Utilization of Electronic Information Resources and Their Influence on Reading Culture of Undergraduate Students in Federal University Dutse

Aminu Ahmed BUBA,Aisha Yahya LAWAL 건국대학교 GLOCAL(글로컬)캠퍼스 지식콘텐츠연구소 2023 International Journal of Knowledge Content Develop Vol.13 No.3

A cross sectional survey method was used to determine the utilization of e-resources and their influence on the reading culture of 119 undergraduate students registered with the JD Amin library of Federal University Dutse. The data collected was analysed using both descriptive (frequency counts and means) and inferential statistics (regression analysis). The research found that databases (mean=4.00) and e-journal (mean=4.00) are available to the undergraduate students. It further found that e-resources are often utilized by the undergraduate student, with social media (mean=4.00), databases (mean=4.00) and e-journal (mean=4.00). the most commonly used e-resources. It was also found that erratic power supply (mean=3.91) and inability to seek, obtain and evaluate information (mean=3.67) are the prominent factors hindering the utilization of e-resources. The regression analysis rejected the null hypotheses of the study where it shows that the level of utilization of e-resources have positive statistical correlation (r=0.772) with the reading culture of undergraduate students. The study proposed a conceptual model for the sustainable reading culture of students by libraries providing of e-resources. The general conclusion of the research is that e-resources are necessary tools and are moderately available and adequately utilized for influencing reading culture. The study recommended that Internet facilities should be made available to undergraduate students to facilitate more utilization of e-resources.

Potential involvement of opioidergic, α1-adrenergic and serotonergic pathways in the anti-nociceptive actions of Tapinanthus globiferus A. Rich (Loranthaceae) in mice

Aminu Musa,Idris Maje,Chindo Ben,Mubarak Hussaini Ahmad 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2023 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.23 No.3

The plant Tapinanthus globiferus has gained ethnomedicinal values to manage pain, rheumatism and cancer. The current experiment investigated the anti-nociceptive action of the ethanol extract of the plant T. globiferus (EETG) and its possible mechanisms of action. Phytochemical studies and oral median lethal dose (LD50) determination were conducted as per standard experimental protocols. The anti-nociceptive properties of the EETG (250, 500 and 1,000 mg/kg) were checked against acetic acid-elicited writhing, hot plate and formalin-produced pain models in mice. To establish the potential pathways of analgesic efects of the EETG, the animals were pre-administered with naloxone (2 mg/kg, i.p), prazosin (1 mg/kg, i.p), yohimbine (1 mg/kg, i.p), propranolol (20 mg/kg, i.p), metergoline (2 mg/kg, i.p), and glibenclamide (5 mg/kg, i.p) 30 min before the EETG (500 mg/kg) administration. The phytochemical results revealed favonoids, cardiac glycosides, phenols, steroids, saponins, tannins and triterpenes. The oral LD50 was above 5,000 mg/kg in mice. The EETG efectively (P<0.001) reduced the acetic acid-produced writhes independent of dose. Besides, it signifcantly (P<0.05, P<0.01 and P<0.001) increased the pain latency in the thermally induced pain at 30, 60, and 120 min. The EETG at 500 mg/kg efciently (P<0.05) declined the second stage of formalin-caused pain response in comparison to the control animals. The pre-administration of the naloxone, prazosin and metergoline to the mice reversed the anti-nociceptive efect elicited by the EETG in the formalinproduced pain in the second stage. The experimental outcomes have revealed that the plant Tapinanthus globiferus possesses analgesic activity which could be related to the opioidergic, α1-adrenergic and serotonergic pathways.

      • Detection and Localization of Image Tampering using Deep Residual UNET with Stacked Dilated Convolution

Aminu, Ali Ahmad,Agwu, Nwojo Nnanna,Steve, Adeshina International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2021 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.21 No.9

Image tampering detection and localization have become an active area of research in the field of digital image forensics in recent times. This is due to the widespread of malicious image tampering. This study presents a new method for image tampering detection and localization that combines the advantages of dilated convolution, residual network, and UNET Architecture. Using the UNET architecture as a backbone, we built the proposed network from two kinds of residual units, one for the encoder path and the other for the decoder path. The residual units help to speed up the training process and facilitate information propagation between the lower layers and the higher layers which are often difficult to train. To capture global image tampering artifacts and reduce the computational burden of the proposed method, we enlarge the receptive field size of the convolutional kernels by adopting dilated convolutions in the residual units used in building the proposed network. In contrast to existing deep learning methods, having a large number of layers, many network parameters, and often difficult to train, the proposed method can achieve excellent performance with a fewer number of parameters and less computational cost. To test the performance of the proposed method, we evaluate its performance in the context of four benchmark image forensics datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods and could be potentially used to enhance image tampering detection and localization.

Effects of motor control exercise and patient education program in the management of chronic low back pain among community-dwelling adults in rural Nigeria: a study protocol for a randomized clinical trial

        Aminu A. Ibrahim,Mukadas O Akindele,Sokunbi O Ganiyu,Bashir Bello 한국한의학연구원 2019 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.8 No.2

Background: The impact of chronic low back pain (CLBP) is disproportionally higher in rural Nigeria than in urban areas but lack access to rehabilitation. While exercise and education are commonly advocated interventions for the rehabilitation of CLBP, there is a paucity of community-based randomized clinical trials assessing their benefits among adults with CLBP in rural Nigeria. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of motor control exercise (MCE) and patient education (PE) in the management of CLBP among community-dwelling adults in rural Nigeria. Methods: This is an assessor-blind, three-arm parallel randomized clinical trial and will be conducted at Tsakuwa Primary Health Care Center in Kano, Northwestern Nigeria. One hundred and twenty adults with CLBP will be recruited and randomized to one of three intervention arms; MCE plus PE, MCE, or PE groups. The MCE will be administered twice a week for 8 weeks while the PE will be provided once a week for 8 weeks. Participants will be assessed pre-intervention, immediately post-intervention and at 3-month post-intervention. Primary outcomes will be pain intensity and functional disability. Secondary outcomes will be quality of life, fear-avoidance beliefs, pain catastrophizing, back beliefs, global perceived recovery, and physical performance. Discussion: This will be the first community-based trial to assess the benefits of exercise and education in the management of CLBP among adults in rural Nigeria. The study may provide a relatively inexpensive, assessable, and effective alternative intervention for reducing CLBP disability in a low-resource rural Nigerian community. Trial registration: This study is registered at ClinicalTrial.gov and the trial registration number is NCT03393104.

Antagonistic effectiveness of Anacardium occidentale leaf extract on lead acetate exposure induced hepatorenal toxicity in rats

        Aisha Aminu,Hauwa Onozasi Umar,Wusa Makena,Zakaria Alhaji Isa,Zainab Muhammad Goni,Onyinoyi Bethel Onimisi,Barka Ishaku 환경독성보건학회 2023 환경독성보건학회지 Vol.38 No.4

Lead (Pb) poisoning is an environmental substance that accumulates in the hepato-renal tissue, which is hazardous to health, while Anacardium occidentale L. is a tropical herb used to treat oxidative stress and inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the antagonistic effect of Anacardium occidentale leaf extract on lead acetate exposure-induced hepatorenal toxicity in rats. Thirty-six adult Wistar rats were split into six equal groups (n = 6). Group I served as a control, and groups II and III were administered lead acetate (50 mg/kg) and Anacardium occidentale leaf extract (400 mg/kg), respectively, while rats in groups IV–VI were administered Anacardium occidentale (L) extract (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) and 10 mg/kg of Succimer, respectively, and were then administered lead acetate (50 mg/kg). When compared to the group I, rats administered lead acetate showed an increase in hepatic enzymes, urea, creatinine, MDA, TNF-α, and IL-1β (p < 0.001) levels and decreased levels of SOD, CAT, and GSH, whereas Anacardium occidentale prevented the increase in hepatorenal function parameters, oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers (TNF-α and IL-1β) induced by lead acetate. Rats administered only lead acetate had a marked increase in hepatic Pb concentration, severe hepatic steatosis, and renal glomerulus degeneration. However, treatment with Anacardium occidentale extract and succimer decreases the Pb concentration, oxidative stress, and inflammation, and also reduces histological liver steatosis and glomerular cytoarchitecture deterioration in the kidney. The results of this study revealed that Anacardium occidentale extract protects against lead acetate-induced liver and kidney toxicity by decreasing oxidative stress and inflammation.

Digital Forensic Investigation on Social Media Platforms: A Survey on Emerging Machine Learning Approaches

Abdullahi Aminu Kazaure,Aman Jantan,Mohd Najwadi Yusoff Korea Institute of Science and Technology Informat 2024 Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice Vol.12 No.1

An online social network is a platform that is continuously expanding, which enables groups of people to share their views and communicate with one another using the Internet. The social relations among members of the public are significantly improved because of this gesture. Despite these advantages and opportunities, criminals are continuing to broaden their attempts to exploit people by making use of techniques and approaches designed to undermine and exploit their victims for criminal activities. The field of digital forensics, on the other hand, has made significant progress in reducing the impact of this risk. Even though most of these digital forensic investigation techniques are carried out manually, most of these methods are not usually appropriate for use with online social networks due to their complexity, growth in data volumes, and technical issues that are present in these environments. In both civil and criminal cases, including sexual harassment, intellectual property theft, cyberstalking, online terrorism, and cyberbullying, forensic investigations on social media platforms have become more crucial. This study explores the use of machine learning techniques for addressing criminal incidents on social media platforms, particularly during forensic investigations. In addition, it outlines some of the difficulties encountered by forensic investigators while investigating crimes on social networking sites.

Digital Forensics Investigation Approaches in Mitigating Cybercrimes: A Review

Kazaure Abdullahi Aminu,Jantan Aman,Yusoff Mohd Najwadi 한국과학기술정보연구원 2023 Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice Vol.11 No.4

Cybercrime is a significant threat to Internet users, involving crimes committed using computers or computer networks. The landscape of cyberspace presents a complex terrain, making the task of tracing the origins of sensitive data a formidable and often elusive endeavor. However, tracing the source of sensitive data in online cyberspace is critically challenging, and detecting cyber-criminals on the other hand remains a time-consuming process, especially in social networks. Cyber-criminals target individuals for financial gain or to cause harm to their assets, resulting in the loss or theft of millions of user data over the past few decades. Forensic professionals play a vital role in conducting successful investigations and acquiring legally acceptable evidence admissible in court proceedings using modern techniques. This study aims to provide an overview of forensic investigation methods for extracting digital evidence from computer systems and mobile devices to combat persistent cybercrime. It also discusses current cybercrime issues and mitigation procedures.

Culture,Literature ; Northern Nigerian Garments and Caps: Uses and the Challenges for Socio-Cultural Changes

( Muhammad Fannami ),( Mohammed Aminu Muazu ) 경희대학교 글로벌인문학술원 2011 비교문화연구 Vol.24 No.-

This paper addresses some issues on the Northern Nigerian traditional garments and caps. We observed that most of the Northern Nigerian garments and caps, particularly those of the Kanuri people, have their origin in the culture and traditions of the people. In very significant ways, the garments and the caps depict the belief systems, political metaphysics, and the general consciousness of the people including their creative impulses. But as more and more people move from rural areas to the cities, travel abroad and as more and more cultures intermingle, inevitable changes catch up with the culture and tradition of the people. We observed that it is hard to find in the Northern Nigeria scene, particularly among the Kanuri people, clothes that have assumed new nomenclature other than garments and caps. We realized that, the culture and tradition of the Kanuri people wearing longer, voluminous and roomy garments preferably with cap have witnessed changes due to the blend with foreign culture. This and many other issues are discussed in this paper. The purpose of this research is to show that inspite of the Kanuri people`s strong adherence to their beliefs and culture which hardly encourage any changes, the use of their traditional garments and caps have exhibited the flexibility of their beliefs, culture and traditions. The use of the garments and caps discussed in this paper are those observed among the Kanuri people of Northern Nigeria.

Analysis of Nigeria Research Reactor-1 Thermal Power Calibration Methods

Sunday Arome Agbo,Yusuf Aminu Ahmed,Ita Okon Bassey Ewa,Yahaya Jibrin 한국원자력학회 2016 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.48 No.3

This paper analyzes the accuracy of the methods used in calibrating the thermal power ofNigeria Research Reactor-1 (NIRR-1), a low-power miniature neutron source reactor locatedat the Centre for Energy Research and Training, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. The calibration was performed at three different power levels: low power (3.6 kW), halfpower (15 kW), and full power (30 kW). Two methods were used in the calibration, namely, slope and heat balance methods. The thermal power obtained by the heat balance methodat low power, half power, and full power was 3.7 ± 0.2 kW, 15.2 ± 1.2 kW, and 30.7 ± 2.5 kW,respectively. The thermal power obtained by the slope method at half power and full powerwas 15.8 ± 0.7 kW and 30.2 ± 1.5 kW, respectively. It was observed that the slope method ismore accurate with deviations of 4% and 5% for calibrations at half and full power, respectively, although the linear fit (slope method) on average temperature-rising ratesduring the thermal power calibration procedure at low power (3.6 kW) is not fitting. Assuch, the slope method of power calibration is not suitable at lower power for NIRR-1.
