        Hong JeongHa's Tianyuanshu and Zhengcheng Kaifangfa

        Tianyuanshu and Zengcheng Kaifangfa introduced in the Song-Yuan dynasties and their contribution to the theory of equations are one of the most important achievements in the history of Chinese mathematics. Furthermore, they became the most fundamental subject in the history of East Asian mathematics as well. The operations, or the mathematical structure of polynomials have been overlooked by traditional mathematics books. Investigation of GuIlJib (九一集) of Joseon mathematician Hong JeongHa reveals that Hong's approach to polynomials is highly structural. For the expansion of $\prod_{k=11}^{n}(x+a_k)$, Hong invented a new method which we name Hong JeongHa's synthetic expansion. Using this, he reveals that the processes in Zhengcheng Kaifangfa is not synthetic division but synthetic expansion.

        Chosun Mathematics in the early 18th century

        1592년과 1636년 양대 전란으로 전통적인 조선 산학의 결과는 거의 소멸되어, 17세기 중엽 조선 산학은 새로 시작할 수밖에 없었다. 조선은 같은 시기에 청으로 부터 도입된 시헌력(時憲曆, 1645)을 이해하기 위하여 서양수학에 관련된 자료를 수입하기 시작하였다. 한편 전통 산학을 위하여 김시진(金始振, 1618-1667)은 산학계몽(算學啓蒙, 1299)을 중간(重刊)하였다. 이들의 영향으로 이루어진 조태구(趙泰耉, 1660-1723)의 주서관견(籌書管見)과 홍정하(洪正夏, 1684-?)의 구일집(九一集)을 함께 조사하여 이들이 조선 산학의 발전에 새로운 전기를 마련한 것을 보인다. After disastrous foreign invasions in 1592 and 1636, Chosun lost most of the traditional mathematical works and needed to revive its mathematics. The new calendar system, ShiXianLi(時憲曆, 1645), was brought into Chosun in the same year. In order to understand the system, Chosun imported books related to western mathematics. For the traditional mathematics, Kim Si Jin(金始振, 1618-1667) republished SuanXue QiMeng(算學啓蒙, 1299) in 1660. We discuss the works by two great mathematicians of early 18th century, Cho Tae Gu(趙泰耉, 1660-1723) and Hong Jung Ha(洪正夏, 1684-?) and then conclude that Cho's JuSeoGwanGyun(籌 書管見) and Hong's GuIlJib(九一集) became a real breakthrough for the second half of the history of Chosun mathematics.

        Floristic characteristics of vascular plants and first distributional report of Pseudostellaria baekdusanensis M. Kim in Yongneup wetland protected area

        Yongneup wetland protected area, the only high moor in Korea, is a core area to conserve biodiversity. Even though the Yongneup wetland protected area is relatively small, various plant species are distributed in the Yongneup wetland protected area because it includes various habitats showing different environmental gradients. Vascular plants distributed in the Yongneup wetland protected area were identified as a total of 376 taxa that is composed of 73 families, 217 genera, 322 species, 3 subspecies, 44 varieties and 7 forms. For endangered plants designated by the Ministry of Environment, 5 species including Trientalis europaea var. arctica, Lilium dauricum, Halenia corniculata, Lychnis wilfordii and Menyanthes trifoliata were found and 34 taxa were confirmed to be distributed only in the mountainous wetland habitats. Regarding naturalized plants, a total of 11 taxa were distributed, but most of them were distributed in the areas where artificial interference has occurred. And in areas inside the wetlands that are relatively well preserved, 2 species of Bidens frondosa and Erigeron annuus were observed. In this study, the occurrence and distribution of Pseudostellaria baekdusanensis M. Kim, which was recently found in Mt. Baekdu and reported as a new species, were identified in the Yongneup wetland protected area. A wetland is a very vulnerable area to drastic environmental changes and damages to its ecosystem could cause the extinction of rare plant species which are distributed only in the wetlands. Therefore, it is mandatory that current status of the Yongneup wetland protected area is evaluated and actions to prevent rapid environmental changes are taken. Fourteen separate investigations were conducted in 2013 and another four in 2014, to evaluate current status of the Yongneup wetland protected area. These investigations have provided us the basic information for future actions of conservation and restoration.

        아동청소년 교우관계문제검사의 요인구조

        본 연구는 아동청소년 교우관계문제검사(KIPR)에 잠재되어 있는 요인구조를 밝히고 검증하여 이 검사의 심리적 특성을 밝히고 해석적 유용성을 높이는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 경남지역 3개 초등학교 4~6학년 아동 616명을 대상으로 아동청소년 교우관계문제검사를 실시하였고 그 중 578명의 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 3요인과 4요인 모형을 설정하여 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 결과 3요인 모형이 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 3요인 모형에서 요인 1은 아동청소년 교우관계문제검사의 비주장성(C5), 사회적 억제(C4), 냉담(C3), 과순응성(C6) 원형척도의 문항들로 구성되어 있어서 "자신감 결여와 사회적 위축", 요인 2는 통제지배(C1), 자기중심성(C2) 원형척도의 문항들로 구성되어 있어서 "공격성과 타인조종", 요인 3은 자기희생(C7), 과관여(C8), 과순응성(C6) 원형척도의 문항들로 구성되어 있어서 "과잉배려"로 명명하였다. 둘째, 확인적 요인분석을 실시한 결과 3요인 모형은 4요인 모형보다 수집된 자료를 잘 반영하고 있었고(RMSEA=.054), 적합도는 만족할 수준은 아니지만 수용할 수 있는 수준이었고(CFI=.786), 모형의 간명성 또한 적합한 것으로 나타났다(PCFI=.733). 본 연구에서는 교우관계원형에서 상관계수가 높은 인접한 척도끼리는 동일한 요인으로 묶여지는 것을 확인하였고 이를 통해 8개의 원형척도를 망라하는 상위의 대표적인 요인척도를 구성하는데 필요한 근거를 제공하여, 이 검사의 해석적 유용성을 높였다는 점에서 의의가 있다고 생각된다. The purpose of this study is to reveal and confirm the factor structure inherent in the Korean inventory of peer relationships(KIPR; Sang-Hwang Hong, et al., 2009) in order to strengthen the interpretive usefulness of the test. For this purpose, the inventory was administered to the total of 616 children in the fourth through sixth grades in three elementary schools located in Gyungnam area, and the data from 578 of them were analyzed. The results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, as a result of the exploratory factor analysis of 3-factor and 4-factor models, the 3-factor model was found to be more appropriate. In the 3-factor model, the factor 1 is named "Lack of Self-Confidence and Social Withdrawal" as it consists of such circumplex scale items as Non-Assertiveness (C5), Social Avoidance (C4), the Cold (C3), and Too Submissive (C6). The factor 2 is named "Too Aggressive and Controlling" and consists of items Too Controlling (C1) and Hard to be Supportive (C2). The factor 3 is named "Too Caring" and consists of items Too Responsible (C7), Over Involvement (C8), and Too Submissive (C6). Second, as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, the 3-factor model, in comparison to the 4-factor model, was found to better reflect the collected data(RMSEA=.054), its goodness of fit was not satisfactory but within the acceptable range(CFI=.786), and its power of simplicity and clarity was also adequate(PCFI=.733). In the current study, through the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses of scores from the Korean inventory of peer relationships circumplex scales, scales within the peer relationship circumplex model that are near each other and are highly correlated were confirmed to be grouped together as same factors. I believe the main merit of the study lies in the above result having provided the necessary foundation for forming the superordinate and representative scale that encompasses the eight circumplex scales, which enhances the test's interpretive usefulness.

        Review of Conductive Copper Paste for c-Si Solar Cells

        Abstract: In the photovoltaic industries, the main technique of metallization is screen printing with silver pastes, due to its simple and quick process. However, the high price of silver paste is one of the barriers to the producing of low cost solar cells. Consequently, a primary target in photovoltaic research is to reduce consumption of silver paste or substitute silver with other lower cost materials. As a proper candidate, copper has been extensively investigated for that purpose by many institutes and companies, since it is less expensive than silver with similar conductivity. The plating technique has been actively researched to apply copper as a contact for solar cells. However, copper paste, which was originally developed for integrated circuit applications, has been recently attracted attention. Initially, copper paste was applied for a low temperature annealing process since copper tends to oxidize easily. Recently, a firing type copper paste was also developed which involves coating of the copper particles with a barrier layer. This paper reviews recent developments of copper pastes for the application to solar cells, and its appropriate annealing conditions for better electrical properties. Also, the light I-V characteristics of copper paste on the solar cells reported in the literature are summarized. The 20.7% of the conversion efficiency of a PERT (passivated emitter and rear totally diffused) structure solar cell demonstrates the potential of copper paste as a promising future metallization material.         Measurement of extreme ultraviolet light and electron temperature for a dense plasmas from hypocycloidal pinch device

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We have generated Ar plasma in dense plasma focus (DPF) of hypocycloidal pinch (HCP) for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography and investigated an emitted visible light for electro-optical plasma diagnostics. We have applied an input voltage 4.5kV to the capacitor bank of 1.53uF, and Ar gas has been filled into a diode chamber. The EUV emission signal whose wavelength is about 6–16nm has been detected by using a photo-detector (AXUV-100 Zr/C, IRD). It has been found that the EUV intensity was decreased as the Ar pressure was increased. For measurement of the electron temperature in plasma pinch for HCP, we have measured the Ar spectrum lines for various Ar pressures with spectrometer (HR4000CG, Ocean Optics). If we assumed that the focused plasma regions satisfy the local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) conditions, the electron temperature of the hypocycloidal pinch could be obtained by Boltzmann plot method of optical emission spectroscopy (OES). The electron temperature has been approximately observed to be 2.6eV at the Ar pressure 1mTorr. The electron temperature and EUV intensity have been measured in accordance with the Ar pressures. It has been shown that the optimized Ar gas pressure is at 1mTorr for the intensive focused plasma.</P>

        A Review of the Literature on Culture-Negative Periprosthetic Joint Infection: Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Treatment

        Purpose: The prevalence of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) has increased with the increasing incidence of arthroplasty surgery. Considering identification of causative microorganisms is crucial for treatment of PJI, culture-negative (CN) PJI is a significant clinical issue. The purpose of the present study is to describe epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of CN PJI based on review of the literature to help prevent delayed diagnosis and improve clinical outcomes of CN PJI. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Scopus databases were searched for articles on CN PJI. Only clinical studies written in English were included. Basic science studies, letters to the editor, case reports and review articles on PJI were excluded. Results: Seven studies were included in this study. The prevalence of CN PJI ranged from 0% to 42.1%. The major risk factors for CN PJI were prior antibiotic use and presence of postoperative wound drainage. Vancomycin and cephalosporins were the most commonly used antibiotics for CN PJI. Two-stage revision arthroplasty followed by 6 weeks of antibiotic therapy produced the most successful treatment outcomes. Conclusions: In most clinical studies on CN PJI, a definite diagnostic method for identifying causative microorganisms or optimal treatment strategy for CN PJI were not clearly described. Therefore, further studies are needed to establish standard diagnostic methods for identifying infecting organisms and treatment strategies for CN PJI.

        Overexpression and Characterization of Recombinant Glutamate Decarboxylase from Thermococcus kodakaraensis KOD1

        Glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) (EC 4.1.1.15) catalyzes decarboxylation of glutamic acid to produce gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). A putative gad gene (tk1814) from an archaeon Thermococcus kodakaraensis KOD1 was cloned and transformed into Escherichia coli to produce a bulk amount of recombinant GAD. Activity of the purified GAD was optimal at $90^{\circ}C$ and pH 8.0. Optimal concentration of substrate for conversion into gamma-aminobutyric acid by recombinant GAD was 50 mM monosodium glutamate. Recombinant GAD was confirmed to be monomeric, and its activity was greatly inhibited by various salts such as sodium chloride, Tris-HCl, and sodium phosphate. $K_m$, $V_{max}$, and $K_{cat}$ values were 9.92 mM, 153.8 ${\mu}mol\;min^{-1}\;mg^{-1}$, and $6.613{\times}10^3\;min^{-1}$ respectively.
