Objective ; This Study was carried out to review the history of acupuncture & moxibustion in Korea under the control of imperialized Japan and to compare the history among Korea, China and Japan. Results ; Under the control of imperialized Japan the science of acupuncture & moxibustion in Korea has experienced the dark ages because of the momentary disordered medical laws made by Japan. As we compare the history of acupuncture & moxibustion among Korea, China and Japan, Korea was simple but systemic, China was complicate but complex and Japan was nearly surgical. Conclusion ; The science of acupuncture & moxibustion of Korea was mostly advanced in the late Chosun and did not just imitate that of China and has advanced uniquely.

Our study has been made to evolve multiple linear regression equation for the prediction of VO₂max from all-out time(Run time) for incremental treadmill exercise and body mass index(BMI), The predictor variables have been selected by analyzing the stepwise multiple regression of height, weight, BMI and run time with VO₂max based on data collected on 145 male athletes(25. 4.0 years). It has been observed that the most high score of r-square was Run time of 0.723 and second was BMI of 0.036. Thus. Multiple linear regression equation with above two predictor variables (Run time & MBI) have been established to predict VO₂max. The equation was VO₂max= 【0.034183 × (Run time)】 【0.6195 × (BMI)】 + 41.074 (r=O.88,p<0.001) Comparing observed and estimated VO₂max values in a cross validation group(N=25) resulted in r=0.91, SEE=2.4㎖/㎏/min. The results indicated that all-out run time and BMI were a suitable parameters to predict VO₂max for male adult athletes.

목적 : 본 연구는 최근 임상에서 많이 사용하는 자하차(紫河車) 약침액(藥鍼液)이 과산화수소($H_2O_2$)로 야기된 송과선 세포의 apoptosis에 있어서 세포 보호에 미치는 영향과 그 기전을 분석하였다. 방법 및 결과 : MTT assay를 이용하여 분석한 결과 처리 시간 및 농도에 따른 세포 독성의 효과가 $H_2O_2$ 투여로부터 관찰되었다. 또한 자하거 약침액은 세포 증식 효과를 나타내었고 자하거 약침액을 전처치하고 $H_2O_2$를 처치하였을 때 세포 독성이 크게 감소되었다. DAPI staining에서 자하거 약침액 투여군은 $H_2O_2$ 투여군에 비해 fragmentation이 억제되었다. TUNEL assay를 통하여 자하거 약침액 투여군은 $H_2O_2$ 투여군에 비하여 TUNEL 양성세포의 발현이 감소되었다. Flow cytometry를 통하여 자하거 약침액 투여군은 $H_2O_2$ 투여군에 비하여 세포주기 중 sub G1 분획의 증가가 억제되었다. 결론 : 이상의 결과를 통하여 자하거 약침액이 $H_2O_2$로 유발된 apoptosis에서 세포보호 효과가 있음이 확인되었다.

Radioiodine therapy of differentiated thyroid cancer patient has been widely used for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic lesions after appropriate surgery. It requires thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) stimulation to facilitate radioiodine uptake into cancer tissue. Traditional TSH stimulation method is thyroid hormone withdrawal for certain period, but it causes overt hypothyroidism and rarely results in tumor progression. We here report four cases of abrupt aggravation of pre-exsting thyroid cancer during thyroid hormone withdrawal for preparation and eventually lead to death after radioiodine therapy.

N/A Purpose: KR-30035 (KR), a new MDR reversing agent, has been found to produce a similar degree of increased Tc-99m MIBI uptake in cultured tumor cells over-expressing mdr1 mRNA compared to verapamil (VP), with less cardiovascular effects. We assessed the MDR-reversing ability of KR in vivo, and effects of various doses of KR on MIBI uptake in nude mice bearing P-glycoprotein (P-gp) positive (+) and P-gp negative (-) human tumor xenografts. Methods: P-gp (+) HCT15/CL02 colorectal and P-gp (-) A549 non-small cell cancer cells were inoculated in each flank of 120 nude mice (20 mice x 6 groups). Group 1 (Grl) mice received 10mg/kg KR i.p. 3 times (x3) Gr2, 10mg/kg VP i.p. x3: Gr3, 10mg/kg KR i.p, x2 + 25mg/kg KR i.p. x1 Gr4, 10mg/kg KR i.p. x2 + 50mg/kg i.p. x1' Gr5, 10mg/kg KR i.p. x2 + 25mg/kg KR i.v. x1, GrC, controls. The mice were then injected with Tc-99m MIBI and sacrificed after 10 min, 30 min, 90 min and 240 min. Tumor uptake of MIBI (TU) in each group was compared. Results: TU in P-gp (+) and (-) tumors were both higher in Grl than Gr2. Washout rate between the 10 min and 4 hours was lower in Gr5 of P-gp (+) cell(0.93) than the control. Percentage increases in TU were higher in P-gp (+) than P-gp (-) tumors with all KR doses. Pgp (+) TU were highest at 10 min (173% of GrC) and persisted up to 240 min (144%) in Gr3. Larger doses of KR resulted in a lesser degree of increase in P-gp (+) TU at 10 min (130% in Gr4 and 117% in Gr5) and 30 min (178% 129%), but TU increased by time up to 240 min (177% 196%). Heart and lung uptakes were markedly increased in Gr4 and Gr5 at 10 and 30 min, likely due to cardiovascular effects. No mice died. Conclusion: These data further suggest that KR that has signiticantly lower cardiovascular toxicity than verapamil can be used as an active inhibitor of MDR. Even a relatively low dose of KR significantly increased Tc-99m MIBI uptake in P-gp (+) tumors in vivo. (Korean J Nucl Med 200135:168-184)

Background: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a sensitive and specific functional imaging tool that allows metabolic mapping of the disease process in humans. One of the disadvantages of 18F-FDG PET is poor anatomical discrimination in spite of several merits. In contrast, CT achieves excellent anatomical resolution, tissue differentiation and high imaging speed but offers little functional information. Combining PET and CT has the potential to improve local discrimination, increase specificity and reduce interpretative errors. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of PET/CT as a diagnosis or therapeutic response assessment tool in malignant melanoma patients. Methods: We performed whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT for evaluation of malignant melanoma in 20 patients. PET/CT scans were carried out before operations and/or after the chemotherapy period. Results: The patients had stages of T1N0M0 in 5 cases, T2N0M0 in 7 cases, T3N0M0 in 2 cases, T4N0M0 in 3cases, and T3N0M1, T4N3M1, and T4N2M0 in each of these cases. It was thought that PET/CT was significant in detecting regional lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis of malignant melanoma. In addition, FDG uptake in primary skin tumors tended to increase in proportion to depth of the primary skin tumors. Conclusion: Further prospective clinical trials will help clarify the optimal protocols for different clinical indications and therefore 18F-FDG PET/CT is a useful diagnostic and prognostic tool in the management of malignant melanoma. For brain perfusion SPECT imaging, Tc-99m-HMPAO and Tc-99m-ECD are commonly used. Although these two tracers usually show similar distribution, it is well known that discrepant finding might be noted between Tc-99m-HMPAO and Tc-99m-ECD imaging in some conditions. Luxury perfusion(perfusion/metabolism mismatch) is one of the examples and could be observed in subacute cerebral infarction. We report a case of subacute cerebral infarction that revealed luxury perfusion. Increased perfusion was found in Tc-99m-HMPAO SPECT and perfusion defect was found in Tc-99m-ECD SPECT. We found 1arge area of mismatch with a consecutive acquisition-subtraction method. Crossed cerebellar diaschisis was observed in both SPECT images.
