This paper presents full-scale test results on cyclic behavior of a modular building system which uses new cold-formed steel sections. Seismic and wind performance was a main concern in this testing program. Evaluation of the lateral stiffness, strength, deformation and failure modes for principal directions of the structures was conducted. The tying plates method proposed in this study was shown to be very effective in increasing the lateral stiffness and strength of multi-story modular system. Test results also indicated that 3 story modular structures can satisfy both seismic and wind performance requirements according to KBC 2005. The calibrated lateral story drift formula for the tied multi-story structures was also recommended for practical design application.
