TeCaRob: Tele-Care using Telepresence and Robotic Technology for Assisting People with Special Needs
Abdelsalam (Sumi) Helal, Bessam Abdulrazak 한국과학기술원 인간친화 복지 로봇 시스템 연구센터 2006 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.7 No.3
This paper discusses a new concept of home care delivery benefiting frail People with Special Needs (PwSN¹). This new concept is an extension of the existing Smart House (SH) concept, which is challenged when PwSN occupants need physical assistance. The TeCaRob concept explores the use of robotics to remotely assist frail elders and other PwSN in diverse tasks of daily living.
Influence of the collimation of the reference wave in off-axis digital holography
Abdelsalam, D.G.,Baek, B.J.,Kim, D. Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft m. b. H 2012 OPTIK -STUTTGART- Vol.123 No.16
In digital holography, the novel concept of the digital reference wave has opened in numerous opportunities for various fields to which digital holography may be applied. Oftentimes, a plane wave is utilized in digital holography experiments to operate as the reference wave; thus, the simulation of the plane wave is necessary for performing a numerical reconstruction. Conventionally, perfect collimation producing a perfect plane wave impinging on the reference should be carefully adjusted with a shear interferometer in order to obtain acceptable results. In this paper, we claim that it is not necessary to use a perfect plane wave in digital holography experiments. We experimentally proved that by using the Michelson interferometer, no influence of imperfect collimation of the reference wave in an off-axis digital holography exists, as has been previously claimed. Our deductions were verified by applying perfect and imperfect collimations to three different surfaces (flat, spherical and step) for height inspection and the results were almost consistent. The consistencies of the measured height values for the three tested surfaces at both perfect and imperfect collimations prove that there is no influence of imperfect collimations in off-axis digital holography.

Heat stress is a major challenge to animal production in tropical and subtropical climates. Rabbits suffer from heat stress more than farm animals because they have few sweat glands, and their bodies are covered with thick fur. Intensive farming relies on antibiotics as antimicrobials or growth promoters to increase animals' productivity and health. However, the European Union and many countries have banned or restricted the use of antibiotics in animal feed for human health concerns. Several studies have found that replacing antibiotics in rabbit feed with natural plants or feed additives increases productivity and improves immune capacity, especially under heat stress conditions. Growth performance, immune response, gut microflora, and carcass yield may be increased in rabbits fed a diet supplemented with some natural plants and/or propolis. In this review article, we discuss and summarize the effects of some herbs and plant extracts as alternative feed additives on rabbit productivity, especially for those raised under hot ambient temperatures.

This research aims to study the effectiveness of a proposed strategy for the development of Arabic speaking skills, focusing on Korean learners who are beginning in learning Arabic. By discovering the difficulties faced by Korean learners, and analyzing the mistakes committed by these learners while learning, as well as comparing the Arabic and Korean language systems and identifying similarities and differences between the two languages. Then how to overcome these difficulties using different effective teaching methods. And the research suggests the effective educational strategy based on the entrance to the language interview to develop the skills of speaking Arabic among Korean students at the beginner level, and evaluation of Arabic language textbooks in the light of the cultural criteria.

In addition to its modular nature, a Hybrid Modular Multilevel Converter (HMMC) assembled from half-bridge and full-bridge sub-modules, is able to block DC faults with a minimum number of switching devices, which makes it attractive for high power applications. This paper introduces a control strategy based on the Root-Least Square (RLS) algorithm to estimate the capacitor voltages instead of using direct measurements. This action eliminates the need for voltage transducers in the HMMC sub-modules and the associated communication link with the central controller. In addition to capacitor voltage balancing and suppression of circulating currents, a fault tolerant control unit (FTCU) is integrated into the proposed strategy to modify the parameters of the HMMC controller. On advantage of the proposed FTCU is that it does not need extra components. Furthermore, a fault detection unit is adapted by utilizing a hybrid estimation scheme to detect sub-module faults. The behavior of the suggested technique is assessed using PSCAD offline simulations. In addition, it is validated using a real-time digital simulator connected to a real time controller under various normal and fault conditions. The proposed strategy shows robust performance in terms of accuracy and time response since it succeeds in stabilizing the HMMC under faults.
Highly accurate film thickness measurement based on automatic fringe analysis
Abdelsalam, D.G.,Baek, B.J.,Abdel-Aziz, F.,Chegal, W.,Kim, D. Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft m. b. H 2012 OPTIK -STUTTGART- Vol.123 No.16
This paper describes an automated multiple-beam interferometry for measuring a calibrated step height of (27.00+/-3.00) nm nominally. The fringes captured from the multiple-beam Fizeau-Tolansky interferometer were thinned by using a written program to obtain accurate measurement. We claim that multiple-beam interferometry based on automatic fringe thinning process can provide a real time solution for calibrating step heights precisely and with high accuracy. The uncertainty budget of the multiple-beam interferometry method due to incomplete parallelism of the incident beam and the inhomogeneity of the reflecting layers was calculated automatically with a written ray tracing program. The uncertainty budget in multiple-beam interferometry was estimated to be of the order of 3.00nm.
Evaluation of oral and maxillofacial swellings using ultrasonographic features
Abdelsalam, Tarek Abdallah,Amer, Maha Eshak,Mahrous, Ahmed,Abdelkader, Moustafa Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2019 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.49 No.3
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristic features of oral and maxillofacial swellings that could be seen on ultrasonographic examinations. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients with oral and/or maxillofacial swellings were randomly selected, thorough case histories and clinical examinations were done, ultrasonographic examinations with Doppler imaging were performed, and the features of every group were studied. Finally, histopathological evaluations were performed to identify the final diagnosis, according to which patients were classified into 5 groups; group I: inflammatory/space infection and abscess swellings, group II: cystic swellings, group III: lymph node swellings, group IV: benign swellings, and group V: malignant neoplastic swellings. Results: A significant association (P<0.05), with a contingency coefficient of 0.88, was found between the histopathological and ultrasonographic diagnoses, with ultrasonography having a diagnostic accuracy of 89% in diagnosing maxillofacial swellings. The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasonography was 100% for lymph node and malignant swellings, followed by 98% for inflammatory and cystic swellings and 92% for benign swellings. The sensitivity of the ultrasonographic diagnosis was 100% for cystic, lymph node, and malignant swellings, followed by 91% for inflammatory swellings and 86% for benign swellings. Conclusion: Ultrasonographic features with Doppler imaging greatly aid in obtaining accurate diagnoses of oral and maxillofacial swellings. Ultrasonography is a recommended imaging tool for differentiating maxillofacial swellings and classifying them accurately.
