In many microvascular surgery, vascular replacement of small artery is often necessary due to arterial defect or tension, and autogenous vein graft has been used widely. Alternatives of vein grafts are vascular prosthesis, allograft, and xenograft. The xenograft has problem as antigenecity which was reduced by alcohol preservation and irradiated human placenta artery. In this experimental studies, the arterial defect was made by excision of carotid artery of rat which it's average external diameter was 1.2 mm, and this was replaced with 4 different methods. 120 rats were divided into 4 groups as following; 1. Fresh human placenta arterial xenograp. (control group) 2. Alcohol preserved group. 3. 500 Rad irradiated group. (Co-60) 4. 1000 Rad irradiated group. (Co-60) The patency rate and histologic changes are observed at post-graft 1 week, 3 week, and 5 week, and the results are as following; 1. The patency rate were increase in group 2,3, and 4 as compared to control group. 2. No significant difference were noted in aneurysmal formation between control group and other groups. 3. The less foreign body reaction and changes of vascular wall thickness were noted in groups 2,3,and 4 than control group. 4. No difference was noted in radiation dosage.
