The aim of this study was to test the susceptibility of mice to Trypanosoma evansi treated with human plasma containing different concentrations of apolipoprotein L-1 (APOL1). For this experiment, a strain of T. evansi and human plasma (plasmas 1, 2, and 3) from 3 adult males clinically healthy were used. In vivo test used 50 mice divided in 5 groups (A to E) with 10 animals in each group. Animals of groups B to E were infected, and then treated with 0.2 ml of human plasma in the following outline: negative control (A), positive control (B), treatment with plasma 1 (C), treatment with plasma 2 (D), and treatment with plasma 3 (E). Mice treated with human plasma showed an increase in longevity of 40.9±0.3 (C), 20±9.0 (D) and 35.6±9.3 (E) days compared to the control group (B) which was 4.3±0.5 days. The number of surviving mice and free of the parasite (blood smear and PCR negative) at the end of the experiment was 90%, 0%, and 60% for groups C, D, and E, respectively. The quantification of APOL1 was performed due to the large difference in the treatments that differed in the source plasma. In plasmas 1, 2, and 3 was detected the concentration of 194, 99, and 115 mg/dl of APOL1, respectively. However, we believe that this difference in the treatment efficiency is related to the level of APOL1 in plasmas.

The creation of the system of work with the gifted in the second half of 20th century. Historical and social preconditions. The place of boarding schools within this system. The principles of education created by the boarding schools founders: experimental, creative attitude to the educational programmes; attraction of every student (no exceptions) to the creative, research work; dependence of the curricula and educational programmes from the trend of the science and society development; democratic level of the interrelations at the boarding school. Moscow physics and mathematics boarding school was created in 1963 on the initiative by the famous scientists in the field of physics and mathematics. At that time in the USSR the tempos of industrial development was very high, especially in the field of military and space exploration. The demand of high qualified specialists in the field of sciences was very high as well. The system of advanced day time education was coming to its end in the field of sciences for the gifted senior school pupils. By 1963 this system had covered the inhabitants of big cities. In those cities, as a rule, there was a sufficient number of high qualified university lectures. So the boarding school established in Moscow, Leningrad, Novosibirsk and Kiev were oriented for the selection of the distant country regions.

This study aimed to measure the levels of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 1 (IL-1), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and nitrite/nitrate (NOx) in serum of dogs experimentally infected with Rangelia vitalii. Twelve female mongrel dogs were divided into 2 groups; group A (uninfected controls) composed by healthy dogs (n=5) and group B consisting of dogs inoculated with R. vitalii (n=7). Animals were monitored by blood smear examinations, which showed intraerythrocytic forms of the parasite on day 5 post-infection (PI). Blood samples were collected through the jugular vein on days 0, 10, and 20 PI to determine the serum levels of IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, and NOx. Cytokines were assessed by ELISA quantitative sandwich technique, and NOx was measured by the modified Griess method. Cytokine levels (IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-1, and IL-6) were increased (P<0.01) in serum of infected animals. Serum levels of NOx were also increased on days 10 PI (P<0.01) and 20 PI (P<0.05) in infected animals. Therefore, the infection with R. vitalii causes an increase in proinflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide content. These alterations may be associated with host immune protection against the parasite.
중앙아메리카 북부삼각지대 이주, 폭력, 마약의 상관관계

이 논문은 중앙아메리카 북부삼각지대에 속하는 과테말라, 온두라스, 엘살바도르 3개 국에서 멕시코를 거쳐 미국에 이르는 이주자들에 관한 연구다. 최근 해당 국가들 뿐 아니라 세계 언론과 이주관련 기관이 우려를 표하는 이유는 이들이 멕시코를 관통하는 과정에서 직면하는 여정의 참혹함 때문이다. ‘죽음의 열차’라 불리는 화물열차의 지붕에 올라탄 채 미국에 이르기까지 짧게는 1000km, 길게는 3000km를 육로로 이동한다. 본 논문은 언급된 이주 현상의 요인을 분석한다. 본 논문의 구성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중아아메리카 북부 삼각지대에서 미국을 향해 가는 이주 증가 현상을 설명한다. 둘째, 배출요인으로 해당 각 국의 폭력 양상을 언급하고 기원을 분석한다. 셋째 해당 지역에 폭력이 극대화되는 요인으로 멕시코 마약 카르텔 조직과의 연계를 분석한다. 이를 통해 중앙아메리카 북부삼각지대 3개 국의 이주 현상이 폭력이라는 자국의 배출요인에서 기인하지만 그 이면에 마약과 관련한 각 국의 이해관계와 내전 시기 전후 미국 이민정책 변화가 배태되어 있음을 밝힌다. This article traces the migratory phenomena caused by the Central Americans. Most of them cross Mexican territory for the purpose to reach the United States of America. To get to the north, most of them hop on the top of a freight train known as “la bestia” or the beast and also known as “tren muerte” or the death train. This article focuses on the reasons for which Central Americans have chosen such a dangerous and abnormal migration these past years. This article consists of three parts. First, it explains the different characteristics that possess these migratory phenomena of the Central Americans who cross Mexico to get to the United States. Second, it analyzes the factors that cause the exodus of the Central American migrants focusing on ongoing violence and its origin. Third, it analyzes the reason of such severe violence in Central America’s Northern Triangle considering the relation between the local crime organizations and the Mexican drug cartels which have lowered the Central American countries due to the “war against drugs” in Mexico since 2006. In conclusion, this article detects the relation between migration, violence and drug in the Northern Triangle of Central America.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro susceptibility of larva and adult forms of Alphitobius diaperinus treated with cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) essential oil on its free form, nanoemulsion (NE), and nanocapsule (NC), aswell as the effect of these treatments on the edaphic fauna using springtails of Folsomia candida (ISO) as a model. The tests with larvae and adults were performed using 1, 5, and 10% of the cinnamon essential oil, and 0.5, 1, and 5% of NE and NC containing 5% of cinnamon essential oil. To validate the test, three controlswere used: only oil diluent (Triton), blank nanoemulsion (without oil) and blank nanocapsule (without oil). Cinnamon essential oil at 5 and 10% caused mortality in larva and adult forms of A. diaperinus. The NE (1%) and NC (5%) causedmortality in both phases of A. diaperinus life cycle. After these promising findings,more studieswere conducted to verify the ecotoxicological effect of the cinnamon oil. For this, a Tropical Artificial Soil (TAS) was usedwith different doses of cinnamon oil, NE and NC, using springtails of F. candida. The use of cinnamon oil, even in very low concentrations (25 mg kg−1), on its original form significantly affected springtails survival and reproduction.However, the nanostructuring process seemed to minimize this toxic effectwithout affecting its insecticidal action. In summary, the pure oil and NE containing cinnamon oil showed effect against A. diaperinus, and may be considered an alternative to control this infestation.
