      • Heavy baryonic Λb→Λη(′) decays

        Ahmady, M.R.,Kim, C.S.,Oh, Sechul,Yu, Chaehyun Elsevier 2004 Physics letters: B Vol.598 No.3

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We calculate the branching ratios of the hadronic Λb decays to <I>η</I> and η′ in the factorization approximation where the form factors are estimated via QCD sum rules and the pole model. Our results indicate that, contrary to B→Kη(′) decays, the branching ratios for Λb→Λη and Λb→Λη′ are more or less the same in the hadronic Λb transitions. We find that the anomaly contribution is crucial in Λb→Λη(′) decays. We obtain the branching ratio of Λb→Λη(′) to be 11.47(11.33)×10−6 in QCD sum rules, and 2.95(3.24)×10−6 in the pole model. We also consider the contribution of the charm content in the η′ production in Λb→Λ transition.</P>

Bioactive Compounds and Chemical Biology : Fabrication of Biogenic Antimicrobial Silver Nanoparticles by Streptomyces aegyptia NEAE 102 as Eco-Friendly Nanofactory

        ( Noura El-ahmady El-naggar ),( Nayera A M Abdelwahed ),( Osama M M Darwesh ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2014 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.24 No.4

The current research was focused on the extracellular biosynthesis of bactericidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using cell-free supernatant of a local isolate previously identified as a novel Streptomyces aegyptia NEAE 102. The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by Streptomyces aegyptia NEAE 102 was quite fast and required far less time than previously published strains. The produced particles showed a single surface plasmon resonance peak at 400 nm by UV.Vis spectroscopy, which confirmed the presence of AgNPs. Response surface methodology was chosen to evaluate the effects of four process variables (AgNO3 concentration, incubation period, pH levels, and inoculum size) on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by Streptomyces aegyptia NEAE 102. Statistical analysis of the results showed that the linear and quadratic effects of incubation period, initial pH, and inoculum size had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles by Streptomyces aegyptia NEAE 102. The maximum silver nanoparticles biosynthesis (2.5 OD, at 400 nm ) was achieved in runs number 5 and 14 under the conditions of 1 mM AgNO3 (1-1.5% (v/v)), incubation period (72-96 h), initial pH (9-10), and inoculum size (2-4% (v/v)). An overall 4-fold increase in AgNPs biosynthesis was obtained as compared with that of unoptimized conditions. The biosynthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized using UV-VIS spectrophotometer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis, in addition to antimicrobial properties. The biosynthesized AgNPs significantly inhibited the growth of medically important pathogenic gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and yeast (Candida albicans).

Organic Acids Associated with Saccharification of Cellulosic Wastes During Solid-State Fermentation

        Noura El-Ahmady El-Naggar,Mohammed Saad El-Hersh 한국미생물학회 2011 The journal of microbiology Vol.49 No.1

Saccharification of five cellulosic wastes, i.e. rice husks, wheat bran, corn cobs, wheat straw and rice straw by three cellulytic fungi, i.e. Aspergillus glaucus MN1, Aspergillus oryzae MN2 and Penicillium purpurogenum MN3, during solid-state fermentation (SSF) was laboratory studied. Rice husks, wheat bran, and corn cobs were selected as inducers of glucose production in the tested fungi. An incubation interval of 10 days was optimal for glucose production. Maximal activities of the cellulases FP-ase, CMC-ase, and β-glucosidase were detected during SSF of rice husks by P. purpurogenum; however, α-amylase activity (7.2 U/g) was comparatively reduced. Meanwhile, the productivities of FP-ase, CMC-ase, and β-glucosidase were high during SSF of rice husks by A. glaucus; however, they decreased during SSF of corn cobs by P. purpurogenum. Addition of rock phosphate (RP) (75 mg P_2O_5) decreased the pH of SSF media. (NH_4)_2SO_4 was found to be less inducer of cellulytic enzymes, during SSF of rice husks by A. glaucus or A. oryzae; it also induced phytase production and solubilization of RP. The organic acids associated with saccharification of the wastes studied have also been investigated. The highest concentration of levulinic acid was detected (46.15 mg/g)during SSF of corn cobs by P. purpurogenum. Likewise, oxalic acid concentration was 43.20 mg/g during SSF of rice husks by P. purpurogenum.

Application of Statistical Experimental Design for Optimization of Silver Nanoparticles Biosynthesis by a Nanofactory Streptomyces viridochromogenes

        Noura El-Ahmady El-Naggar,Nayera A.M. Abdelwahed 한국미생물학회 2014 The journal of microbiology Vol.52 No.1

Central composite design was chosen to determine the combined effects of four process variables (AgNO3 concentration, incubation period, pH level and inoculum size) on the extracellular biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by Streptomyces viridochromogenes. Statistical analysis of the results showed that incubation period, initial pH level and inoculum size had significant effects (P 0.05) on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles at their individual level. The maximum biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles was achieved at a concentration of 0.5% (v/v) of 1 mM AgNO3, incubation period of 96 h, initial pH of 9 and inoculum size of 2% (v/v). After optimization, the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles was improved by approximately 5-fold as compared to that of the unoptimized conditions. The synthetic process of silver nanoparticle generation using the reduction of aqueous Ag+ ion by the culture supernatants of S. viridochromogenes was quite fast, and silver nanoparticles were formed immediately by the addition of AgNO3 solution (1 mM) to the cell-free supernatant. Initial characterization of silver nanoparticles was performed by visual observation of color change from yellow to intense brown color. UV-visible spectrophotometry for measuring surface plasmon resonance showed a single absorption peak at 400 nm, which confirmed the presence of silver nanoparticles. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis provided evidence for proteins as possible reducing and capping agents for stabilizing the nanoparticles. Transmission Electron Microscopy revealed the extracellular formation of spherical silver nanoparticles in the size range of 2.15–7.27 nm. Compared to the cell-free supernatant, the biosynthesized AgNPs revealed superior antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacterial strains and Candida albicans.

Seismic Fragility Assessment of SMRFs with Drilled Flange Connections using Ground Motion Variability

Mehdi Maleki,Roohollah Ahmady Jazany,Mohammad Soheil Ghobadi 대한토목학회 2019 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.23 No.4

Seismic behavior of Steel Moment Resisting Frames (SMRFs) with Drilled Flange (DF) connections as well as Reduced Beam Section (RBS) and Welded Unreinforced Flange-Bolted web (WUF-B) as a Pre-Northridge connection have been compared analytically considering Far-field earthquake-induced. The backbone curves of RBS and WUF connections are extracted from available studies and the backbone curve of DF connection is presented in this study in order to simulating the buildings models. DF, RBS, WUF connections and Panel Zone (PZ) are numerically modeled based on the proposed models provided by the prior researches and these models are applied to analyze low- and high-rise buildings designed in accordance with the relevant standards. Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) process is utilized to evaluate the effects of DF connection on structural seismic response of SMRFs. Afterwards, the structures’ performance in different response levels is probabilistically assessed by means of IDA and fragility curves. The results show that the seismic demand of SMRFs with DF and RBS connections are so similar, specifically for low-rise buildings. Likewise, SMRFs with DF connection provide up to 43% higher seismic demand in high-rise buildings compared to RBS connection. Eventually, DF connection can be used as an authentic option in SMRFs.

Probabilistic Seismic Assessment of SMFs with Drilled Flange Connections Subjected to Near-Field Ground Motions

        M. Maleki,R. Ahmady Jazany,M. S. Ghobadi 한국강구조학회 2019 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.19 No.1

This paper aims to probabilistically evaluate the infl uences of drilled fl ange (DF) connection on seismic performance of steel moment frames (SMFs) incorporating near-fi eld ground motions. Meanwhile, reduce beam section (RBS) connection as a prequalifi ed connection and pre-Northridge welded unreinforced fl ange (WUF) connection were compared with DF connection. To model accurately the components of RBS and WUF connections and panel zone in SMFs, the proposed models of former researches were utilized. However, to simulate all DF connections the hinge properties were extracted from experimentally validated fi nite element models. Two sample low- and high-rise buildings were designed based on valid codes and simulated by OpenSees platform in order to study the nonlinear performance of aforementioned connections. Incremental dynamic analysis process was carried out to assess comprehensively the eff ect of DF connection on structural response and probability of structural instability for various intensity of seismic loads. Then, the seismic risk for Collapse Prevention and immediate occupancy limit states were calculated by fragility analysis. Also, seismic demand hazard curves for the sample buildings were extracted. The results of this study indicated that DF connections provided acceptable seismic performance as well as RBS connections in low- and high-rise buildings.
