This paper is to develope a new methodology for reduction of GHG emission by enhancement of Overall Equipment Effectiveness which is one of the measures of equipment or system performance based on its actual availability, performance rate and quality rate. At the present time, there are 14 reduction methodologies certified by Government within the framework of Korea Voluntary Emission Reduction(KVER) which was benchmarked by Clean Development Mechanism. None of them seems to promote mitigation or reduction of GHG, resulting from increase of productivity or effectiveness of equipment or production processes. For the purpose of a new methodology, this paper also tries to demonstrate the relationship between OEE and production quantity and reduction of energy consumption per unit quantity. One of the objectives of the paper proposes that TPM and GHG are closely related to improve the productivity of equipment as well as to prevent climate change.

This paper is trying to apply TPM (total productive maintenance) to national competency standards for its useful implementation for the plants and manufacturing sector in Korea. TPM has been widely and effectively being utilized by various sectors such as electrical and electronic industries, car industry, machine and chemical industry, etc. as well. At the same time, some of case studies show that this was refused by machine shops, or by top managers. It has been known that top manager sometimes confuses the definition and framework of TPM and technical personnels of the middle management group lack the maintenance technology required as well as the vision of their future job. As such, this paper proposes NCS of TPM. It usually includes from 6 to 10 pillars among which 9 pillars are selected as competency units in this paper. Each competency unit has its job description and several elements. This paper also suggests that more developed and advanced job description including competency unit, its elements, performance criteria and ranges of variables will be required. Future researches also should provide knowledge, skills and attitude for more efficient practice of TPM.

N/A The alternative of the implementation of 6 sigma is the enhancement of the quality level of the firm to such degree as 6 sigma level based upon the current level which reflects customers satisfaction of products or services Many firms are trying to implement 6 sigma by a project basis which, sometimes results to inconsistency with the managerial objectives of the firm. Under the such circumstances, the successful implementation of 6 sigma depends on the features of the project selected. This paper proposes a model to the efficient project selection based on Total Productivity. This method is an alternative to the CTQ(critical to quality), which has been found sometimes to be inconsistent to managerial objective. This paper constructs a process model for project selection, finding out strategies which are consistent to managerial objectives, and a process of the establishment of strategy to 6 sigma planning. Finally, this paper shows the application of the new model to a firm and test its validity, and finds that 71 method is more efficient than CTQ method.
