        연구윤리교육에 대한 생명과학 연구자들의 의견 및 요구

        This study was designed to examine the attitudes of biological scientists concerning research ethics education and the role of government agencies in promoting research ethics. An explanatory letter was sent via e-mail to the members of the Korean Society for Molecular and Cell Biology requesting participants to respond to an on-line questionnaire. Although most respondents claimed to be aware of the main issues in research ethics and the importance of research ethics education, 121 (or 69.1%) of the 175 participants experienced no formal training in research ethics education. The preferred formats for research ethics education among respondents included seminars at research institutes (98 respondents, 56.0%) or college courses at the undergraduate or graduate level (50, 28.6%) for less than 8 hours (117, 66.9%). Data processing and recording (122, 69.7%), authorship (109, 62.3%), and the management of research funds (105, 60.0%) were regarded as the most appropriate topics for education. Sixty-eight respondents (38.9%) reported some experiences with ethical dilemmas in conducting research and 135 (77.1%) showed interest in consulting an ombudsman if available. Chi-square analysis detected significant differences between principal investigators and other researchers concerning specific views on how research ethics education should be implemented in research institutes. To promote research integrity, respondents recommended that government agencies support research ethics education and construct an equitable, reliable, and transparent funding system for research. Jurisdiction and regulatory bodies to investigate research misconduct were also recommended.

        생명과학 전공 대학원생을 위한「연구윤리」강의사례 보고

        A research ethics course for students majoring in biology was developed and offered as an optional course for graduate students in the Department of Biology at Chonnam National University in the fall semester of 2005. The course was intended to serve as a pilot program for a larger research project to develop a research ethics course for students in the biomedical sciences. Among eleven students enrolled in the course, six were in the Master`s program and five were pursuing their doctoral degrees. Topics covered in the course included the following: being a biologist, career development, what to do in a graduate school, the lab community, mentor-mentee relationship, record keeping, data mining, scientific writing, authorship, scientific misconduct, conflicts of interests, research involving animals, human subjects, and the ethics of stem-cell research. For each topic, a general introduction was followed by problem-based discussions among students. All reading materials and cases to be discussed were posted on a web site prior to class. Students were required to read the material and express their opinions at an on-line forum before coming to each class. In the classroom, a pre-designated student would introduce and analyze the cases in order to facilitate discussion. Students actively participated in both the on-line and off-line discussions, especially when the topics were related to their first-hand experiences. The evaluation of the answers to the pre- and the post-course questionnaires showed that the students` perception of research ethics had changed in such a way that they paid greater attention to the issues of integrity in scientific research. While students were aware of the dominant ethical issues concerning research in biomedical science, before completing the course they were relatively unaware that ethical issues are raised by such things as mentor-mentee relationships and authorship criteria. The problem-based discussion process and the supplementary web-material were regarded positively by the students. In conclusion, as long as enough teaching materials and discussion cases are made available to teachers, a case-based discussion course with on-line supplements can help graduate students increase their ethical sensitivity toward issues of scientific integrity.

        Every field of studies form its theory through its universal method and own method based on respective views with its own culture and contributes to academic advancement with appropriate research methodology within theory. Therefore, If methology of oriental medicine is not include universal method and particularity method in research methology, it will not obtain scientific character and lose its logic. The methology of oriental medicine is classified by two approaches, universal methology of natural science which inspect the effect through experimentation on the fact, and particularity methology of human science which understand the effect through translation on the value(politics, economics, society, philosophy, history and culture). In this paper, the methodology of oriental medicine contains duality including both universality and particularity.

        림프순환 개선제 섭취가 여성의 신체 구성, 심혈관계 기능 및 혈중 지질에 미치는 영향

        This study investigated the effects of consumption of lymphatic circulation enhancer on the body composition, cardiovascular function, and blood lipid of healthy young women who engaged in regular physical activities. Body composition analysis, pulse wave velocity and augmentation index, and blood analysis were performed, and the results were compared between before and after taking the lymphatic circulation enhancer in 20 adult women. Two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance was performed to assess the mean difference between groups and periods, as post-analyses for statistically significant interaction effects. The results of these experiments included a significant interaction effect on bodyweight, in which a significant reduction in body weight was observed after consumption of the enhancer(p<.05). Blood lipid analysis showed a significant interaction effect only on high-density lipoproteins(HDL), in which a significant increase in HDL concentration was observed after consumption of the enhancer(p<.05). Changes in HDL levels were significantly negatively correlated with the triglyceride level(p<.05). The results of this study demonstrated that the consumption of lymphatic circulation enhancers for 10 weeks resulted in bodyweight reduction and increased blood HDL concentration.
