The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of particle size of the graphites on the friction characteristics in brake pads. Test pieces are manufactured in organic pads by the hot press method and observed the high temperature performance by the scale tester. COF of T2 is higher than that of others and Braking temperature of T2 is lower. In disc roughness, T4 is lower than that of others.

the purpose of this paper is to investigate the friction characteristics according to surface processing methods of disc rotors. To avoid the trial and error method and find easily the main factor which contributes friction characteristics, taguchi method is employed to analyze test results. It is used taguchi L8(2<SUP>**</SUP>7) orthogonal matrix and evauated friction characteristics by scale tester.. By adapting taguci method, it is easy to investigate the influence of each factor in disc rotors. After analyzing the test results, the effect of factors and levels influenced friction characteristics is studied.

The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of heat treatment conditions of discs on braking performance of brake pad. The test discs are manufactured to apply different heat treatment conditions. And friction materials for racing (Semi-Metallic type) are used as a counter material. It is observed physical properties and friction performance as thermal conductivity, hardness, tensile strength, coefficient of friction, fade, wear etc. The experimental results shown that coefficient of friction of the heat-treated discs are higher than the unheat-treated disc.

the purpose of this paper is to study the effect of morphology of potassium titanates on the friction characteristics in the NAO(Non Asbestos Organic) brake pad. 3 potassium titanates are selected and test pieces are manufactured by hot press forming. It is observed physical properties and friction performance as density, hardness, average coefficient of friction, fade, wear etc. In fade, the coefficient of friction of non fiberous potassium titanates is more stable than that of fiberous potassium titanate. In wear and disc roughness, fiberous potassium titanate is better than non fiberous potassium titanates.

In fade, the coefficient of friction of the unheat-treated disc is higher than that of heat-treated discs because of lower braking temperature.
