Non-resonant Element in Slotted Ground Plane for Multiband Antenna Operation
Picher, Cristina,Anguera, Jaume,Andujar, Aurora,Bujalance, Adrian Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2014 ETRI Journal Vol.36 No.5
New ways of achieving small, multiband, multifunctional, and standard solutions for mobile handset antennas are demanded in the current wireless market. A non-resonant element of $5mm{\times}5mm{\times}5mm$, a matching network, and a $100mm{\times}40mm$ slotted ground plane are proposed to satisfy mobile market demands that require multiband operation and small antenna solutions. The main advantage of the proposed design is that with only one non-resonant element of considerably small size ($0.015{\lambda}$, 900 MHz), the handset is capable of providing operation at mobile bands.
Properties of a-C:H films deposited from a methane electron cyclotron wave resonant plasma

An electron cyclotron wave resonant methane plasma discharge was used for the high rate deposition of hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H). Deposition rates of up to 400 AA/min were obtained over substrates up to 2.5 in. in diameter with a film thickness uniformity of 10%. The deposited films were characterised in terms of their mass density, sp3 and hydrogen contents, C–H bonding, intrinsic stress, scratch resistance and friction properties. The deposited films possessed an average sp3 content, mass density and refractive index of 58%, 1.76 g/cm3 and 2.035 respectively. Mechanical characterisation indicated that the films possessed very low steady-state coefficients of friction (ca. 0.06) and a moderate shear strength of 141 MPa. Nano-indentation measurements also indicated a hardness and elastic modulus of 16.1 and 160 GPa respectively. The critical loads required to induce coating failure were also observed to increase with ion energy as a consequence of the increase in degree of ion mixing at the interface. Furthermore, coating failure under scratch test conditions was observed to take place via fracture within the silicon substrate itself, rather than either in the coating or at the film/substrate interface. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Indications and outcomes of extended pancreatectomies have been recently appraised by the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery. However, no definitive conclusions have been drawn, particularly in the setting of neoadjuvant treatments. We present here a case of 53-year-old man diagnosed with a bulky adenocarcinoma of the tail of the pancreas and infiltrating the adjacent organs and the thoracic wall. The patient was sent to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and he underwent 12 cycles of FOLFIRINOX. Since a significant radiological response was observed after chemotherapy, the patient was scheduled for extended distal pancreatectomy with en bloc resection of the thoracic wall, in order to achieve a radical resection. The surgery is herein described with all technical details. The patient was discharged after an uneventful early post-operative course and subsequently readmitted for a late grade B post-operative pancreatic fistula, which was ultimately treated successfully. Pathology showed complete response. When performed in centers with ample experience in pancreatic surgery, extended pancreatic resections represent a viable curative option with acceptable surgical outcomes. In this setting, challenging tailored resections should be considered to achieve negative margins, particularly following maximized effective downstaging strategies.
