Litter Decomposition Process in Coffee Agroforestry Systems
Petit-Aldana, Judith,Rahman, Mohammed Mahabubur,Parraguirre-Lezama, Conrado,Infante-Cruz, Angel,Romero-Arenas, Omar Institute of Forest Science 2019 Journal of Forest Science Vol.35 No.2
Decomposition of litter is a function of various interrelated variables, both biotic and abiotic factors. Litter decomposition acts like a natural fertilizer play a prime role in maintaining the productivity and nutrient cycling in agroforestry systems. There are few studies of decomposition carried out in agroforestry systems with coffee; so it is necessary to perform more research work to fill the research gap, which will allow a better understanding of the management of the coffee agroforestry systems. This paper is based on the theoretical and conceptual aspects of leaf litter decomposition in agroforestry systems, emphasizing the combination with coffee cultivation and critically examined the role of the different factors involved in the decomposition. This study made a comparison of different investigations with regards to weight loss, decomposition rates (k), initial chemical composition, and release of the main nutrients. This study suggested that it is necessary to implement studies of decomposition and mineralization, and the microflora and fauna associated with these processes, so that serves as an important tool to develop a model for enabling a description of the short, medium, and long-term dynamics of soil nutrients in coffee agroforestry systems.
A Cost-efficient IPTV Strategy of Replica Placement for 3rd Party Content Service

3rd party content service is a consumer-based wide selection of contents in which IPTV provider believes will enhance the service considerably extending the variety of contents to finally provide a personalized service. Therefore, the combination of 3rd party content services and the IPTV infrastructure creates a good revenue opportunity but they need to be created. IPTV offers to create personalized channels to distribute 3rd party content service. However, the cost of 3rd party content delivery is high when the service is provided from a faraway server. IPTV provider requires an effective strategy of replica placement to minimize the cost without a tradeoff on the performance. We propose a cluster-based strategy of replica placement to find the right balance between cost and performance. The results demonstrate the achievement of an outstanding delivery time and low cost.

This work aimed to develop an edible coating based on Mexican lime ( Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) pectic extract and essentialoil on Haden mango ( Mangifera indica L.) to extend its shelf life. Mango cubes were coated by immersion in a lime pecticextract (1% pectin w/v), lime essential oil (0.05% v/v), and glycerol (0.7% v/v) solution for 2, 5, and 10 min. Subsequently, coated and uncoated (control) test samples were stored for 21 days, and physical–chemical and microbiological analyseswere performed every 3 days. The results showed no signifi cant diff erences for total soluble solids, pH, and fi rmness. On thesixth day, bacterial growth was signifi cantly lower in coated mangos than in the control (log 6.08 ± 0.49 and 7.63 ± 0.20 UFCg −1 , respectively). The application of the edible coating extended the shelf life of minimally processed mangos by 3 days, delaying physical and chemical changes as well as bacterial growth.

Breast adenomyoepitheliomas are composed of a biphasic proliferation of myoepithelial cells around small epithelial-lined spaces. Due to the rarity of adenomyoepitheliomas, the molecular data describing them are limited. Adenomyoepitheliomas are considered to be benign or have low malignant potential, and be prone to local recurrence. Malignant transformation has been associated with homozygous deletion of CDKN2A or somatic mutations in TERT, but remains unexplained in many cases. Here, we describe a case of carcinomatous transformation of both epithelial and myoepithelial cells in an estrogen receptor-negative adenomyoepithelioma caused by amplification of MYC. Break-apart fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed an increase in the MYC gene copy number (3–4 copies/cell in 37%, > 4 copies/cell in 40%). Deregulation of MYC is responsible for uncontrolled proliferation and cellular immortalization in basal-like breast cancers. Our case demonstrates that genomic instability events associated with gene amplification may be involved in the carcinogenesis of malignant adenomyoepitheliomas.

This work reports a radial basis Artificial Neural Network controller that solves the leader-follower andleaderless pose (position and orientation) consensus problems, in the Special Euclidean space of dimension three(SE(3)), in robot networks composed of heterogeneous (kinematically and dynamically different) and uncertainrobots. The proposed approach employs, the singularity-free, unit-quaternions to represent the orientation of theend-effectors in the SE(3). The performance of the proposed controller is illustrated via simulations with a fiveheterogeneous robot network.

Anterior exposure for cervical chordomas remains challenging because of the anatomical complexities and the restoration of the dimensional balance of the atlanto-axial region. In this report, we describe and analyze the transmandibular transoral approach and multilevel spinal reconstruction for upper cervical chordomas. We report two cases of cervical chordomas (C2 and C2–C4) that were treated by marginal en bloc resection with a transmandibular approach and anterior-posterior multilevel spinal reconstruction/fixation. Both patients showed clinical improvement. Postoperative imaging was negative for any residual tumor and revealed adequate reconstruction and stabilization. Marginal resection requires more extensive exposure to allow the surgeon access to the entire pathology, as an inadequate tumor margin is the main factor that negatively affects the prognosis. Anterior and posterior reconstruction provides a rigid reconstruction that protects the medulla and decreases axial pain by properly stabilizing the cervical spine.

<P>Depressed-index channel waveguides with a circular and photonic crystal cladding structures are prepared in a bulk monoclinic Tm:KLu(WO4)(2) crystal by 3D direct femto-second laser writing. The channel waveguide structures are characterized and laser operation is achieved using external mirrors. In the continuous-wave mode, the maximum output power of 46 mW is achieved at 1912 nm corresponding to a slope efficiency of 15.2% and a laser threshold of only 21 mW. Passive Q-switching of a waveguide with a circular cladding is realized using single-walled carbon nanotubes. Stable 7 nJ/50 ns pulses are achieved at a repetition rate of 1.48 MHz. This first demonstration of similar to 2 mu m fs-laser-written waveguide lasers based on monoclinic double tungstates is promising for further lasers of this type doped with Tm3+ and Ho3+ ions.
