The steady state reached by a system of particles sliding down a fluctuating surface has interesting properties. Particle clusters form and break rapidly, leading to a broad distribution of sizes and large fluctuations. The density-density correlation function is a singular scaling function of the separation and system size. A simple mapping is shown to take a configuration of sliding hard-core particles with mutual exclusion (a system which shows a cusp singularity) to a configuration with multiparticle occupancy. For the mapped system, a calculation of the correlation function shows that it is of the same scaling form again, but with a stronger singularity (a divergence) of the sort observed earlier for noninteracting passive particles. Geneti Algorithm Optimization Tool for Channel Estimation and Symbol Detection in Mimo-OFDM Systems

The quality of wireless media is described by three parameters. These parameters are its transmission range, transmission rate and reliability. In the conventional OFDM systems one parameter can be increased on the cost of decreasing other two parameters. However by combining MIMO with OFDM systems, all the three parameters can be improved simultaneously. Symbol detection and channel estimation are the two essential tasks of MIMO-OFDM system. These tasks can be excellently achieved by various other recently developed algorithms such as maximum likelihood (ML) detector, LMS, RLS etc. All these algorithms face a common problem of robustness. Also the complexity of these algorithms is very high in the system with large number of transmitters and receivers and having large constellation size. Therefore, we are using the NLMS estimator. But it doesn’t provide the optimal solution. Genetic algorithm has the advantages of significantly less computational complexity, greater robustness and is closer to the optimal solution. Hence in this paper we are using Genetic algorithm based NLMS estimator to accomplish these tasks and to achieve results near to optimal solution. Comparisons between the results obtain from GA optimized NLMS estimator and plane NLMS estimator has been shown for better understanding.
Power Efficiency Model for Cloud Servers based on a Hybrid Meta-heuristic Optimization Algorithm

The burgeoning demand of Cloud infrastructure has engendered an escalation in the energy consumption pattern of the data centers around the globe. The capability to handle multitudinous sizeable applications is a desideratum in today’s data centers. This stirs up the issue of on-demand resourceprovisioning as well as apportioning the workload in accordance with the time- varying demands. Oftentimes, there is a propensity to apportion data center resources statically, to various applications, based on peak load characteristics. This aids in maintenance of isolation, renders good quality of service and performance guarantees. In data center deployments, delivering high performance has been the solitary concern. Its ramification is the negligence of energy consumption in the process. High energy consumption has many repercussions, for instance, it translates to high operational costs, which is entailed by reduction of the marginal profit of Cloud service providers. Its aftermath is high carbon- emissions which are not ecologically friendly. Henceforth, energy-efficient solutions need to be devised so as to curtail the adverse effects of Cloud computing on the environment. Otherwise, Cloud computing with progressively persistent front-end client-devices interrelating with back-end data centers will cause an enormous escalation of energy usage. To address this problem, the concept of Green Cloud computing has been modelled in this work through the usage of ACO and GA optimization technique. This will lead to the decimation in the energy consumption in data centers. The results will be appraised on the basis of total power consumed and number of jobs completed in the MATLAB 2010a environment.

Natural injuries and their causes have recently garnered attention amongst researchers, however the effects of these injuries on life history traits are still sparsely investigated. In the few studies that have been conducted injuries are known to have a debilitating effect on male virility and reproductive performance. Thus the effect of leg injuries in males on mating behaviour and reproductive output in the ladybird beetle, Menochilus sexmaculatus was investigated. This is the first study on the effect of injury on any life history trait in Coccinellidae. The legs of the male were amputated at three different joints on the same side and opposite sides for one leg or two legs. These amputated males were paired with uninjured females and the mating behaviour and subsequent reproductive output was observed. Time to commence mating, latent period and mating duration in impaired males were observed and were all found to be higher than that of uninjured males. Fecundity and percent egg viability were reduced in all impaired male pairs. Males with physical disability were found to copulate for an extended duration, perhaps to ensure maximum paternity.

Background: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy has been reported to be very efficacious for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other anxiety-related conditions. However, a review of the literature reveals the sparse use of this therapy in the field of pediatric dentistry. This study aimed to evaluate anxiety trends in pediatric dental patients during local anesthesia and extraction with and without EMDR therapy. Methods: Children in the age range of 8–12 years who required dental extractions were assigned randomly into two groups: an EMDR group (group 1) and a routine behavior management therapy group (group 2; receiving more traditional interventions such as tender love and care behavioral modeling, and distraction). Anxiety scores were recorded at four levels using the visual facial anxiety scale (VFAS) preoperatively, after therapy, after the administration of local anesthesia (LA), and after extraction. Results: Reduced anxiety was observed after the delivery of EMDR therapy, after LA administration, and post-extraction in the EMDR group compared to pre-operative anxiety scores of anxiety (P < 0.001; unpaired Student’s t and Mann-Whitney U tests). In the control group, mild reductions in anxiety after routine behavior management therapy were observed, accompanied by spikes in anxiety levels after LA and extractions. Conclusion: EMDR therapy was found to be valuable for reducing anxiety among pediatric dental patients during tooth extraction procedures.
Design and Optimization of Winglet Shapes for Cambered Aerofoil

The aim of the current research work is to identify the optimum angle for winglets that control the boundary layer by generating vortices over an aerofoil. A cambered aerofoil was used to compare the spiroid, split-scimitar, and blended winglets with modified angles. Numerical analysis in Fluent software using k-omega SST turbulence models with Navier–stokes equations was carried out. The winglets were tested at a Mach number of 0.03. Based on the simulation results, the optimized winglets were fabricated and tested using a subsonic tunnel. The results showed that the optimum angles for the split, blended and spiroid winglets were respectively 140°, 95° and 40°. The NACA 6321 aerofoil at an angle of 95° for blended winglet has provided higher aerodynamic efficiency when compared to other. The optimized angle of the winglet enhanced the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft by controlling the induced drag at different angles of attack.
Rouviere’s Sulcus: A Guide to Safe Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Purpose: Rouviere’s sulcus (RS) serves as an important anatomical landmark to avoid bile duct injuries during a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, there is significant paucity in literature regarding its surgical importance during laparoscopic surgeries. The aim of this study was to identify cases where RS was identified before dissection of the Calot’s triangle. Methods: For this retrospective observational study, 500 patients who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy at our hospital and who were operated on between September 2017 to August 2022 were reviewed. Identification of RS and its types were analyzed. Results: Among all 500 cases, RS was present in 465 (93%) cases whereas it was absent in only 35 (7%) cases. RS was present in different forms of cholelithiasis. Open, closed, slit like, and scar type of RS was found in 75.29%, 12.90%, 3.21%, and 8.20%, respectively. Identification of RS along with achieving a critical view of safety in antero-superior direction to RS resulted in no injury to the bile duct in all 465 cases. Conclusion: Identification of RS along with achieving a critical view of safety should be the aim in all laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures. The RS is as an important landmark to reduce biliary tract injuries.
Effect of Annealing Temperature on the Structural and Optical Properties of ZrO2 Thin Films

Transparent thin films of pure and nickel-doped ZrO2 are grown successfully by sol-gel dip-coating technique. The structural and optical properties according to the different annealing temperatures (300 oC, 400 oC and 500 oC) are investigated. Analysis of crystallographic properties through X-ray diffraction pattern reveals an increase in crystallite size due to increase in crystallinity with temperature. All fabricated thin films are highly-oriented along (101) planes, which enhances the increase in nickel doping. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy are employed to confirm the homogeneity in surface morphology as well as the doping configuration of films. The extinction coefficient is found to be on the order of 102, showing the surface smoothness of deposited thin films. UV-visible spectroscopy reveals a decrease in the optical band gap with the increase in annealing temperature due to the increase in crystallite size. The variation in Urbach energy and defect density with doping and the change in annealing temperature are also studied.
언어 친숙성 가설과 지연청각역입: 칸나다어(L1)-영어(L2) 이중언어사용 일반아동의 구어붕괴

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 칸나다어(Kannada, L1)-영어(L2) 이중언어 아동에게서 나타나는 구어붕괴에 대해 언어친숙성 가설이 미치는 영향을 지연청각역입기(delayed auditory feedback, DAF)를 이용하여 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 14명의 참여자를 L2 숙달도에 따라 숙달도가 높은 군과 낮은 군으로 나누었다(각 7명씩). 150 ms와 250 ms의 지연청각역입 상황에서 L1과 L2 모두를 이용하여 표준문단을 낭독하고 질문에 대답하게 하는 과제를 시행하였다. 결과: 구어붕괴는 실험과제에 따라 조음오류, 반복오류, 기타오류로 나누었다. 더짧은 지연시간(150 ms)에서는 과제특정적(task-specific)인 구어오류가 나타났으나 더 긴 지연시간(250 ms)에서는 이런 오류가 나타나지 않았다. 문단낭독 과제에서는 L1과 L2에서 각각 반복오류와 조음오류가 나타났으나 기타오류는 대답하기 과제에서 더 빈번하게 나타났다. 흥미롭게도 L2 숙달도가 낮은 화자는 L1의 실험과제 전반에 걸쳐 더 높은 조음오류를 보였다. 두 언어를 비교해 본 결과 과제특 정적 특성을 보이는 L1에서의 구어붕괴가 더 크게 나타났다. 모국어(L1)에서 문단낭독 시에는 조음오류가, 대답하기에서는 반복오류가 관찰되었다. 논의 및 결론: 이중언어 습득에 대한 언어친숙성 가설에 대한 반박도 있지만 본 연구는 청각지연 상황에서 일어나는 구어 붕괴에 대해 주의력 통제가 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 포함하는 대안적 설명을 제시하고 있다. 또한 본 연구결과는 말더듬을 동반한 이중 언어 화자에 대한 임상적 시사점을 제시해준다. Objectives: The study examined the language familiarity hypothesis on speech disruptions in Kannada (L1)-English (L2) bilinguals using delayed auditory feedback (DAF). Methods: Fourteen participants were classified into high and low L2 proficient bilingual groups (n= 7 each). Experimental tasks involved reading the standard passages and answering questions in both L1 and L2 on 150 ms and 250 ms DAF. Speech disruptions were grouped into articulatory, repetition, and other errors for the experimental tasks. A shorter delay of 150 ms, but not the longer delay (250 ms) showed task specific speech errors. Results: Reading passages showed repetition and articulatory errors in L1 and L2, respectively, but other errors were more common while answering questions. Interestingly, low L2 proficient speakers showed higher articulatory errors in L1 across the experimental tasks. Between language comparisons revealed greater speech disruptions in L1, which was specific to the experimental task. Articulatory errors during reading and repetition errors while answering the questions were observed in the native language (L1). While refuting the language familiarity hypothesis in bilinguals, current findings favour task specific variation in speech disruptions in typical bilinguals. Conclusion: Current findings propose alternative explanations including the influence of attention control on speech disruptions under auditory delay. Findings also offer implications for the current research on bilingual speakers with stuttering.
