Purpose: Whether subtotal or total colectomy with primary anastomosis (PA) is safer than Hartmann procedure (HP) for left-sided colon cancer obstruction or perforation remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative morbidity, mortality, and defecation frequency between PA and HP for left-sided colon cancer obstruction or perforation. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 54 patients from January 2014 to February 2018 who underwent emergency surgery due to left-sided colon cancer obstruction or perforation. Results: PA was carried out in 20 patients while HP was performed for 34 patients. Thirty-day mortality did not show significant difference between the two groups (15.0% vs. 14.7%, P=1.000). No anastomotic leakage occurred in PA group while three (8.8%) cases of stump leakage occurred in HP group. Stoma repair was performed for 13 cases (44.8%) and stoma reformation was performed for one case in HP group (7.7%). Stoma related complications occurred in five cases (17.24%). For patients after stoma repair, defecation frequency at 3 months after operation was 2.91±2.88 times per day in PA group and 2.86±2.63 times per day in HP group. At 1 year after operation, defecation frequency was changed to 1.40±1.12 times per day in PA group and 1.17±0.39 times per day in HP group. During the use of API X70 steel as a pipeline structural material for the transportation of natural gas,hydrogen embrittlement can occur due to the hydrogen contained in natural gas. The aim of this study is toinvestigate the effects of the hydrogen content under high-pressure hydrogen gas conditions on the hydrogenembrittlement of air-cooled API X70 steel. The air-cooled API X70 steel was manufactured by hot rollingand was then air-cooled to room temperature. Tensile test specimens were held for 0 h, 1000 h, and 2000 hwithin a pressure vessel filled with 100% hydrogen gas at a gas pressure of 10 MPa, with the tensile teststhen performed at room temperature. The microstructure of the API X70 steel consists of coarse polygonalferrite, coarse pearlite, and fine acicular ferrite. The yield and tensile strength increased and elongationdecreased considerably after a holding time of 2000 h compared to those of 0 h and 1000 h within the pressurevessel. The morphology of the fracture surface changed from ductile to brittle upon hydrogen gas charging. Secondary cracks were observed in both of the hydrogen-gas-charged specimens. No external cracks wereformed on the surface of the tensile-tested specimen with a 0 h holding time; however, many external crackswere observed on the specimen surface subjected to hydrogen gas charging.

Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (USFNA) is a very useful procedure for the diagnosis and management of thyroid diseases. It is very safe procedure and complications have been rarely reported. We experienced a case of an extensive hemorrhage after USFNA of the thyroid nodule in a patient undergoing long-term aspirin therapy. We emphasize that it is very important to obtain a patient history carefully before performing a USFNA. (Korean J Endocrine Surg 2007;7:39-41)

Quality characteristics of frozen cylindrical pork loin were evaluated following different tempering methods: 27.12 MHz curved-electrode radio frequency (RF) at 1000 and 1500 W, and forced-air convection (FC) or water immersion (WI) at 4ºC and 20°C. The developed RF tempering system with the newly designed curved-electrode achieved relatively uniform tempering compared to a parallel-plate RF system. FC tempering at 4°C was the most time-consuming process, whereas 1500 W RF was the shortest. Pork sample drip loss, water holding capacity, color, and microbiological quality declined after WI tempering at 20°C. Conversely, RF tempering yielded minimal sample changes in drip loss, microstructure, color, and total aerobic bacteria counts, along with relatively uniform internal sample temperature distributions compared to those of the other tempering treatments. These results indicate that curved-electrode RF tempering could be used to provide rapid defrosting with minimal quality deterioration of cylindrical frozen meat block products.
Effects of dietary supplementation with probiotic CS-A on performance in broiler chickens

Probiotics, enzymes, organic acids, oligosaccharides, antioxidants, and other functional materials are actively being explored as alternatives to antibiotics. Probiotics include live beneficial microorganisms that colonize the intestinal tract and competitively inhibit attachment and growth of harmful microbes. Probiotics also increase feed efficiency by assisting in nutrient absorption and digestion. The current study was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of a new probiotic, CS-A, as a dietary supplement of a fermented product on growth performance, feed intake, and feed conversion efficiency in broiler chickens, and to evaluate its value as an alternative for antibiotics used as a feed additive. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of CS-A were investigated in vitro and the in vivo effects of a constant concentration of supplemented CS-A on growth rate and feed efficiency were evaluated. In addition, the safety of CS-A was assessed by examination of common symptoms and mortality. Determination of minimal inhibitory concentration revealed an excellent antibacterial effect of CS-A. Cytotoxicity was low and anti-inflammatory effects were achieved at the effective concentration of CS-A. Supplementation with 0.1% CS-A resulted in a feed efficiency score of 1.84 in broilers, compared to 2.00 in the control group. There were no adverse clinical findings, necropsy findings, hematology, and altered serum biochemistry parameters, and no mortality. Thus, it is concluded that CS-A is safe and effective as a feed additive.
이마앞엽 활성도를 이용한 인지 과제 난이도 예측 알고리즘 구축

목적: 본 연구는 훈련 시 사용하는 난이도를 기능적 근적외선 분광기(fNIRS)를 이용한 이마앞엽 활성도로 사용하여 대상자 맞춤 난이도로 훈련을 제공하고 그 효용성을 확인하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 연구는 크게 두 단계로 진행되었다. 첫 번째 연구는 이마앞엽 활성도 기반의 난이도 예측 알고리즘 개발연구로 이를 위해 45명의 대상자를 모집하여 데이터를 수집하였다. 먼저 4가지 인지 과제를 하는 동안 이마앞엽의 뇌활성도를 측정하여 데이터셋을 만들고 기계학습을 통해 변수를 선정하여 알고리즘을 구축하고 예측 정확도를 검증하였다. 두 번째 연구는 구축한 알고리즘을 대상자 맞춤형 난이도로 활용하여 인지훈련의 효과를 확인하는 연구로 대상자 1명이 참여하였다. 훈련은 30분간 총 5회를 가상현실 속에서 목표지점을 찾는 가상현실 기반 공간 인지 과제로 훈련하였으며, 매회 직전에 기능적 근적외선 분광기를 이용하여 훈련에 사용할 난이도를 측정하고 훈련에 적용하였다. 또한, 실험 전, 후로 기능적 근적외선 분광기를 착용한 체 선로 잇기 검사를 시행하여 대상자의 훈련 효과를 평가하였다. 결과: 난이도 예측 알고리즘을 구축하기 위해서 독립변수는 복외측 전전두엽 피질의 뇌활성도 변수로 종속변수는 2개의 난이도로 군을 나눈 것으로 선정하였고, 다양한 기계학습 기법을 비교한 결과 로지스틱회귀분석 알고리즘에서 86% 정확도로 가장 높게 난이도를 예측할 수 있었다. 또한, 구축한 알고리즘을 5회기의 공간인지 훈련에 대상자 맞춤 난이도로 적용한 결과 훈련 동안 이마앞엽 활성도와 공간인지 수행도가 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있으며, 훈련 전후의 결과에서도 뇌 효율성이 높아진 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 결론: 본 연구 결과를 통해 재활훈련에 있어 대상자의 수행도 뿐 아니라 생체신호 기반의 객관적 근거를 토대로 훈련의 난이도 제시하는데 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것이다. Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide training with a customized difficulty and confirm its effectiveness by using the difficulty used during training as the activity of prefrontal cortex using fNIRS. Methods: This study was conducted in two different stages. First, a study of the development of a difficulty prediction algorithm based on the activity of prefrontal cortex, and 45 subjects were recruited and data was collected. During the four cognitive tasks, the brain activity of prefrontal cortex was measured to create a dataset, and variables were selected thorough machine learning, algorithms were developed, and prediction accuracy was verified. Second, a study is to confirm the effectiveness of cognitive training by using algorithm, and one subject participated. Training was conducted five times for 30 minutes as a spatial cognitive task and before each training, the difficulty level to be used for training was measured using fNIRS and applied. Trial making test(TMT) by using fINRS was also evaluated at pre- and post-test. Results: In order to develop an algorithm, the variable was selected as the brain activity of VLPFC and cluster of two difficulty level group. The highest accuracy was 86%, which was logistic regression algorithm. As a result of applying the developed algorithm to the subject’s customized difficulty level for spatial cognitive training, activation was increased in prefrontal cortex and performance also was increased during training. Conclusion: These results suggested that the spatial cognitive training with subject-customized difficulty level using activity of brain would be useful in increasing in activation in prefrontal cortex and improving spatial cognition, which might have a positive effect on improving in brain efficiency.
