 comparisons showed statistically significant post-RME increases for all measurements; similarly, T2-T1 and T3-T1 comparisons showed statistically significant changes. The maxillary linear and angular measurements showed decreases after expansion, and mandibular linear and angular measurements increased after retention. Conclusion: All mandibular arch widths increased and mandibular posterior teeth were uprighted after RME procedure.

      • Evaluation of alveolar bone loss following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

        Asli Baysal,Tancan Uysal,Ilknur Veli,Torun Ozer,Irfan Karadede,Seyit Hekimoglu 대한치과교정학회 2013 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.43 No.2

Objective: To evaluate the changes in cortical bone thickness, alveolar bone height, and the incidence of dehiscence and fenestration in the surrounding alveolar bone of posterior teeth after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) treatment using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: The CBCT records of 20 subjects (9 boys, mean age: 13.97 ± 1.17 years; 11 girls, mean age: 13.53 ± 2.12 year) that underwent RME were selected from the archives. CBCT scans had been taken before (T1) and after (T2) the RME. Moreover, 10 of the subjects had 6-month retention (T3) records. We used the CBCT data to evaluate the buccal and palatal aspects of the canines, first and second premolars, and the first molars at 3 vertical levels. The cortical bone thickness and alveolar bone height at T1 and T2 were evaluated with the paired-samples t-test or the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Repeated measure ANOVA or the Friedman test was used to evaluate the statistical significance at T1, T2, and T3. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: The buccal cortical bone thickness decreased gradually from baseline to the end of the retention period. After expansion, the buccal alveolar bone height was reduced significantly; however, this change was not statistically significant after the 6-month retention period. During the course of the treatment, the incidence of dehiscence and fenestration increased and decreased, respectively. Conclusions: RME may have detrimental effects on the supporting alveolar bone, since the thickness and height of the buccal alveolar bone decreased during the retention period.

Comparison of three different orthodontic wires for bonded lingual retainer fabrication

        Asli Baysal,Tancan Uysal,Nisa Gul,Melike Busra Alan,Sabri Ilhan Ramoglu 대한치과교정학회 2012 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.42 No.1

Objective: We evaluated the detachment force, amount of deformation, fracture mode, and pull-out force of 3 different wires used for bonded lingual retainer fabrication. Methods: We tested 0.0215-inch five-stranded wire (PentaOne, Masel; group I), 0.016 × 0.022-inch dead-soft eight-braided wire (Bond-ABraid, Reliance; group II), and 0.0195-inch dead-soft coaxial wire (Respond, Ormco; group III). To test detachment force, deformation, and fracture mode, we embedded 94 lower incisor teeth in acrylic blocks in pairs. Retainer wires were bonded to the teeth and vertically directed force was applied to the wire. To test pull-out force, wires were embedded in composite that was placed in a hole at the center of an acrylic block. Tensile force was applied along the long axis of the wire. Results: Detachment force and mode of fracture were not different between groups. Deformation was significantly higher in groups II and III than in group I (p < 0.001). Mean pull-out force was significantly higher for group I compared to groups II and III (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Detachment force and fracture mode were similar for all wires, but greater deformations were seen in dead-soft wires. Wire pull-out force was significantly higher for five-stranded coaxial wire than for the other wires tested. Five-stranded coaxial wires are suggested for use in bonded lingual retainers.

Weakly equivariant classification of small covers over a product of simplicies

Asli Guclukan Ilhan,Sabri Kaan Gurbuzer 대한수학회 2022 대한수학회지 Vol.59 No.5

Given a dimension function $\omega$, we introduce the notion of an $\omega$-vector weighted digraph and an $\omega$-equivalence between them. Then we establish a bijection between the weakly $(\mathbb{Z}/2)^n$-equivariant homeomorphism classes of small covers over a product of simplices $\Delta^{\omega(1)}\times\cdots \times \Delta^{\omega(m)}$ and the set of $\omega$-equivalence classes of $\omega$-vector weighted digraphs with $m$-labeled vertices, where $n$ is the sum of the dimensions of the simplicies. Using this bijection, we obtain a formula for the number of weakly $(\mathbb{Z}/2)^n$-equivariant homeomorphism classes of small covers over a product of three simplices.
