We estimated moment tensor and centroid depth of eight small/moderate local earthquakes occurred between 2011 and 2013 in the northern Red Sea Triple Junction using a moment tensor inversion of near-source waveform data recorded by very broadband stations of the Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN). We also estimated the focal mechanism using the P-wave polarity data set and then compared it with the moment tensor inversion results. The moment tensor solutions are consistent with the focal mechanism obtained from the P-wave polarity data. We also estimated the stress field in the study area using the Multiple Inverse Method (MIM). Our results indicate that the axis of the minimum principal stress is a nearly horizontal NE-SW direction, while the axis of the maximum principal stress is nearly vertical. The direction of the minimum principal stress is consistent with the opening direction of the northern Red Sea zone, where the southern part of Gulf of Suez is currently under an extensional stress field with a NE-SW trending horizontal extension. These results are compatible with the kinematics of the Red Sea-Gulf of Suez rift.

Hydroxyapatite(HAP) nanoparticles were successfully prepared from the biowaste chicken eggshells and phosphoric acid solution by chemical precipitation methods. The structures of HAP were characterized in terms of the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The effect of temperature on the crystallinity and lattice parameters of prepared HAP was monitored by X-ray powder diffraction. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis revealed that the HAP had a Ca/P molar ratio of about 1.65 and 1.69for as prepared and sintered HAP at 1200oC (1 hour), respectively. The temperature dependence on the electrical conductivity of sintered HAP nanoparticle was investigated. Furthermore, dielectric properties such as dielectric constant and dielectric loss as a function of frequency for the sintered HAP were also studied.

Offshore platforms in seismically active areas must be designed to survive in the face of intense earthquakes without a global structural collapse. This paper scrutinizes the seismic performance of a newly designed and established jacket type offshore platform situated in the entrance of the Gulf of Suez region based on the API-RP2A normalized response spectra during seismic events. A nonlinear finite element model of a typical jacket type offshore platform is constructed taking into consideration the effect of structure-soil-interaction. Soil properties at the site were manipulated to generate the pile lateral soil properties in the form of load deflection curves, based on API-RP2A recommendations. Dynamic characteristics of the offshore platform, the response function, output power spectral density and transfer functions for different elements of the platform are discussed. The joints deflection and acceleration responses demands are presented. It is generally concluded that consideration of the interaction between structure, piles and soil leads to higher deflections and less stresses in platform elements due to soil elasticity, nonlinearity, and damping and leads to a more realistic platform design. The earthquake-based analysis for offshore platform structure is essential for the safe design and operation of offshore platforms.

New substituted aroylhydrazones (4a-f) were synthesized from the acid hydrazide (3) and the corresponding aldehyde or aldose. 5-Amino-4-cyano-1H-pyrazole derivatives (6a-f) were prepared by the reaction of the aroylhydrazones (4a-f) with malononitrile. The synthesized compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity against various bacteria and fungi and showed moderate to high inhibition activities. Compounds incorporating a sugar moiety as well as a pyrazolyl ring in their structure displayed the highest antimicrobial activity.

A number of N- and S-substituted uracil and thiouracil glycosides were synthesized by coupling reaction of 5,6-dibenzyle pyrimidine derivatives with the corresponding acetobromosugar. The synthesized compounds were tested for their antiviral activity against hepatitis B virus. Plaque reduction infectivity assay was used to determine virus count reduction as a result of treatment with tested compounds which showed moderate to high antiviral activities.

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of semen parameters in samples used for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) with fertilization and pregnancy rates in infertile couples. Methods: In this prospective study of Infertile couples with male factor infertility that had undergone ICSI, fractions of the same semen samples obtained for microinjection (to ensure the best predictability) were evaluated to determine the semen parameters and sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) on the day of oocyte recovery. Results: In total, 120 couples completed the study and were subdivided into fertilized (n=87) and non-fertilized couples (n=33). The fertilized couples were further classified into pregnant (n=48) and non-pregnant (n=39) couples. Compared to non-fertilized and non-pregnant couples, fertilized and pregnant couples showed statistically significantly higher sperm viability and percentage of normal sperm morphology, as well as significantly lower sperm DFI values. A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of data from the 120 ICSI cycles showed that sperm viability, normal sperm morphology percentages, and sperm DFI were significant prognostic indicators of fertilization at cutoff values of 40%, 7%, and 46%, respectively. A sperm DFI of 46% showed sensitivity and specificity of 95% and 90%, respectively, for predicting fertilization, and no clinical pregnancies occurred in couples with a sperm DFI above 46%.Conclusion: Semen parameters from the ICSI day sample, especially sperm viability, normal morphology, and DFI, had an impact on fertilization and pregnancy outcomes in ICSI cycles.

In-place analysis for offshore platforms is required to make proper design for new structures and true assessment for existing structures. In addition, ensure the structural integrity of platforms components under the maximum and minimum operating loads and environmental conditions. In-place analysis was carried out to verify the robustness and capability of structural members with all appurtenances to support the applied loads in either operating condition or storm conditions. A nonlinear finite element analysis is adopted for the platform structure above the seabed and the pile-soil interaction to estimate the in-place behavior of a typical fixed offshore platform. The SACS software is utilized to calculate the natural frequencies of the model and to obtain the response of platform joints according to in-place analysis then the stresses at selected members, as well as their nodal displacements. The directions of environmental loads and water depth variations have an important effect on the results of the in-place analysis behavior. The influence of the soil-structure interaction on the response of the jacket foundation predicts is necessary to estimate the loads of the offshore platform well and real simulation of offshore foundation for the in-place analysis. The result of the study shows that the in-place response investigation is quite crucial for safe design and operation of offshore platform against the variation of environmental loads.

Four polymethoxyfavones were isolated from the leaves of Citrus deliciosa, three of which (nobiletin, 5-O-demethylnobiletin, and tangeritin) are bioactive. The fourth (7,4'-dihydroxy-5,6,8,3'-tetramethoxyflavone) is reported for the first time in the genus Citrus and is a potential chemotaxonomic marker. The structures of these flavones were confirmed by analysing their spectral data and comparison with similar compounds. The previously reported $^{13}C$ NMR assignment of 5-O-demethylnobiletin has been revised on the basis of 2D NMR experiments (HETCOR, COSY, and COLOC). The chemotaxonomic value of the present finding is verified.
