Lipomatosis: a diverse form of hemifacial hyperplasia

Arora, Preeti Chawla,Umarji, Hemant R.,Arora, Aman,Ramaswami, Easwaran Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2012 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.42 No.3

A case of hemifacial hyperplasia that presented with muscular, skeletal, and dental hyperplasia along with lipomatous infiltration was described. Advanced imaging was useful in identifying the lipomatous infiltration present in the lesion, which raises the possibility of lipomatosis having a diverse presentation in hemifacial hyperplasia. As there was a scarcity of related literature in the field of dentomaxillofacial radiology, this report would make us familiar with its computed tomographic and magnetic resonance image findings.

        Multicriteria Quadratic Plant Location Problem

Sudha Arora,S.R. Arora 한국경영과학회 2008 Management Science and Financial Engineering Vol.14 No.1

In this paper, we have considered the multicriteria quadratic plant location problem. In addition to the allocation costs, the maintenance costs of the plants are also considered. The objective functions considered in this paper are quadratic in nature. The given problem is reduced to the problem with linear objective function. The method of Fernandez and Puerto (2003) is applied to solve the reduced problem. It is illustrated with help of examples. The effect of the change in the allocation and maintenance costs on allocation of plants to the clients has also been discussed.

      • Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of zinc ferrite nanoparticles

        Arora, Shefali,Nandy, Subhajit,Latwal, Mamta,Pandey, Ganesh,Singh, Jitendra P.,Chae, Keun H. Techno-Press 2022 Advances in nano research Vol.13 No.5

Synthesis approaches usually affect the physical and chemical properties of ferrites. This helps ferrite materials to design them for desired applications. Some of these methods are mechanical milling, ultrasonic method, micro-emulsion, co-precipitation, thermal decomposition, hydrothermal, microwave-assisted, sol-gel, etc. These methods are extensively reviewed by taking example of ZnFe2O4. These methods also affect the microstructure and local structure of ferrite which ultimately affect the physical and chemical properties of ferrites. Various spectroscopic techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Ultra Violet-Visible spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, extended x-ray absorption fine structure, and electron paramagnetic resonance are found helpful to reveal this information. Hence, the basic principle and the usefulness of these techniques to find out appropriate information in ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles is elaborated in this review.

      • Ecofriendly Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation System: Optimum Operation and Inhibition Control Strategies for Enhanced Nitrogen Removal

        Arora, Amarpreet Singh,Nawaz, Alam,Yun, Chao Mun,Cho, Hwanchul,Lee, Moonyong American Chemical Society 2019 INDUSTRIAL & ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY RESEARCH - Vol.58 No.45

<P>In practice, the complete autotrophic nitrogen removal or partial-nitritation (PN) and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) process (PN/A) has gained immense popularity and widespread application owing to its low operational cost and better treatment possibilities. However, ANAMMOX-based systems are inhibited by numerous factors that pose enormous challenge to the success of this technology. Hence, in lieu of finding optimum operational strategies, a PN/A sequencing batch reactor for treating high-strength ammonia wastewater obtained from an anaerobic digester was evaluated for 400 days. The impact of processing unit cycle strategies on process performance was evaluated with the amalgamation of intermittent feeding and aeration. The ecofriendly and eco-efficient system, adopted in this study, ensured enhanced cost-effective nitrogen removal along with reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions underlying stringent regulation. Nitrogen removal rate of 81% along with 68% reduction in GHG emissions compared to the conventional nitrification/denitrification system (29% lower than the last reported ANAMMOX system) was successfully achieved. The key concerns in negating the impacts of ANAMMOX inhibition caused by the seven most influential parameters/mechanisms are also addressed.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Dilemmas pertaining to three canals in the mesiobuccal root of a maxillary second molar: a case report

Arora, Ankit,Acharya, Shashi Rashmi,Saraswathi, Muliya Vidya,Sharma, Padmaja,Ather, Amber The Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry 2013 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.38 No.3

The mesiobuccal root of the maxillary molars is well known to pose a hindrance during endodontic therapy. Presented here is a case of a maxillary left second molar where three canals were located in its mesiobuccal root with the use of visual and diagnostic aids. Difficulties encountered during the process of unveiling the tooth's internal anatomy were discussed. The dilemmas encountered pertained to the root canal configuration, the nomenclature of the extra canals, and the justification for the presence of a third canal. The root canal configuration of 3-2-1 was confirmed for the mesiobuccal root using information gained from clinical, radiographic, and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scan findings. This case demonstrates the need for efforts to locate extra canals in the mesiobuccal root of the maxillary molars as their internal anatomy remains a mystery.

Imposition of Nutrient Stress on Soilborne Fungal Pathogens

        Arora, D. K. 한국균학회 1991 韓國菌學會誌 Vol.19 No.2

Propagules of soiborne pytopathogenic fungi are subjected to numerous abiotic (soil moisture, temperature, pH, oxygen, radiation, chemicals etc.) and biotic (predation, hyperparasitism, antibiosis etc.). In soil fungal propagules must survive with numerous other microorganisms and compete for available energy (carbon) substrate. The competition for energy substrate influences the ability of fungal inoculum to persist in soil. It is found that enhanced exudation of carbon compounds from fungal propagules may also result from exposure to competitive stress imposed by soil microorganisms. The imposition of mycostasis by nutrient deprivation appears to be related to increased endogenous exudation losses. The loss of 14C-exudation from the fungai inoculum was found to be directly related with germination suppression. This phenamenon was experimentally evaluated imposing the propagules under diffusive stress, in soil and in the presence of specific microorganisms. Greater rate of 14C-exudation was found in soil and in the presence of specific microorganisms than from the propagules exposed to artificial diffusive stress. Loss of endogenous carbon from the fungal propagules has also been directly realated to elevation of nutrient requirements for the germination, progressive loss of viability, formation of persisten structures and decreased aggressiveness. The consequences of imposed stress on propagules have potential significance in the management of soilborne fungal diseases. The cellular mechanism by which biotic or abiotic stress suppresses germination is not known. Possibly, depletion of nutrients from the fungal propagules occurs by enzyme-hydrolysis $quot;sensor$quot; system which depends upon degree of imposed competitive nutrient stress.

Credit Risk Measurement Practices in Indian Commercial Banks - An Empirical Investigation

Arora, Swaranjeet KNU The Institute of Management Economy Research 2014 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.5 No.2

Banking institutions have been facing variety of difficulties but the major cause of serious banking problems relates to lax credit standards for borrowers and counterparties, poor portfolio risk management, or a lack of attention to changes in economic or other circumstances that can lead to deterioration in the credit standing of a bank's counterparties. Although credit risk is an important factor that financial institutions should cope with, but the determinants of measuring credit risk have been studied less. This paper attempts to explore the determinants of credit risk measurement and to identify the factors that contribute to credit risk measurement practices in Indian banks and to compare credit risk measurement practices followed by Indian public and private sector banks, the empirical study has been conducted and views of employees of various banks have been tested using statistical tools. This study explored the phenomenon from different perspectives and revealed that single-name credit risk measurement and portfolio credit risk measurement are the key components that contribute to credit risk measurement in Indian banks. From the descriptive and analytical results, it can be concluded that Indian banks efficiently measure credit risk. The results also indicate that there is a significant difference between the Indian public and private sector banks in single-name credit risk measurement while, these banks do not significantly differ in portfolio credit risk measurement aspect.
