Remarks on metallic maps between metallic Riemannian manifolds and constancy of certain maps
Mehmet Akif Akyol 호남수학회 2019 호남수학학술지 Vol.41 No.2
In this paper, we introduce metallic maps between metallic Riemannian manifolds, provide an example and obtain certain conditions for such maps to be totally geodesic. We also give a sufficient condition for a map between metallic Riemannian manifolds to be harmonic map. Then we investigate the constancy of certain maps between metallic Riemannian manifolds and various manifolds by imposing the holomorphic-like condition. Moreover, we check the reverse case and show that some such maps are constant if there is a condition for this.
Peripheral Signatures of Psychiatric Disorders: MicroRNAs
Mehmet Akif Camkurt,Serkan Güneş,Salih Coşkun,Ebru Fındılklı 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.4
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are 22 nucleotide long RNA transcripts, their synthesis starts in nucleus and continues in cytoplasm. As being critical for post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression they have been investigated in psychiatric disorders. There are numerous studies performed in peripheral tissues for psychiatric disorders. Here in this article, we aimed to review some common miRNAs denoted significant in at least two studies and their relevance to psychiatric research. We focused on miR-320, miR-106, miR-34, miR-223, miR-107, and miR-134.

Objective: The prevalence of schizophrenia is 1%, and it is a debilitating disorder that often results in a shortened lifespan. Peripheral blood samples are good candidates to investigate because they can be easily drawn, and they are widely studied in psychiatric disorders. MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNA transcripts. They regulate the expression of genes by binding to the 3’-untranslated region (UTR) of mRNAs and pointing them to degrade. In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression of miR-9-5p, miR-29a-3p, miR-106-5p, miR-106b-5p, miR-107, miR-125a-3p, and miR-125b-3p in schizophrenia patients and healthy controls. Methods: We collected blood samples from 16 patients with schizophrenia and 16 healthy controls. MicroRNAs were measured with reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Results: Schizophrenia patients showed statistically significant upregulation of five microRNAs: miR9-5p (p=0.002), miR29a-3p (p<0.001), miR106b-5p (p=0.002), miR125a-3p (p<0.001), and miR125b-3p (p=0.018). Conclusion: Our results increased the value of the miR106 and miR29 families as potentially and consistently dysregulated in psychiatric disorders. Our results should be considered preliminary, and they need confirmation in future studies with larger sample sizes.

Venlafaxine is a serotonergic and noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor which is used for the treatment of depression. We report a case of galactorrhea in a patient with major depressive disorder after starting treatment with venlafaxine. In particular, we discuss the course of hyper and normoprolactinemic galactorrhea. We managed this side effect initially by dose reduction and further by switching to essitalopram. Physicians should be aware of endocrinologic side effects such as galactorrhea during the serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor treatment.
Aging Studies on Conducting Polypyrrole
Kaynak, Akif The Korean Fiber Society 2001 Fibers and polymers Vol.2 No.4
Change of tensile properties, electrical conductivity and microwave shielding of electrochemically synthesized polypyrrole films with time are presented. Highly doped films had good electrical stability, retaining high microwave reflectivity throughout the aging period. Lightly doped films were less stable and partially reflective and absorptive of microwaves. FT-IR spectral observations revealed a progressive increase in intensity of an unsaturated conjugated carbonyl peak, which was not observed in the highly doped films, suggesting that the concentration of the dopant had an influence on mechanism of degradation of conductivity.

To determine the dynamic forces acting on vehicle components a vehicle-structure-road interaction is considered. Coupled interaction was modelled using a flexible bridge-like thin beam structure with four and six Degree of freedom (DOF) half car models. In addition to the flexible structure, the road conditions were added to the model as random and non-random surface irregularities. A coupled equation of motion of the whole system was derived using Lagrange equations, and converted to a first-order state-space equation and then solved using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. Besides the dynamic forces, the effects of the vehicle speed, bridge flexibility, tire stiffness, random or non-random road irregularities on the passenger comfort are widely investigated. The results obtained were compared by several early VBI (Vehicle-bridge-interaction) studies in the literature and proved accurate with a 5 % difference.
SHARP INEQUALITIES INVOLVING THE CHEN-RICCI INEQUALITY FOR SLANT RIEMANNIAN SUBMERSIONS
Mehmet Akif Akyol,Nergiz (Onen) Poyraz 대한수학회 2023 대한수학회보 Vol.60 No.5
Main objective of the present paper is to establish Chen inequalities for slant Riemannian submersions in contact geometry. In this manner, we give some examples for slant Riemannian submersions and also investigate some curvature relations between the total space, the base space and fibers. Moreover, we establish Chen-Ricci inequalities on the vertical and the horizontal distributions for slant Riemannian submersions from Sasakian space forms.
Optimum bracing design under wind load by using topology optimization
M. Akif Kutuk,Ibrahim Gov 한국풍공학회 2014 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.18 No.5
Seismic and wind load performances of buildings are commonly improved by using bracing systems. In practice, standard bracing systems, such as X, Y, V, and K types are used. To determine the appropriate bracing type, the designer uses trial & error method among the standard bracings to obtain better results. However, using topology optimization yields more efficient bracing systems or new bracing can be developed depending on building and loading types. Determination of optimum bracing type for minimum deformation on a building under the effect of wind load is given in this study. A new bracing system is developed by using topology optimization. Element removal method is used to determine and remove the comparatively inefficient materials. Optimized bracing is compared with proposed bracing types available in the related literature. Maximum deformation value of building is used as performance indicator to compare effectiveness of different bracings to resist wind loads. The proposed bracing, yielded 99%, deformation reduction compared to the unbraced building.

Objective: The umbilical cord consists of two arteries and one vein and it functions in the transport between the maternal and fetal circulation. Biochemical analysis of fetal cord blood (FCB) during delivery could be beneficial in terms of understanding the fetal environment. In this study, we aimed to investigate oxidative parameters like malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) levels in FCB during delivery. Methods: We collected FCB samples during caesarean section. Our study included 33 depressed mothers and 37 healthy controls. We investigated MDA, SOD, and CAT levels in FCB samples. Results: We found no significant difference between groups in terms of MDA (p=0.625), SOD (p=0.940), and CAT (p=0.413) levels. Conclusion: Our study reveals probable protective effects of the placenta from oxidative stress. Future studies should include larger samples.
