Hematuria Secondary to an Internal Iliac Artery Aneurysm
Aikaterini Makatsori,Nikolaos E. Stavropoulos 대한비뇨의학회 2010 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.51 No.8
We report a case of macroscopic hematuria secondary to an aneurysm of the internal iliac artery. An 84-year-old male presented to our department with a 12-hour history of painless gross hematuria. Cystoscopy showed decreased expansion suggesting compression from outside the bladder. At the point of compression, increased vascularization was noted in the bladder mucosa without evidence of active bleeding. No trace of blood was identified coming from the ureteric orifices, the bladder neck, or the prostate. There was no evidence of intra-vesicular masses or other inflammatory changes. The abdominal computed tomography scan revealed left-sided hydronephrosis and an abdominal aortic aneurysm involving the aortic bifurcation and both internal iliac arteries. There was no evidence of rupture. An aneurysm of the internal iliac artery is a rare cause of macroscopic hematuria that can be fatal. Awareness of this as a possible cause of hematuria may assist in immediate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Investigation and analysis of accidents are critical elements of safety management. The over-ridingpurpose of an organization in carrying out an accident investigation is to prevent similar accidents, aswell as seek a general improvement in the management of health and safety. Hundreds of workers havesuffered injuries while installing, maintaining, or servicing machinery and equipment due to sudden reenergizationof power lines. This study presents and analyzes two electrical accidents (1 fatal injury and1 serious injury) that occurred because the power supply was reconnected inadvertently or by mistake.

This study integrates the cognitive appraisal theory and script theory, highlighting the bridging role played by recollective memory. The relationships between visitors’ appraisals, emotions, recollection, storytelling and repurchase intention as they relate to the luxury cruise trip experience were assessed. We developed 14 theoretical hypotheses from a literature review. We then tested these hypotheses using data collected from 300 luxury cruise passengers. To the best of our knowledge this study is the first to incorporate the cognitive appraisal approach into script theory in a luxury tourism setting. Our work discloses that these two theories complement each other and recollection is the tie between them. This research reinforces the theoretical literature on cognitive appraisal and script theory. Moreover, the luxury cruise sector is under pressure due to fierce competition and as a result there is a need to acknowledge the crucial determinants of tourists’ emotional reactions. An understanding of tourists’ emotional experiences, and their antecedents and consequences will aid in the formulation of strategic marketing, segmentation, and communication efforts. The results of our study confirm that different emotional reactions can be elicited due to the power of four appraisal dimensions: appetitive goal congruence, certainty, novelty and agency. The findings not only enrich the cognitive appraisal framework and script theory literature but also provide guidance for managerial and marketing strategies of cruise industry practitioners.

Hemoperfusion has been considered a promising adjuvant treatment for chronic diseases and some acute states when specific removal of pathogenic factors from the bloodstream is desired. Over the years, advances in adsorption materials (e.g., new synthetic polymers, biomimetic coating, and matrixes with novel structures) have renewed scientific interest and expanded the potential therapeutic indications of hemoperfusion. There is growing evidence to suggest a prominent place for hemoperfusion as an adjuvant treatment in the setting of sepsis or severe coronavirus disease 2019 and as a therapeutic option for chronic complications associated with accumulated uremic toxins in patients with end-stage renal disease. This literature review will describe the principles, therapeutic perspectives, and the emerging role of hemoperfusion as a complementary therapy for patients with kidney disease.

We aimed to extend the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework. Atmospherics and staff service were evaluated as stimulus impacting attendees’ social/self concept and memory (organism), and further leading to behavioral intention (response). Memory is not only an effective predictor of behavioral intention but also mediates the social/self concept value and behaviors.
Characteristic Phenolic Composition of the Greek Variety Mavrokountoura Grape and Wine
Aikaterini-Evangelia Mylona,Andreas Bimpilas,Dimitrios Tsimogiannis,Vassiliki Oreopoulou 한국식품과학회 2013 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.22 No.6
Mavrokountoura, a clone of the Mandilaria grapecultivar, was studied for the first time. The morphologicalcharacteristics and composition of berries were determined,as well as total phenols and tannins in skins, flesh, andseeds. The skin anthocyanins were identified using HPLCMS/MS and quantified using HPLC-DAD. Two mainanthocyanins were identified as malvidin-3-O-glucosideand malvidin-3-O-(6''-p-coumaroyl)-glucoside. One minoranthocyanin was identified as malvidin-3-O-(6''-acetyl)-glucoside. Glycosides of delphinidin, petunidin, andpeonidin were detected in traces. Young Mavrokountourawine was also studied. Extraction of total phenols from thegrape to the young wine amounted to 32%, composingmainly non-tannic phenols. The individual anthocyanincomponents exhibited different extractability values fromthe skin to wine, ranging between 10-94%.
THE SOCIAL MEDIA SCAPE: AN INTEGRATIVE FRAMEWORK AND MEASUREMENT SCALE
Aikaterini Manthiou,Kafia Ayadi,Volker Kuppelwieser 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
Recent evidence suggests a dramatic increase of use on the social media environment in the tourism and hospitality industry. This study aims to develop a measurement scale for the social media environment also called “social media scape”. The study will offer insights regarding the consequences of social media scape as well. Empirical data will be collected from 3 different countries and 3 studies will be conducted. In addition, the findings of this study will suggest how social media scape shapes key consumer behavior outcomes. Finally, this study will discuss the managerial implications for marketing and positioning strategy in the social media environment. In particular, the results of the study will indicate how the social media scape should be developed thus helping brands to better position themselves in this social media world and what consumers’ needs can satisfy such as functional, hedonic, social, and psychological. In addition, for global marketers who want to develop international networks, ethnicities are a significant impact factor on users’ behaviors. As such, this information will be useful since our study will include 3 different countries
The Ethical and Unethical Dimensions of Marketing
Aikaterini Vassilikopoulou,George Siomkos,Chryssoula Rouvaki KINFORMS 2008 Management Review Vol.3 No.1
Marketing is a discipline that provokes much debate. In fact, it has been accused of being used for unethical purposes. Opponents of marketing make the accusation that marketing encourages materialism, increases the final price of the product, allures consumers into buying products they might not really need, etc. Other research studies have argued that the very core of marketing is in contrast with the doubt and criticism that is expressed by its opponents because customer satisfaction is marketing’s ultimate goal. This paper critically discusses the opposition’s and supporters’ views of marketing as an unethical science.

Background/Aims: Abdominal aortic calcium (AAC) deposition has been suggested as a marker of early atherosclerosis. There is no published data on the evaluation of AAC in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).Methods: AAC was quantified by computed tomography or enterography scans performed in 98 IBD patients and 1:1 age and sex matched controls. AAC deposition was correlated with IBD characteristics, disease activity or severity parameters, laboratory tests and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Results: Moderate-severe grade of AAC was found in 35.7% of IBD patients compared to 30.6% of controls (P= 0.544). IBD with CVD and ulcerative colitis patients had significantly higher rates of more severe atherosclerotic lesions (P= 0.001 and P= 0.01, respectively). AAC deposition was similarly distributed in age groups ( < 45, 45–64, and ≥ 65 years) among patients and controls. Multivariate analysis after excluding CVD risk confounders for non-CVD patients found extensive disease (P= 0.019) and lifetime steroids (P= 0.04) as independent risk factors for AAC. Anti-tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) use was negatively associated with AAC deposition in non-CVD IBD patients (odds ratio, 0.023; 95% confidence interval, 0.001–0.594; P= 0.023).Conclusions: More than one-third of IBD patients have moderate to severe AAC. Better control of inflammation with anti-TNF-α agents seems to protect IBD patients from ACC deposition and subsequent atherosclerosis.
