The warping behavior of bimetal-slab during flat rolling process are characterized in this study. An analytical model that can predict warping amount in bimetal-slab rolling is proposed on the basis of bending effect due to the related mismatch of longitudinal elongation during flat rolling. The warping model focuses on the mismatch of length-wise elongation due to the difference of deformation resistances between constituent materials of bimetallic-slab. Using this analytical model, the warping behavior of the bimetal-slab during rolling process at various processing parameters, such as initial thickness ratio and rolling reduction were studied. For the validation of analytical model, flat rolling operations by using Al1050/Al6061 bimetal-slab produced by continuous clad casting has been performed. The deformation characteristics of bimetal-slab during rolling process were also validated by finite element analysis using a commercial finite element code, FORGE™. From this study, the warping behaviors of bimetal-slab during flat rolling have been reliably characterized.
