        Clinical Utility and Cut-Off Scores of the Korean Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale

        Objectives: This study was conducted to re-validate the clinical efficacy of the Korean Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Rating Scale (K-AARS), which is a self-report scale for ADHD in adults, and to determine the clinical utility and cut-off scores of K-AARS. Methods: The participants were 135 drug naïve adults with ADHD and 144 healthy controls. To diagnose ADHD based on the diagnostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, two board-certified pediatric psychiatrists interviewed the participants and completed the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview. K-AARS was applied to all participants. K-AARS comprises six clinical subscales, one impairment subscale, and one driving behavior subscale. The receiver operating characteristic analysis was conducted to calculate the cut-off scores of K-AARS. Results: All subscale scores, including six clinical subscale, impairment subscale, and driving behavior subscale scores, were found to be significant in distinguishing adults with ADHD from healthy controls. The sensitivity and specificity of the six clinical subscales were 63.0–77.0% and 66.7–79.9%, respectively. The combined total score of the six clinical subscales, had a sensitivity of 80.0% and specificity of 79.9%. Conclusion: The discriminative power of K-AARS for the diagnosis of ADHD in adults was excellent, and K-AARS and the empirical diagnosis of adults can be useful in diagnosing ADHD in adulthood.

        흰쥐의 좌골신경 신경손상에 따른 골격근 중간세사단백의 발현변화 실험적 신경성근병중에서의 desmin과 vimentin으 발현

        중간세사단백인 desmin은 성숙한 근성유의 세포골격을 이루며 Vnnentin은 근재생시 중간엽기원 세포에 나타나기 때문에 중간세사단액의 발현여부로 근재생과정을 주석할 수 있다 신경성근영총에 따른 근재생과정을 중간세사의 변화로 알아보고자 흰쥐의 좌골신경을 압궤손상시킨 후 시기별 (2 4 6, 15 20, 27, 69일)로 장딴지근을 정취해 냉동연속조직절편을 제작한 뒤 연역조직화학적 반응을 시켜 desmin 및 Vlmentin 의 발현변화를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다 l. 정상적인 흰쥐 장딴지근의 근섬유에서 desmin은 약하게 반응한 반연 Vlmentm 은 반응이 없었고 신경 손상 후 2, 4일째까지 같은 현상을 보였다. 2. 신경 손상후 6일째에 처음으로 desmin과 Vlmentin 에 모두 강한 양성연역반응을 보이는 위축된 근섬유들이 관찰되었다. 3. 신경손상 후 15일째에서 위축왼 근섬유을이 증가되었고 정상 근성유보다 desmm 에 강한 면역반응성을 나타내었다. Desmin과 vlmentm 모두에 양성반응율 보인 위쭉왼 근섬유들이 소수 관찰되었다. 4. 신경손상 후 20일째에서 대부분의 근섬유들이 정상 근성유 보다 너 강한 desmin 양성연역반응을 보였다. 일부 근섬유들은 중심핵을 갖고 있었으며 desmin과 Vimentin에 대한 양성연역반응을 동시에 나타내었다 5. 신경손상 후 27일째에서 대부분의 근섬유들은 정상 크기로 회복되었으나 소수의 근섬유들은 위축된 상태였다 위축된 근섬유은 desmin에는 반응성을 보이지 않은 반면 Vlmentm 에 매해서는 은섬유의 일부가 양성반응을 나타내였다. 6. 신경손상후 69일째에서 비대된 근섬유가 많이 관찰되였고 desmin 및 vinentin에 대한 면역반응은 정상근섬유와 동일하였다. 일부 위축된 근섬유들은 desmin 에 양성 면역반응을 보였으나 Vlmentm 에는 양성 면역반응을 보인 근섬유는 관찰되지 않았다. 위의 결과로 미루어 볼 때 약한 desmm 반응 만을 보이는 은섬유는 정상 강한 desmm잔응만을 나타내는 근섬유는 변성 (degeneration), desmm 과 Vlmentm 이 동시에 나타내는 근섬유는 재생 (regenerahon) 중인 근섬유라고 규정지을 수 있겠다 그러므로 중간세사 단액인 desmin 과 Vlinentm 발현 어부로 신경성근육병증에는 물론 다양한 근육병증의 진단 및 근육발생에도 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

        IGRINS NEAR-IR HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY OF MULTIPLE JETS AROUND LkH<i>α</i>234

        <P>We present the results of high-resolution near-IR spectroscopy toward the multiple outflows around the Herbig Be star LkH alpha 234 using the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph. Previous studies indicate that the region around LkHa 234 is complex, with several embedded young stellar objects and the outflows associated with them. In simultaneous H- and K-band spectra from HH 167, we detected 5 [Fe II] and 14 H-2 emission lines. We revealed a new [Fe II] jet driven by radio continuum source VLA 3B. Position-velocity diagrams of the H-2 1-0 S(1) lambda 2.122 mu m line show multiple velocity peaks. The kinematics may be explained by a geometrical bow shock model. We detected a component of H-2 emission at the systemic velocity (V-LSR = -10.2 km s(-1)) along the whole slit in all slit positions, which may arise from the ambient photodissociation region. Low-velocity gas dominates the molecular hydrogen emission from knots A and B in HH 167, which is close to the systemic velocity; [Fe II] emission lines are detected farther from the systemic velocity, at V-LSR = -100--130 km s(-1). We infer that the H-2 emission arises from shocked gas entrained by a high-velocity outflow. Population diagrams of H-2 lines imply that the gas is thermalized at a temperature of 2500-3000 K and the emission results from shock excitation.</P>

      • Reorganization of highly preorganized hosts upon cation complexation: Ab initio study of fluorospherands

        <P>Fluorospherands (F-spherands) are highly preorganized hosts composed of fluorobenzene or 4-methylfluorobenzene units attached to one another at their 2,6-positions. To understand the intrinsic factors affecting cation complexation, we investigated the complexation behavior between F-spherands and cations using density functional theory (DFT) at the level of B3LYP/6-31G**. The F6-spherand (C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>3</SUB>F)<SUB>6</SUB>, (1) has a highly preorganized spherical cavity, which can encapsulate Li<SUP>+</SUP> and Na<SUP>+</SUP>. Its cavity is not big enough for K<SUP>+</SUP> and NH<EM><SUP>+</SUP><SUB>4</SUB></EM>, which prefer external binding. Plausible conformations were studied for F8-spherand (C<SUB>6</SUB>H<SUB>3</SUB>F)<SUB>8</SUB>. Conformer of D<SUB>2d</SUB> symmetry (2b) is more stable than that of D<SUB>4d</SUB> (2a), in agreement with NMR experiments. The cavity size of F8-spherand is big enough to encapsulate all cations studied. However, the cavity size of 2b is smaller than that of 2a, which resulted in the guest selectivity. Upon complexation, 2b conformation is more stable for Li<SUP>+</SUP> and Na<SUP>+</SUP>, while 2a conformation is preferred for larger cations such as K<SUP>+</SUP> and NH<EM><SUP>+</SUP><SUB>4</SUB></EM>.         Evaluation of Cytotoxicity, Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Enzyme Activity of Diploid and Tetraploid Platycodon grandiflorum

        This experiment was conducted to obtain the have higher contents of pharmaceutical constituents as well as higher yield from colchicine induced diploid and tetraploid extracts of Platycodon grandiflorum. In order to determine the biological activity, this study was focused to evaluate the cytotoxicity, antimicrobial on the bronthus disease bacteria, antioxidant enzyme activity of diploid and tetraploid extracts in P. grandiflorum. The activities of antioxidant enzyme according to different solvent extracts were measured as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX). The cytotoxicity of methanol extracts of P. grandiflorum showed significant differences between tetraploid and diploid. That is, the cytotoxic effect against human cancer cell was higher in tetraploid than in diploid. At all extracts concentration, tetraploid samples showed high toxicity and the IC50 (concentration causing 50% cell death) value showed the highest on HCT-116 cell (105.91 μg/mL), and exhibited significant activity against the Hep 3B cell (140.67 μg/mL), SNU-1066 cell (154.01 μg/mL), Hela cell (158.37 μg/mL), SNU-601 cell (182.67 μg/mL), Calu-6 cell (190.42 μg/mL), MCF-7 cell (510.19 μg/mL). Antimicrobial activities of diploid P. grandiflorum were relatively low compared to tetraploid P. grandiflorum on most of the bacterial strains. In tetraploid P. grandiflorum, K. pneumoniae showed the clear zone formation (18~19 mm) of growth inhibition, followed by the clear zone formation of 13~15 mm on C. diphtheria and S. pyogenes. The antimicrobial activities in diploid P. grandiflorum were the highest on K. pneumonia (14~15 mm), and showed the clear zone formation of 11~12 mm on C. diphtheria and 12~13 mm on S. pyogenes. The antimicrobial activity is thought to look different depending on the bacterial strains and the polyploidy of P. grandiflorum. The root extract of P. grandiflorum had the highest (97.2%) SOD enzyme activity in ethyl acetate partition layer of tetraploid while water partition layer of diploid showed the lowest (48.6%) SOD enzyme activity. The activity of CAT showed higher values in the root of tetraploid than in the diploid of P. grandiflorum in all partition layers except butyl alcohol. The activities of APX and POD showed higher values in the root of tetraploid than in the diploid of P. grandiflorum in all fraction solvents except water layer. These results indicate that the tetraploid P. grandiflorum can be used as a source for developing cytotoxic agent and antimicrobials which can act against bronchus diseases bacterial strains.

      • Identification of Differentially Expressed Proteins in Imatinib Mesylate-resistant Chronic Myelogenous Cells

        Resistance to imatinib mesylate (also known as Gleevec, Glivec, and STI571) often becomes a barrier to the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). In order to identify markers of the action of imatinib mesylate, we used a mass spectrometry approach to compare protein expression profiles in human leukemia cells (K562) and in imatinib mesylate-resistant human leukemia cells (K562-R) in the presence and absence of imatinib mesylate. We identified 118 differentially regulated proteins in these two leukemia cell-lines, with and without a $1\;{\mu}M$ imatinib mesylate challenge. Nine proteins of unknown function were discovered. This is the first comprehensive report regarding differential protein expression in imatinib mesylate-treated CML cells.

        Mucocele involving the paranasal sinuses are commomly occurring lesions. The literature shows that the frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses are most frequently involved, in that order, whereas involvement of the maxillary sinus is relatively rare?. Mucopyocele, mucocele in which the mucous secretion has become purulent, are less common in the maxillary sinus. The following case report is of interest because of the relative rarity of this destructive inflammatory process in the maxillary sinus and because, as in this patient, the lesion can sometimes be confused with a malignant neoplasm.

      • 표면 결합모델을 이용한 알칼리 처리한 노간주나무의(BTJF)산/염기 그리고 카드뮴 결합특성 조사

        A simple surface complexation model, the Constant Capacity Model (CCM), was used to describe the sorption of Cd^(2+) on a lignocellulosic which is base treated juniper fiber (BTJF). The binding of protons was studied by potentiometric titrations and conductiometric titrations. The BTJF was represented by two acid sites. From the acid/base titration data, total concentrations of these sites and H^(+) binding constants were obtained by using the NICA-Donnan model (The new Non-Ideal Competitive Adsorption). After identifying the stoichiometry of the surface complexes by potentiometric titrations of the Cd^(2+)/solid system using NICA-Donnan model, the surface complexation model was applied to describe Cd^(2+) binding by the BTJF using FITEQL 4.0. A single set of data was used; the model fit was good and covered a wide range of pH. The surface complexation constants derived from this single metal data set were then used to predict the sorption for increasing metal loading. The predictions agreed well with the experimental data showing the capability for the CCM surface complexation model to describe Cd^(2+) binding to the BTJF.

        천연의 금속매염염료인 자근에 의한 변의 염색에서 농후,견뢰염색을 목적으로 각종의 염색조건의 변화 및 변의 개질에 따른 염료의 염색성을 비교 ? 검토하였다. 그 결과 자근색소추출은 아세톤추출이 가장 적당하였으며,온도와 pH가 높을수록 염색시료가 bluish색상을 나타내었다. 카르복시메틸화면에 선매염후 67"C 에서의 염색이 염착량 증대 및 세탁견뢰도 향상에 효과적이었다.

      • Bi₂(MoO₄)₃단결정 b-plane의 Chemical Etching에 관한 연구

        Bi₂(Mo0₄)₃단결정을 질산과 불산을 혼합한 부식액들을 사용하여 온도와 시간을 달리하여 부식시켰다. Bi₂(Mo0₄)₃단결정의 b-plane에는 HF:HNO₃= 1:2인 부식액이 적합하였다. Et-ch pattern 들을 근거로 하여 Bi₂(Mo0₄)₃)의 결정구조를 논의하였고, 이 결정 b-plane의 vickers 경도값은 333kg·f/mm²이었다. B₂(Mo0₄)₃single crystals were etched at various temperatures and times using the etchants which are consisted of HNO₃and HF. The etchant, HF:HNO₃=1:2, is reliable solution in producing etch pits on b-plane of Bi₂(Mo0₄)₃ single crystals. The crystal structure is discussed on the basis if etch patterns. The Vickers hardness of b-plane of Bi₂(Mo0₄)₃single crystals is 333kg·f/mm²
