Investigating the impact of TPACK development course on pre-service science teachers’ performances

İdris Aktaş,Haluk Özmen 서울대학교 교육연구소 2020 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.21 No.4

The aim of this study is to investigate the Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge (TPACK) development of pre-service science teachers (PSTs) who participated in a TPACK Development Course (TPACK-DC) that consisted of three stages: a training course, lesson plans involving the application of micro-teaching, and school application. This study was carried out with six PSTs selected according to the appropriate sampling method. Semi-structured interviews, lesson plan reports, and video recordings of lesson presentations were used to follow the development of PSTs. At the end of the study, it was found that TPACK-DC contributed to the association of PSTs' Technological Knowledge (TK), Pedagogical Knowledge (PK), and Content Knowledge (CK), which eliminated deficiencies in these areas of knowledge, as well as in the understanding of TPACK. The TPACK-DC also promoted the use of information and communication technology (ICT) tools by PSTs. It helped to develop the knowledge required to choose suitable teaching methods using technology to teach the related subject matter, teaching said content correctly, applying skills to promote active participation by students, proper classroom management, and applying appropriate guidance while teaching science subjects with ICT tools.

( Ezgi Aktaş Karabay ),( Aslı Aksu Çerman ),( Damla Demir ),( Ilknur Kıvanç Altunay ) 대한피부과학회 2019 Annals of Dermatology Vol.31 No.6

Background: Currently, no generally accepted laboratory marker for monitorizing the disease activity and therapy response of psoriasis is known. Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of systemic therapies on C-reactive protein (CRP) and the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in psoriasis. Methods: One hundred patients with psoriasis treated with narrow band ultraviolet B, acitretin, cyclosporine, methotrexate, adalimumab, etanercept, and ustekinumab were prospectively evaluated. At baseline and at week 12, CRP, NLR, and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) were evaluated. Results: A statistically significant decrease was observed in PASI scores, CRP, and NLR values from the baseline to the 12-week visit (p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.001, respectively). The reduction in PASI scores and NLR values was positively correlated (r=0.460, p=0.001). The comparisons between treatment groups revealed that the median decrease in NLR values was statistically higher in the adalimumab group than in the methotrexate group (p=0.007). And the median decrease in PASI scores was significantly higher in the adalimumab group compared with the methotrexate and acitretin therapy group (p=0.007, p=0.042, respectively). Conclusion: In the present study, systemic therapy of psoriasis was demonstrated to decrease the levels of CRP and NLR, which are known to be indicators of systemic inflammation and cardiovascular comorbidities. Buckling behavior of pultruded composite beams with circular cutouts

Mehmet Aktaş,H. Ersen Balcıoğlu 국제구조공학회 2014 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.17 No.4

In this experimental and numerical study, the effect of plate thickness, the diameter of circular cutout, the distance between circular cutouts and rowing orientation angle effect (θ) on the buckling load of E-glass/vinylester pultruded composite beams with single and double circular cutouts, were investigated. The composite beam having 2, 4, and 6 mm thicknesses was produced as [Mat/θ/Mat/θ/Mat] by using pultrusion technique. Seven different fiber angles as 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, and 90° were chosen for investigation of rowing orientation angle. The distances between each circular cutout were selected as 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 mm in the case of double circular cutouts. The diameters of circular cutouts were chosen as 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm to investigate the effect of cutout size. The experimental buckling loads were compared with the results calculated from the numerical analysis. ANSYS 11 commercial software was used for numerical study. A good agreement was obtained between numerical and experimental results.

Pumpkin Seed Oil as a Partial Animal Fat Replacer in Bologna-type Sausages

        Tü,rkan Uzlaş,ır,Nesimi Aktaş,,Kamil Emre Gerç,ekaslan 한국축산식품학회 2020 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.40 No.4

Beef fat was replaced with cold press pumpkin seed oil (PSO; 0%, 5%, 15%, and 20%) in the production of bologna-type sausages. A value of pH, water-holding capacity (WHC), jelly-fat separation, emulsion stability and viscosity values were determined in meat batters. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), color, and textural characteristics (TPA, shear test, penetration test) were determined in end-product at 1, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days of storage at 4℃. The pH values were varied between 6.06 and 6.08. With the increase in the level of PSO in meat batters, there was a significant increase in WHC, jelly-fat separation and viscosity values (p<0.05) while a significant decrease in emulsion stability (p<0.05). TBARS values of sausages were found to be significantly higher than in the control group (p<0.05), and this trend continued during storage. Increasing of PSO level were caused a significant increase in L* and b* values while a decrease in a* value (p<0.05). Hardness, adhesiveness and chewiness values were significantly reduced whereas cohesiveness and resilience values increased (p<0.05). Maximum shear force and work of shear was significantly decreased as the level of PSO increased (p<0.05). Hardness, work of penetration and the resistance during the withdrawal of the probe values (penetration tests) increased significantly with the increase in the level of PSO (p<0.05). These results indicate that PSO has potential to be use as a replacement of animal-based fats in the production of bologna-type sausages.

      • Optimization of Aniline Biopolymerization Reaction Conditions By Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

        Adnan Aldemir,Emre Birhanlı,Nahit Aktaş,Özfer Yeşilada 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.6 No.6

Response Surface Methodology(RSM) was applied to enzymatic polymerization of aniline, which was conducted in a closed system containing sodium acetate buffer and presence of poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate)(SPS) polyelectrolyte as a template with laccase enzyme to produce water soluble polyaniline. Laccase enzyme used as catalyst was isolated from Trametes versicolor (ATCC 200801). The enzymatic polymerization rate of aniline based on measurements of initial dissolved oxygen (DO) consumption rate in the closed system, was optimized by the application of RSM. The independent variables, which had been found the most effective variables on the initial DO consumption rate by screening experiments, were determined as monomer concentration, medium temperature and medium pH. A quadratic model was developed through RSM in terms of related independent variables to describe the initial DO consumption rate as the response. Based on statistic analysis, optimum reaction conditions for the maximum initial DO consumption rate determined 42.50 mM, 39.34 °C and 5.45 as monomer concentration, medium temperature and medium pH, respectively.

Misoprostol alleviates paclitaxel-induced liver damage through its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects

        Gür Fatih Mehmet,Aktaş İbrahim,Bilgiç Sedat,Pekince Merve 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2022 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.18 No.3

Backgrounds Anticancer drugs may damage non-target cells and tissues. One of the biggest reasons for changing or stopping chemotherapy regimens is these adverse effects. Objective This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic and protective efficacy of misoprostol (MP) against the harmful effects of paclitaxel (PAX), an anticancer drug, on normal liver tissue. Results Biochemical examinations revealed that activities of serum aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and levels of triglyceride, and cholesterol and levels of tissue malondialdehyde increased significantly in the PAX group compared to the control group, and glutathione level decreased. The histological structure of the liver tissue of the control group rats was normal. Histopathological changes, such as focal microvesicular steatosis, sinusoidal dilatation, mononuclear cell infiltration, Councilman bodies, and an increase in apoptosis, were also observed in PAX group. The histopathological changes observed in the PAX group were greatly improved in the PAX + MP group. Conclusion When the obtained data were evaluated, it was concluded that the combined use of PAX with MP could reduce the cytotoxic effects of PAX on normal liver tissue, allowing cancer treatment to be continued uninterrupted and effectively.

Reliability of Corroded Steel Members Subjected to Elastic Lateral Torsional Buckling

Uzun Ertugrul Turker,Engin Aktaş 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.4

Structural steel members are subjected to corrosion due to environmental condition. As a result, there is decreasing in the cross-section properties of the member. This causes diff erent stability problems and reduction in the load carrying capacity of members. Then, the probability of failure, P f increases due to corrosion. The need arises to determine expected level of safety for such members and systems. Besides, reliability of the steel structure is also eff ected by the structural stability problems that result decreasing in the resistance. Lateral torsional buckling is one of the most encountered problems in steel members and aff ected by the critical moment which is a function of lateral and torsional stiff ness. Critical moment depends on the material properties, boundary conditions, unbraced length, load pattern, and the member’s cross section. Under the corrosion, it is inevitable to observe changing in some of properties. In this study, a damage model to determine the reliability of a corroded I-shape steel member under linear moment gradient is developed considering corrosion exposure time. Uniform and varying thickness loss models are considered to show the corrosion eff ect. Infl uence of environmental condition on the load carrying capacity of the members is considered and their eff ects on member design is evaluated. As a result, it is concluded that load carrying capacity of steel members degrades and safety of them adversely eff ected. With presented formulas, it is ensured that the load carrying capacity and reliability indices of the steel members can be calculated practically under the examined situations

Mode-I fracture toughness of carbon fiber/epoxy composites interleaved by aramid nonwoven veils

Bertan Beylergil,Metin Tanoğlu,Engin Aktaş 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.31 No.2

In this study, carbon fiber/epoxy (CF/EP) composites were interleaved with aramid nonwoven veils with an areal weight density of 8.5 g/m2 to improve their Mode-I fracture toughness. The control and aramid interleaved CF/EP composite laminates were manufactured by VARTM in a [0]4 configuration. Tensile, three-point bending, compression, interlaminar shear, Charpy impact and Mode-I (DCB) fracture toughness values were determined to evaluate the effects of aramid nonwoven fabrics on the mechanical performance of the CF/EP composites. Thermomechanical behavior of the specimens was investigated by Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). The results showed that the propagation Mode-I fracture toughness values of CF/EP composites can be significantly improved (by about 72%) using aramid nonwoven fabrics. It was found that the main extrinsic toughening mechanism is aramid microfiber bridging acting behind the crack-tip. The incorporation of these nonwovens also increased interlaminar shear and Charpy impact strength by 10 and 16.5%, respectively. Moreover, it was revealed that the damping ability of the composites increased with the incorporation of aramid nonwoven fabrics in the interlaminar region of composites. On the other hand, they caused a reduction in in-plane mechanical properties due to the reduced carbon fiber volume fraction, increased thickness and void formation in the composites.
