        Effect of Feed Additives in Growing Lambs Fed Diets Containing Wet Brewers Grains

        The study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effects of feed additives on ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility and performance of lambs fed diets containing 60% wet brewers grains (WBG). In Experiment 1, two simultaneous trials were conducted. Fifty intact ($20.2{\pm}0.8kg\;BW$) lambs were used in a feedlot trial and 10 (rumen cannulated; $32{\pm}1kg\;BW$) in a digestion trial. The pH, volatile fatty acids (VFA) and ammonia-N in lambs were also estimated. Lambs were randomly assigned to one of five diets: i) without additives (Con), ii) with 1% bicarbonate (Bic), iii) with 1% bentonite (Ben), iv) with 33 mg/kg monensin (Mon) and v) with 200 mg/kg fibrolityc enzymes (Enz). In Experiment 2, 120 RambouilletPelibuey intact male lambs ($19.5{\pm}1.5kg\;BW$) were used in a feedlot trial and randomly assigned to four diets: i) without additives (control), ii) with 1% Bic, iii) with 33 mg/kg Mon and iv) with 1% Bic and 33 mg/kg Mon. In Experiment 1, lambs fed diets containing Bic or Mon had significantly higher final weight, DMI, ADG than other lambs. However, apparent DM, OM, CP, NDF and ADF digestibilities and ruminal individual VFA content were similar (p>0.05) among treatments. Conversely, treatmentcollection period interaction was significant for ruminal pH and NH3. In Experiment 2, lambs fed diets containing a Bic and Mon combination had significantly higher final weight, DMI and ADG. It is concluded lambs fed Bic or Mon or Bic and Mon combination had better performance characteristics than lambs on Ben or Enz.

        A Brief Description of Culture Shock Among Latin American Nationals in South Korea

        This document aims to identify the main causes of culture shock experienced by Latin American nationals who visited South Korea. A brief literature review on the subject of culture shock and cultural adaptation is included. The revised Socio-Cultural Adjustment Scale (SCAS-R) developed by Wilson (2013) was turned into an online survey and used as data gathering instrument. (N=64) Sixty-four respondents answered the 21-question survey sent through a specific group in a major social networking site. Four major categories were surveyed; social interactions, language barriers, religion and traditions and personal issues. According to the data gathered in the sample, and some findings discussed in the theory reviewed, the main causes of culture shock among Latin American nationals who visited South Korea were related to self-reported host country language abilities: understanding and speaking Korean language (M=2.36); reading and writing Korean language (M=2.28); varying the rate of speaking in a culturally appropriate manner (M=2.31).

        이 글의 목적은 한국을 방문한 남미 출신자들이 경험하는 문화충격의 주요 원인을 살펴보는 데 있다. 또한 이 글은 문화충격과 문화적응에 관한 간략한 리뷰를 포함하고 있다. 윌슨(2013)에 의해 재구성된 사회-문화 적응 척도(SCAS-R)를 활용하여 온라인 조사를 하였고, 이를 통해 데이터를 수집하였다. 21문항으로 구성된 설문지는 주요 사회관계망에 속한 특정집단에게 보내져 이에 64명이 답하였다. 네 가지 범주, 즉 사회적 상호작용, 언어 장벽, 종교와 전통, 개인적 이슈에 대한 조사가 이루어졌다. 자료와 몇 가지 이론적 검토에 따르면 한국 방문 라틴 아메리카 출신자가 겪는 문화 충격의 주요 원인은 자기가 진단한 한국어 능력과 연계되어 있다. 구어 이해는 평균 2.36, 읽기와 쓰기는 평균 2.38, 문화적으로 적절한 언어 구사능력의 평균 점수는 2.31이다.         Reduction of product platform complexity by vectorial Euclidean algorithm

        In traditional machine, equipment and devices design, technical solutions are practically independent, thus increasing designs cost and complexity. Overcoming this situation has been tackled just using designer’s experience. In this work, a product platform complexity reduction is presented based on a matrix representation of technical solutions versus product properties. This matrix represents the product platform. From this matrix, the Euclidean distances among technical solutions are obtained. Thus, the vectorial distances among technical solutions are identified in a new matrix of order of the number of technical solutions identified. This new matrix can be reorganized in groups with a hierarchical structure, in such a way that modular design of products is now more tractable. As a result of this procedure, the minimum vector distances are found thus being possible to identify the best technical solutions for the design problem raised. Application of these concepts is shown with two examples.

        Metabolic and Hemodynamic Results and Early Complications in Simultaneous Bilateral versus Unilateral Hip Arthroscopy

        Background: To compare the hemodynamic parameters—electrolyte concentration, D-dimer level, creatine phosphokinase level—and the incidence of early complications of simultaneous bilateral versus unilateral hip arthroscopy. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on patients (> 18 years of age) undergoing unilateral or bilateral hip arthroscopy under the same anesthetic between 2013 and 2015. Patients were followed up for 30 days after surgery. In all cases, data were collected before, during, and after the surgical procedure. Results: One hundred cases of hip arthroscopy (51 unilateral and 49 bilateral) were included in this study. There was a greater variation in systolic blood pressure and heart rate in the unilateral group. The sodium levels were higher in the bilateral group with an adjusted mean difference of 5.31 mmol/L (p < 0.001). During the first 24 hours after the procedure, the proportion of patients with an altered D-dimer of > 500 ng/mL was 85.7% in the bilateral group and 56.9% in the unilateral group. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the groups (bilateral, 8.2%; unilateral, 9.8%; crude odds ratio, 0.83; 95% confidence interval, 0.24 to 2.92; p = 0.526). Conclusions: The variations of hemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy remained within normal ranges. The findings of this study suggest that bilateral hip arthroscopy be selected according to the patient’s condition, considering that the risk of complications and metabolic alterations in bilateral hip arthroplasty are similar to those in unilateral arthroscopy.

        <P>Engraftment and maintenance of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC) depend on their ability to respond to extracellular signals from the bone marrow microenvironment, but the critical intracellular pathways integrating these signals remain poorly understood. Furthermore, recent studies provide contradictory evidence of the roles of vascular versus osteoblastic niche components in HSPC function. To address these questions and to dissect the complex upstream regulation of Rac GTPase activity in HSPC, we investigated the role of the hematopoietic-specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor Vav1 in HSPC localization and engraftment. Using intravital microscopy assays, we demonstrated that transplanted Vav1(-/-) HSPC showed impaired early localization near nestin(+) perivascular mesenchymal stem cells; only 6.25% of Vav1(-/-) HSPC versus 45.8% of wild-type HSPC were located less than 30 μm from a nestin(+) cell. Abnormal perivascular localization correlated with decreased retention of Vav1(-/-) HSPC in the bone marrow (44-60% reduction at 48 h posttransplant, compared with wild-type) and a very significant defect in short- and long-term engraftment in competitive and noncompetitive repopulation assays (<1.5% chimerism of Vav1(-/-) cells vs. 53-63% for wild-type cells). The engraftment defect of Vav1(-/-) HSPC was not related to alterations in proliferation, survival, or integrin-mediated adhesion. However, Vav1(-/-) HSPC showed impaired responses to SDF1α, including reduced in vitro migration in time-lapse microscopy assays, decreased circadian and pharmacologically induced mobilization in vivo, and dysregulated Rac/Cdc42 activation. These data suggest that Vav1 activity is required specifically for SDF1α-dependent perivascular homing of HSPC and suggest a critical role for this localization in retention and subsequent engraftment.</P>

        Relationship between Spinopelvic Parameters and Hip Function in Patients with Femoroacetabular Impingement at Diagnosis: A Cross-Sectional Study

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine correlation between the spinopelvic parameters in sitting and standing positions (sacral slope [SS], lumbar lordosis [LL], spinopelvic tilt [SPT], pelvic incidence [PI], and pelvic femoral angle [PFA]), with hip function assessed using the modified Harris hip scores (mHHs) in patients with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) at diagnosis. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of 52 patients diagnosed with symptomatic FAI was conducted. Evaluation of the spinopelvic complex in terms of SS, LL, SPT, PI and PFA was performed using lateral radiographs of the pelvis and lumbosacral spine in standing and sitting positions. Assessment of hip function at diagnosis was performed using the mHHs. Calculation of spinopelvic mobility was based on the difference (Δ) between measurements performed in standing and sitting position. Results: The median time of pain evolution was 11 months (interquartile range [IQR], 5-24 months) with a median mHHs of 66.0 points (IQR, 46.0-73.0) at diagnosis. The mean change of LL, SS, SPT, and PFA was 20.9±11.2。, 14.2±8.6。, 15.5±9.0。, and 70.7±9.5。, respectively. No statistically significant correlation was observed between spinopelvic parameters and the mHHs (P>0.05). Conclusion: Radiological parameters of the spinopelvic complex did not show correlation with hip function at the time of diagnosis in patients with symptomatic FAI. Conduct of further studies will be required in the effort to understand the effect of the spinopelvic complex and its compensatory mechanics, primarily between the hip and spine, in patients with FAI before and after hip arthroscopy.

        The Impact of Micro-enterprises in Business Situations: A Comparison between Mexico and Korea

        This microenterprise research aims to explore the role of microenterprises by comparing both countries’ situations (Korea vs. Mexico) and trying to observe through official statistics how these governments are applying different policies, and determining how this government decisions impact economic development. It will also be possible to see different paths taken by federal governments to support this sector, and how these commercial entities participate in the economic development of each country. The Mexican government is applying policies to support microenterprises as a way to generate employment, but these policies usually do not meet and understand Mexican microenterprises needs and realities, which is why more than 6 million microenterprises are informal. As in the case of Mexico, and to a lesser proportion in the case of Korea, microenterprises present an excellent opportunity for women, growth, development, and independence.
