Examining Customers’ Intention of Continued Use and Cross-Buying on Internet-Only Banks

2024 Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems Vol.34 No.1

Internet-only banks (IOB) refer to financial institutions which provide services entirely through online digital platforms without physical branches. Although IOBs have been around for over 26 years, there is still room for investigating what factors motivate customers to use them continuously and extensively. Therefore, this study aims to examine what factors lead to customers’ intention of continued use and cross-buying on IOBs by extending the Post-Acceptance Model of IS Continuance (PAMISC). The result shows that perceived economic benefit and ongoing trust have significant relationships with the intention of continued use and that ongoing trust has significant direct and mediating (via intention of continued use) relationships with the intention of cross-buying. Also, personal innovativeness positively moderates the relationship between ongoing trust and the intention of cross-buying. This study sheds light on the literature on branchless financial services and PAMISC. IOB practitioners should revisit the effectiveness of customers’ economic benefits to establish ongoing trust with customers.

Total Transit Time and Probiotic Persistence in Healthy Adults: A Pilot Study

        Annie Tremblay,Jeremie Auger,Zainab Alyousif,Sara E Caballero Calero,Olivier Mathieu,Daniela Rivero-Mendoza,Amal Elmaoui,Wendy J Dahl,Thomas A Tompkins 2023 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.29 No.2

Background/AimsMotility, stool characteristics, and microbiota composition are expected to modulate probiotics’ passage through the gut but their effects on persistence after intake cessation remain uncharacterized. This pilot, open-label study aims at characterizing probiotic fecal detection parameters (onset, persistence, and duration) and their relationship with whole gut transit time (WGTT). Correlations with fecal microbiota composition are also explored. MethodsThirty healthy adults (30.4 ± 13.3 years) received a probiotic (30 × 109 CFU/capsule/day, 2 weeks; containing Lactobacillus helveticus R0052, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei HA-108, Bifidobacterium breve HA-129, Bifidobacterium longum R0175, and Streptococcus thermophilus HA-110). Probiotic intake was flanked by 4-week washout periods, with 18 stool collections throughout the study. WGTT was measured using 80% recovery of radio-opaque markers. ResultsTested strains were detected in feces ~1-2 days after first intake and persistence after intake cessation was not significantly different for R0052, HA-108, and HA-129 (~3-6 days). We identified 3 WGTT subgroups within this population (named Fast, Intermediate, and Slow), which could be classified by machine learning with high accuracy based on differentially abundant taxa. On average, R0175 persisted significantly longer in the intermediate WGTT subgroup (~8.5 days), which was mainly due to 6 of the 13 Intermediate participants for whom R0175 persisted ≥ 15 days. Machine learning classified these 13 participants according to their WGTT cluster (≥ 15 days or < 5 days) with high accuracy, highlighting differentially abundant taxa potentially associated with R0175 persistence. ConclusionThese results support the notion that host-specific parameters such as WGTT and microbiota composition should be considered when designing studies involving probiotics, especially for the optimization of washout duration in crossover studies but also for the definition of enrollment criteria or supplementation regimen in specific populations.

Vol.13 No.-

      • Educator Decision Making about Outdoor Learning Spaces in Early Childhood Education and Care Services

2018 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.12 No.2

In Australia, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) invites educators in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services to view children as learners who are confident and involved (Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, 2009) while the National Quality Standard (NQS) contends that the “educational program and practice of educators are child-centred, stimulating and maximise opportunities for enhancing and extending each child’s learning and development” (Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority [ACECQA], 2017, p. 95). Additionally, article 12 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) advises that it is a child’s right to contribute and their opinions need to be considered in decisions that affect them (United Nations Children’s Fund [UNICEF], 1996). Nonetheless, limitations appear to exist in supporting educators’ decisions and provisions in the environment and use of the outdoor learning spaces that contrast with the documents that underpin educator practice. This literature review examines the tensions between the ideal and the reality of children’s and educators’ decision making in outdoor learning spaces. It shows that strong policy alone is not sufficient unless underpinned by an environment in which educators are able to make decisions without fear of litigation and children’s perspectives are heard, respected, and enacted.

City in a Village: Imagining a Rural Future for South Korea

Vol.11 No.3

Urban migration and an aging rural population have left numerous regions of South Korea “population extinct” and its villages economically, socially and physically neglected. Top-down rural policies and the promises of modernization prioritize cities, industrialization and individualism over rural living, agriculture, and community. City in a Village 1.0 (CiViChon 1.0) is a narrative tool of invention combines conventional research methods with methods and tools from world building and narrative fiction to imagine an alternative future for village-life in South Korea. CiViChon 1.0 is a fictive village, on a fictive site, inhabited by fictive personas that projects a possible alternative future for rural Korea. Taking into account the history of modernization of the country and current realities, sand based on an epistemology of imagination, CiViChon challenges the inequality and unsustainable practices to imagine a more diverse, equitable, and physically, socially and mentally sustainable rural future. It is a shift that demands an evolutionary shift from the biospheric and geosphere to the development of the noosphere that towards greater individuation and unification of its elements as the complexity consciousness necessary to reconfigure the relationships between humans, and between humans and the non-human world.

      • EXAMINING CHINESE TOURISTS’ NATURE-BASED TOURISM PARTICIPATION BEHAVIOR : INCORPORATING ENVIRONMENTAL ATTITUDE INTO A CONSTRAINT-NEGOTIATION MODEL

2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.1

Finding the balance between economic development and preservation of the natural environment is a challenging yet important task. This is a particularly pressing issue in the case of China, as it is the largest and fastest-growing market for tourism. The purpose of this research is to examine Chinese tourists’ participation in nature-based, tourism activities by incorporating tourists’ environmental attitude, measured by the New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) scale, into a tourism constraint-negotiation model. The responses of 112 Chinese tourists were examined through CFA. The results from structural equation modeling show environmental attitude will positively affect tourists’ motivation, which, in turn, will affect their negotiation strategy and ultimately their participation behavior. On the other hand, constraints on nature-based tourism will negatively affect tourists’ participation behavior. The theoretical and managerial implications of this study are discussed in the context of the tourism literature.

Protection Against Selenite Cataract in Rat Lens by Drevogenin D, a Triterpenoid Aglycone from Dregea volubilis

        Annie Abraham,P.G. Biju,V. Gayathri Devi,Y. 2007 Journal of medicinal food Vol.10 No.2

Dregea volubilisis a woody climbing plant commonly found in the hotter parts of India. The leaves are edi-ble and used as a green vegetable, while the plant extract has been used traditionally to treat several diseases including eyeailments. Drevogenin D is a triterpenoid aglycone that has been isolated, purified, and characterized as an active componentfrom the leaves of D. volubilis. In this study, drevogenin D was evaluated for antioxidant and potential anticataractogenic ac-tivity in an in vitromodel. 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical and superoxide radical scavenging activities of drevogeninD were studied and found to exhibit a 50% inhibitory concentration of 43 .g/mL and 200.6 .g/mL, respectively. Normal ratlenses cultured in 0.1 mM sodium selenite-supplemented medium were used as the experimental model for this study. Selen-ite-induced models are excellent mimics of oxidative stress induced cataract. Treatment with drevogenin D at a concentrationof 50 .g/mL medium was found to reverse the level of activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, andglutathione reductase, elevate the level of reduced glutathione and protein sulfhydryl, and lower the level of lipid peroxida-tion as indicated by the concentration of thiobarbituric acid-reacting substances. These results indicate good antioxidant ac-tivity and potential anticataractogenic activity for drevogenin D against selenite-induced cataractous changes, which have beenreported for the first time.

Leakage Flow Influence on SHF pump model performances

        Annie-Claude Bayeul-Lainé,Patrick Dupont,Antoine Dazin,Gérard Bois,Olivier Roussette,Qiaorui Si 한국유체기계학회 2015 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.8 No.4

This paper deals with the influence of leakage flow existing in SHF pump model on the analysis of internal flow behaviour inside the vane diffuser of the pump model performance using both experiments and calculations. PIV measurements have been performed at different hub to shroud planes inside one diffuser channel passage for a given speed of rotation and various flow rates. For each operating condition, the PIV measurements have been trigged with different angular impeller positions. The performances and the static pressure rise of the diffuser were also measured using a three-hole probe. The numerical simulations were carried out with Star CCM+ 9.06 code (RANS frozen and unsteady calculations). Some results were already presented at the XXth IAHR Symposium for three flowrates for RANS frozen and URANS calculations. In the present paper, comparisons between URANS calculations with and without leakages and experimental results are presented and discussed for these flow rates. The performances of the diffuser obtained by numerical calculations are compared to those obtained by the three-holes probe measurements. The comparisons show the influence of fluid leakages on global performances and a real improvement concerning the efficiency of the diffuser, the pump and the velocity distributions. These results show that leakage is an important parameter that has to be taken into account in order to make improved comparisons between numerical approaches and experiments in such a specific model set up.
