To study the efficacy monoclonal antibody(MAb) against bovine rotavirus(BCV) in treatment of calf diarrhea, the MAb was fed to 166 calves with diarrhea from Chung-buk area. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Among the 1,049 calves investigated, 166(16%) calves were infected with BCV. 2. The monthly rate of BCV infection were higher in October to December compared with other months of the year. 3. Among the 166 calves with diarrhea, 137(83%) calves were recovered. 4. Young calves within 7-day-old were more effective in treatment than other ages and the rate of treatment was 86%. 5. Most effective period for treatment of rotavirus was at the first stage of infection.
Cystic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: A Case of Undergoing Endoscopic Thyroid Lobectomy

On ultrasonography, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) shows hypoechogenicity, an irregular margin, a predominantly solid composition, and microcalcifications, similar to those observed in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). MTC presenting as a cystic lesion is rare, and endoscopic thyroidectomy can be performed for benign thyroid masses and early stage PTC, however it is inappropriate for MTC regardless of cystic change. The authors report a case of cystic MTC found after endoscopic thyroid lobectomy and provide a review of the literature on this topic.

This paper aims to investigate Korean advanced L2 English learners’ strategies for ellipsis resolution during sentence processing. Ellipsis resolution is known to involve several stages of information processing from the initial step of detecting an ellipsis-licensing element by the parser to the final stage of integrating the ellipsis site with the information retrieved from the antecedent of the ellipsis site. In examining these steps, we have manipulated three factors: (i) TP vs. VP-ellipsis; (ii) two types of discourse coherence relations (resemblance(-contrast) vs. cause-effect relations); (iii) voice match vs. mismatch. We found through the ERP recordings that voice mismatch in TP ellipsis elicited N400, followed by P600, irrespective of discourse coherence relations. In contrast, voice mismatch in VP-ellipsis registered N400 only in resemblance(-contrast) relation, but not in cause-effect relation. These findings lead us to conclude that Korean advanced L2 learners of English seem to undergo the full sequence of processing stages required for ellipsis resolution.

Thin amorphous carbon film were deposited by Q Nd:YAG 532nm laser ablation from 99.7% graphite target with beam power density of 6x10 15 Wcm-2. In order to estimate the quality of the PLD(Pulsed Laser Deposition) film one of the most important optical properties, bandgap energy, was characterized by visible transmission and an optical bandgap energy of 2.05eV was achieved. Comparing our result with the published values in the literature we have confidence that our film shows the good quality at optical properties.

Action potential of a frog ventricular cell was studied by conventional 3M KCI glass microelectrodes to investigate the effect of freeze-dried Korean snake venom. Following results were obtained; 1. Time to repolarize 50% of its action potential increased from 756±26mS to 796±17mS. 2. The notch which would be seen after the fast depolarization disappeared and the overshoot potential significantly decreased from 24.4±0.9㎷ to 17.8±2.3㎷. 3. Positive depolarization rate (dV/dt max) decreased from 22.8±0.8V/s to 18.8±0.8V/s. 4. Resting membrane potential was -95±3.0㎷ and showed little change. Above results would be interpreted that the Korean snake venom blocked the fast sodium channel and slow calcium channel simultaneously to reduce the contractility and activation of potassium channel which could result the prolongation of action potential duration.
사회복지시설 아동에게 시리얼보충이 철분영양상태에 미치는 영향

To evaluate the effect of cereal supplementation on children's iron nutritional status of Korean institutionalized was designed. Dietary survey was carried out methods of food weighting in the breakfast or/and dinner, and record interview in lunch (n=74). A nutritional intervention study was carried out through supplementing cereal for 4 weeks in 24 children of 1 institution fro, 4 to 12 years. The children received 3.6mg elemental Fe(as 100g cereal) per day. Blood samples were drawn before and after supplementation. Nutrients which children's intakes was less than two-thirds of Korean RDA were Vit A, Vit B1, VIt B2, Ca and Fe. The mean daily intake of iron were 5.1mg for male and 4.9mg for female and 52.3% for male and 45.4% for female of Korean RDA. The proportions of children with iron depletion assessed by TIBC(>360mg/dl) and serum ferritin(<20ng/ml) were 56.6% and 58.7%, respectively. The proportions of children with the iron deficient erythropoiesis assessed by serum iron(<70ml/dl), Hb(<12g/dl), and Hct(<36%) were 76.0%, 58.7%, and 64.0%, respectively. After cereal supplementation, in anemic children, levels of Hct(p<0.001), serum iron(p<0.001) and transferrin saturation(p<0.001) were significantly increased. The effect of cereal supplementation in children with iron deficient erythropoeisis was more effective to improve the iron nutritional status than children with iron depletion. It was concluded that cereal supplementation program in anemic children was also effective to improve iron nutritional status.
