In this study, rice husk and straw particles were manufactured as biodegradable composites using compression mold method. Poly-lactic Acid (PLA) a biodegradable polymer matrix is used. The raw material, rice husk and rice straw, was available and gained on the agriculture field. Chemical treatment methods were carried out on the fibers which vary the proportion of crystallinity and improve the fiber matrix adhesion. Further more, this article gives a survey about physical and mechanical properties in order to accomplish a comparison between rice husk and rice straw. The preparation and properties of the fibers are discussed briefly as well as their compatibility with existing processing technology. The effectiveness of this method is strongly influenced by the treatment conditions used. This kind of bio-composites will be used as flexural materials in construction because of the bearing capacity of pressure.

In the recent years, the use of natural fiber as reinforcements in polymer composites for replacing synthetic fiber is rapidly increased. Coconut is growing in some tropical countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, India... especially, it is very cheap and infinite resource. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic polymer, which was used extensively in recent years because the biodegradable composites are friendly with environment. This study is concerned with the mechanical properties of coconut fiber (coir) reinforced PLA composite. The coconut fiber reinforced PLA composite was manufactured by heating compression mold with different contents of coconut fiber. The tensile test and bending test will be carried out to verify the mechanical properties of composite and the effect of coconut contents to them.
