Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma agonist as a novel treatment for interstitial cystitis: A rat model

        Amandeep Mahal,Nichole Young-Lin,Amy Dobberfuhl,Jaclyn Estes,Craig Vance Comiter 대한비뇨의학회 2018 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.59 No.4

Purpose: To understand the therapeutic potential of pioglitazone, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) agonist with a propensity to cause bladder mucosal proliferation, on interstitial cystitis (IC) in a rat model. Materials and Methods: Using a previously described animal model for IC, Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with biweekly cyclophosphamide injections (35 mg/kg) to induce cystitis. Animals were divided into 4 groups (n=6 for each group): IC plus daily sham saline gavage (IC+Pio−), IC plus daily pioglitazone gavage (15 mg/kg) (IC+Pio+), normal rats with daily pioglitazone (IC−Pio+), and normal rats with neither IC nor pioglitazone (IC−Pio− or Control). At the end of four weeks, urinary frequency and bladder capacity were measured. Histologic examination of urothelial integrity was also performed. Results: Average voids per hour were significantly lower in IC+Pio+ (4.0±1.9) vs. IC+Pio− (10.0±2.4) rats (p<0.01) and were similar to IC−Pio+ (6.0±1.4) and IC−Pio− (6.0±1.5) controls. Cystometric capacity was significantly higher in IC+Pio+ (0.945±0.122 mL) vs. IC+Pio− rats (0.588±0.165 mL, p=0.01) and was comparable to IC−Pio− capacity (0.817±0.196 mL) and IC−Pio+ capacity (0.941±0.188 mL). Urothelial structural integrity was improved in IC+Pio+ rats versus IC+Pio− rats upon histologic observation. Conclusions: Pioglitazone, a PPAR-γ agonist, improved bladder function in cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis by both observed urinary frequency and measured cystometric capacity. Urothelial structural integrity was also improved. Pioglitazone, due to a propensity to cause bladder mucosal proliferation, may prove useful for treating IC, and deserves further investigation.

A Gamma Ray Tomographic Densitometer System for the Investigation of Concrete Structure

Amandeep Sharma,B. S. Sandhu,Bhajan Singh 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.41

The aim of the present study is to investigate the feasibility of gamma ray scattering to inspect density variation in any object. A densitometer system, operating in a non-destructive and non-invasive way, is presented to investigate the density variation in concrete structure. A well collimated beam of 662 keV gamma rays from ^(137)Cs radioactive source has been used to extract the information of density variation from interior of sample by recording scattered spectra with NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. An inverse matrix approach for unfolding of observed pulse-height distribution to a true photon spectrum is used, by choosing bin mesh (E^(1/2)) of 0.05 (MeV)^(1/2), for the measurements of scattered spectra. The Compton scattered intensity, obtained by unfolding (deconvolution) the experimental pulse-height distribution of NaI(Tl) scintillation detector with the help of inverse response matrix, provides the desired information.

      • CROSSING TRADITIONAL CULTURAL BOUNDARIES: TRANSCULTURAL EXPERIENCES OF THIRD GENERATION BRITISH SIKH CULTURE

        Amandeep Takhar-Lail,David P. Chitakunye 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

Within marketing and consumer research, scholars have explored cross-cultural issues, and found that most of the studies are sociologically based and assume intra-cultural homogeneity in mentality and logic among people (Fatehi, Kedia & Priestly, 2015). Research has also explored how acculturation in circumstances of hyperfiliation influences cross-cultural consumption (Bradford & Sherry, 2014). The issue of particular importance within this study is the situation of cultural mixing that takes place when migrants and refugees grow their families away from their home country, and how individual and family identity values are renegotiated given ethnic ties that bind the older generation, and the non-ethnic ties in the host country and amongst the future generations. These ethnic and non-ethnic ties influence the acculturation process (Capellini & Yen, 2013) and re-acculturation process. Given increasing migration across many countries, it becomes important to understand the transcultural experiences of both refugees and migrants, as they mix with the host country’s cultural practices. We take the view that transculturality is an illustration of “the complex relationships between and within cultures today: it emphasises not isolation but intermingling, not separation but disjunctive interactions, not homogenization but heterogenization” (Jung, 2010, p.19). The intermingling of multiple cultures, inevitably has implications on consumption decisions, particularly in cases where many children have been born in the diaspora. Whilst previous studies have explored acculturation as a static and linear process (Chrikov, 2009), our study takes the view that cultural identity formation and it’s resulting cultural orientations are an ongoing, fluid, hybrid and iterative project. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to: (1) explore how cultural identity processes are negotiated by third generation UK born British Sikhs. Here, we focus on 3rd generation British Sikhs with the intention of understanding how hybrid identities emerge, and how these impact on consumption decisions; (2) explore the acculturation and re-acculturation patterns of 3rd generation British Sikhs. It is our contention that the online environment offers opportunities to explore identity projects for those born in the diaspora.

Security-Aware Optimized Link Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

( Amandeep Dhir ),( Jyotsna Sengupta ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2009 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.3 No.1

In this technical report, we have examined the basic building blocks of mobile ad-hoc networks. The paper discusses various security requirements of ad-hoc networks, attacks in ad-hoc networks, Security Implementation and Routing Protocols. The primary purpose of the paper is to address the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol in detail, along with the various possible attacks. Finally, algorithms for securing OLSR are proposed, via the addition of digital signatures, as well as more advanced techniques such as cross checking of advertised routing control data with the node`s geographical position. The main aim of this research work is the addition of security features to the existing OLSR protocol. In order to effectively design a secure routing protocol, we present a detailed literature survey of existing protocols, along with the various attacks. Based on the information gathered from the literature survey, a secure routing protocol for OLSR is proposed. The proposed secure routing protocol involves the addition of a digital signature as well as more advanced techniques such as the reuse of previous topology information to validate the actual link state. Thus, the main objective of this work is to provide secure routing and secure data transmission.

SARS-CoV-2 IgG Antibody Seroprevalence in Children from the Amritsar District of Punjab

        Amandeep Kaur,Narinder Singh,Kanwardeep Singh,Shailpreet Kaur Sidhu,Harleen Kaur,Poonam Jain,Manmeet Kaur,Mohan Jairath 대한임상검사과학회 2022 대한임상검사과학회지(KJCLS) Vol.54 No.3

The majority of the children experience milder coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms. Children represent a significant source of community transmission. Children under 18 years of age account for an estimated 4.8% of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections globally. However, no conclusive statements pertaining to the multi-fold aspects of the virus in children could be drawn due to the lower prevalence of pediatric cases. The present study was conducted to identify the indirect impact of SARS-CoV-2 infections on developing herd immunity among children in the age group 3 to 18 years by investigating their antibody levels. In the study, 240 children aged 3∼18 years were recruited by the Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar, India, and quantification of the antibodies was performed at the Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL), Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar, India. Out of the 240 serum samples, 197 (82.08%) showed seropositivity, while 43 (17.92%) were seronegative. When stratified, it was observed that in the age group 3∼6 years, 22.33% of children were found to have anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies while in the age groups 7∼10 years, 11∼14 years, and 15∼18 years, respectively, 37.06%, 30.46%, and 10.15% were seropositive. Although there was seroconversion among children which was useful for predicting the next wave, no differences in seropositivity were observed between adults and children.

      • Design & Performance Analysis of Low Power Reversible Residue Adder

Ankush,Amandeep Singh Bhandari 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.9

Adder circuits play an important role in reversible computation, which is helpful in diverse areas such as Low power CMOS design, quantum computing and nano technology. A reversible gate has equal number of inputs and outputs; so that, there should be one to one mapping between input and output vectors. Therefore, the input vector states can be always uniquely recovered from the output vector states. This paper presents a reversible residue circuit that requires only two reversible gates i.e. Modified TSG gate and Modified Fredkin Gate and consumes Low power. The design provides a significant reduction in the quantum cost of the circuit compared to the existing Residue Adder reversible logic implementation. For coding of design, VHDL language has been used. Xilinx design tool 14.4 and Xilinx project navigator tools are used for synthesis and simulation purpose.

Application of QbD based approach in method development of RP-HPLC for simultaneous estimation of antidiabetic drugs in pharmaceutical dosage form

        Deepika Thakur,Amandeep Kaur,Suraj Sharma 한국약제학회 2017 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.47 No.3

The aim of the proposed study was to develop a novel sensitive and rugged stability indicating HPLC method based on an approach of fractional factorial design (FFD) for the simultaneous of estimation of gliclazide and metformin hydrochloride without prior separation in tablets. Preliminary experiments were conducted to identify the critical attribute factors and using Taguchi screening method to assess risk management method process parameters. Later on FFD was applied to optimize the resolution as response between both drugs in short run time. Sixteen experimental runs were performed from grid search data using design of expert software v.7.0. Furthermore, the optimized method was then validated according to the ICH guidelines. The generated model using FFD for the resolution was found to be highly statistically significant (p\0.05) and after analyzing the optimized zone within the design space, the final chromatographic conditions were selected as mobile phase 60:20:20:0.5, pH 7.5, flow rate 1.0 ml/min and column temperature 25 C using analytical column C18 Nucleosil ODS (250 9 4.6 mm2 i.d, 5 l) at 227 nm of detector wavelength. Validation of the developed method by QbD has manifested the specificity, accuracy and excellent linearity range and correlation values (R2) 0.997 and 0.996 for drugs. From the analysis it was measured that their LOD and LOQ values for the drugs were 0.035, 0.080 lg/ml and 0.40, 0.55 lg/ml. Therefore, a novel sensitive, accurate and stability indicating method was developed with high degree of practical utility of both drugs estimation in pharmaceutical dosage forms.

Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate: Its Determinants and Relationship with Risk Factors Involved in Ischemic Stroke

        ( Kirandeep Kaur ),( Amandeep Kaur ),( Anupam Kaur ) 대한임상검사과학회 2022 대한임상검사과학회지(KJCLS) Vol.54 No.1

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) evaluation is a useful tool for monitoring disease activity in various inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions. ESR is known to be influenced by a multitude of confounding factors. The present study aimed to assess the possible determinants of the ESR and its relationship with various risk factors involved in ischemic stroke. ESR and other hematological and biochemical parameters were investigated in 163 ischemic stroke patients (107 males and 56 females) selected based on imaging techniques including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 16.0 software. Linear regression analysis showed a significant inverse relationship of hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit or packed cell volume (PCV) (P<0.001 for females; P<0.01 for males) with the ESR. It was observed that the red blood cell (RBC) count was not strongly correlated with the ESR (P<0.05 for both males and females). It was also observed that sex significantly affected the variables determining the ESR levels, whereas age had no effect. Gender differences were also observed with respect to Hb, RBC, PCV, mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and ESR. The possible determinants of higher ESR levels in ischemic stroke may be sex, Hb, hematocrit, and RBC count, but the role of other clinical and laboratory parameters cannot be underestimated.
