The purpose of this paper is to understand the influence of country personality dimensions and product involvement on European consumers purchase and visit intentions, considering the Portuguese context. The increasing economic globalisation has resulted in the reducing of trade barriers between nations and the availability of more foreign products and services across borders. Therefore, the place associations of these products and services might be regarded as a potential competitive differentiator in their respective markets. A questionnaire measuring country personality dimensions, product involvement, and consumer’s purchase and visit intention was passed on a sample of 335 European consumers. This study rather assesses common CP within European consumers and offers a new perspective about the influence of CP dimensions and PI on European consumers’ purchasing and visiting intentions. Findings show that product involvement and wickedness have a significant influence, positive and negative respectively, on consumer’s purchase intentions, whereas assiduousness and product involvement have a significant positive influence on consumer’s visit intentions. On developing marketing strategies, international marketers and governmental decision-makers should consider product involvement attributes and specific country personality traits to provide the country’s products with a competitive edge, as well as to promote the country as a travelling destination.
Prefrontal Cortex and Hippocampus Inflammation in Mice Fed High-Carbohydrate or High-Fat Diets

We previously reported that a high-carbohydrate diet (HCD) induced systemic inflammation and higher gene expression of proinflammatory mediators in the liver, skeletal muscle, and brain than a high-fat diet (HFD). However, the differences between the groups were less pronounced in the brain. In this study, we extended the evaluation of inflammation to specific areas of the brain. In this study, we evaluated the gene expression of caspase 2, caspase 3, caspase 9, cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox 2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin (IL), IL-6, IL-1β, IL-10, IL-4, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), integrin subunit alpha m (Itgam), S100 protein (S100), allograft inflammatory factor 1 (Aif1), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (Gfap) in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of male Swiss mice that were fed with HCD or HFD for 8 weeks. The HCD group exhibited higher IL-1β expression, whereas the HFD group showed higher TNF-α expression in the prefrontal cortex. In the hippocampus, TNF-α expression was higher in the HFD group. IL-1β and TNF-α are proinflammatory cytokines that have been associated with impaired brain function and numerous brain disorders. Our results indicate that both HCD and HFD promote prefrontal cortex inflammation; however, the hippocampus seems more sensitive to a HFD than HCD.
Nutritional Quality Changes of Fresh-cut Tomato during Shelf Life
Maria D.C. Antunes,Daniela Rodrigues,Vasilios Pantazis,Ana M. Cavaco,Anastasios S. Siomos,Graça Miguel 한국식품과학회 2013 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.22 No.5
Effects of dip treatments on nutritional quality preservation during the shelf life of fresh-cut tomato (Licopersicum esculentum Mill.) cv. Eufrates were investigated. Fresh-cut tomatoes were dipped in solutions of 2% ascorbic acid, citric acid, and calcium lactate for 2min, then stored at 4ºC for 20 days. Color (L*, a*, and b*),firmness, ºBrix, phenolics, ascorbic acid content, antioxidant activity (DPPH), and sugars were measured during storage. Pathogen development was monitored, and a sensory evaluation was performed. Ascorbic acid was better in maintaining firmness. No treatments significantly affected ºBrix, color, or sugars. Ascorbic acid maintained a higher antioxidant capacity, phenolics, and ascorbic acid content, and was better at reducing bacterial growth, while citric acid treatment was better at prevention of yeast and molds proliferation. Fresh-cut tomatoes showed good quality after 10 days of shelf life, except for flavor with the calcium lactate treatment. Ascorbic acid treatment better preserved the general and nutritional quality parameters.

Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of final irrigation with cold saline solution after endodontic treatment compared with saline solution at room temperature against postoperative pain following endodontic treatment. Materials and Methods A broad search was performed in the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Virtual Health Library (LILACS), and Grey Literature databases. Two independent reviewers performed data extraction, risk of bias using the Cochrane methodology, and certainty of evidence using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) approach. Results Eight studies were included in qualitative synthesis. Intracanal cryotherapy favored the reduction of postoperative pain in the systematic review. Four studies were included in meta-analyses. The meta-analysis showed that intracanal cryotherapy reduced postoperative pain in teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis (SAP) at 24 hours. There was no association between intracanal cryotherapy and control (room temperature) groups in teeth with normal periapical tissue with respect to postoperative pain at 24 hours and 48 hours. Conclusions Intracanal cryotherapy was effective in reducing postoperative pain after endodontic treatment in teeth with SAP.
