Variables affecting strain sensing function in cementitious composites with carbon fibers

        F.J. Baeza,E. Zornoza,L.G. Andión,S. Ivorra,P. Garcés 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2011 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.8 No.2

In this work, cement paste samples with 1% (by cement mass) of a conductive carbon fiber admixture have been studied under uniaxial compression. Three different arrangements were used to measure the resistivity of the samples. According to the results obtained, the resistance should be measured using the four wire method in order to obtain good sensitivity and repeatability. The effect of the load value and the load rate on the fractional change of the volume resistivity has been determined. It has been observed that the gage factor (fractional change in resistance respect to strain) increases when the maximum load is increased, and the loading rate does not affect significantly this parameter. The effect of the sample ambient humidity on the material piezoresistivity has also been studied, showing that the response of the composite is highly affected by this parameter.

        특 집 논 문 : 도시의 급진적 미래

        앤디메리필드 ( Andy Merrifield ) 서울시립대학교 도시인문학연구소 2015 도시인문학연구 Vol.7 No.2

Over the past few years, we’ve glimpsed a resurgence of people struggling to participate in urban life. Activism here is broadly reacting to the failings of representative government and to a numbing professionalisation of social and political life. Nowadays, it’s as if only professionals can prop up representative democracy. Only professional accountants, bankers and economists supposedly know best about affecting policy, about good government and urban governance, about knowing the economic facts of austerity. This paper explores the scope for amateurs to participate in forging another urban future, a radical urban future, one that affirms a new ideal of collective consumption, of goods people share in common and consume together. A radical urban future stretches our imagination into the realm of the normative, taking us out of the real and into the possible -or, as Henri Lefebvre loved to joke, into the possible within the impossible.

Under family control: The trend of sole candidate elections in Indonesia

Yakub Andi,Armunanto Andi Ali,Haryanto 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2022 International Area Studies Review Vol.25 No.4

The rise of sole candidates in various local head elections in Indonesia has been the subject of many scholarly critical analyses. Most of the analyses perceive the phenomenon as a symptom of incumbency advantages, weak electoral systems, and poor institutionalization of political parties. This article proposes a new argument with the family-based elite perspective controlling the sole candidates’ emergence process. We compared two regions in South Sulawesi province, explaining the political family networks that dominate the political competition by limiting candidature. The sole candidate elections can be understood by looking at family-based elite networks scattered in business networks, bureaucracy, political parties, aristocrats, and grassroots mass organizations. The families use an oligarchic elite network at the national level or a plural elite network at the grassroots level. The two types of family institutions are centralized and dispersed structures: Makassar has an oligarchy, while Gowa has relatively equal elite power. The family network’s power has closed or hijacked the electoral political competition, establishing control over local elections by creating monopolistic political networks. Political family control is essential in understanding the rise of sole candidate elections in political practices.

Establishing cleft services in developing countries: Complications of cleft lip and palate surgery in rural areas of Indonesia

        Muhammad Ruslin,Lawrence Dom,Andi Tajrin,Andi Sitti Hajrah Yusuf,Syafri Kamsul Arif,Andi Husni Tanra,Keng Liang Ou,Tymour Forouzanfar,Sri Astuti Thamrin 대한성형외과학회 2019 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.46 No.6

Background Cleft treatment is frequently performed in Indonesia, mostly in charity missions, but without a postoperative protocol it is difficult to establish the risks and complicationsof cleft treatment. The present study was designed to give an overview of current cleftlip and palate treatment strategies in Indonesia and to assess the complication rates duringand after surgery. Methods This prospective study evaluated anesthetic, intraoperative surgical, and short-termpostoperative complications in patients undergoing primary, secondary, or corrective surgeryfor cleft lip and palate deformities. The population consisted of 98 non-syndromic cleft patients. The main anesthetic complication that occurred during general anesthesia was highblood pressure, whereas the main intraoperative surgical complication was excessive bleedingand the main early postoperative complication was extremely poor wound hygiene. Results In this study, there were no cases of perioperative or postoperative mortality. However,in 23 (23.4%) of the 98 operations performed, at least one perioperative complicationrelated to anesthesia occurred. The intraoperative and early postoperative complications followingcleft lip and/or palate were assessed. There was a significant difference in the complicationrate between procedure types (χ2=0.02; P<0.05). However, no relationship was foundbetween perioperative complications related to anesthesia and the occurrence of postoperativecomplications (χ2=1.00; P>0.05). Nonetheless, a significant difference was found betweenprocedure types regarding perioperative complications and the occurrence of postoperativecomplications (χ2=0.031; P<0.05). Conclusions Further evaluation of these outcomes would help direct patient managementtoward decreasing the complication rate.
