        A very large semi-submersible drilling unit has been designed and fabricated in DSME shipyard. In mid-2004 year, it has been delivered to Gulf of Mexico. After its topside module integration and commissioning are completed, the unit is operated for oil and gas production during 25 years at Thunder Horse field. In this study, hydrodynamic analysis, load response analysis and global strength analysis using DNV SESAM program were performed for structural safety verification of the unit under 100-year extreme condition. Using stochastic approach and design wave method, critical design waves were selected in accordance with nine critical load responses. Quasi-static global strength assessment was carried out for a beam structure model and a shell structure model, respectively. The analysis results show the safe stress levels within the allowable stress limit in view of yielding and buckling criteria. Compared with analysis results given by other engineering company, the results show a good agreement.
