The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of long distance running on the level of gastrointestinal hormones such as gastrin which stimulates the secretion of gastric acid, insulin and glucagon which affect glucose metabolism as well as the level of glucose. Method: Twenty four long distance runners (male 16, female 8) participated in this study. Studies were performed after an overnight fasting. The levels of gastrin, insulin, glucagon, and glucose in blood were measured at 30min before and after exercise, and then they were measured again at 24 hr after 10 km race. Result: Plasma gastrin level was increased immediately after exercise (p<0.05), while no significant changes were observed before and after 24 hours of exercise. Plasma insulin level was decreased immediately after exercise (p<0.05). Plasma glucagon level was elevated immediately after exercise (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the level of plasma glucose level during the study period. Conclusion: These results indicate that the elevated level of gastrin in long distance runner may be involved in acid-related gastrointestinal disease. The changes of insulin and glucagon levels may represent the constant blood glucose level and further imply the fine regulatory mechanism of glucose homeostasis in blood during short time exercise in long distance runners.
신경 전기 자극과 등척성 운동이 대퇴사두근력에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of both neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and isometrical exercise (IE) to strengthen the quadriceps femoris muscle. The relationships between the strength changes and the relative force and duration of training contractions were also studied. The subjects were divided into three group. The control group (n=6) received no exercise and/or stimulation. The isometric exercise(IE) group (n=6) performed maximum isometric contractions, and the neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES)(n=6) engaged electrically stimulated isometric contractions, three days a week for four weeks. Data were analysed using a repeated measured analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine differences among treatments. Where ANOVA revealed a significant difference. a Duncan post test was administered to locate difference. Significance was accepted when p<.05. All data are presented as the mean±SD. Results showed that both IE group and NMES group were found to have an increase in strength significantly greater (p<0.05) than the control group at 4 week. But between IE group and NMES group were not found to have an difference in strength significantly. The relative increase in isometric strength, using IE and NMES, may be determined by the ability of the subjects to tolerate longer and more forceful contractions. Suggestions for further research and implications for the clinical of IE and NMES for strength-training are discussed.
흰쥐 후지근 피판에서 허혈-재순환 손상시 pERK1/2 발현에 대한 ${\alpha}-lipoic$ Acid의 효과

Purpose: This study was to evaluate the effect of ${\alpha}-lipoic$ acid, a potent free radical scavenger, on the expression of active form of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (pERK1/2) proteins from hindlimb muscles of rats following ischemia-reperfusion injury. Material and methods: 64 health, $280{\sim}350\;g$ weighted Sprague-Dawley male rats were used. In order to make a muscle flap, the gastrocnemius (GC) and soleus (SOL) muscles were dissected and elevated. The popliteal artery was occluded for 4hours and reperfused for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and 4 hours, respectively. Results: The ischemia by occlusion of the popliteal artery itself caused a minimal change in expression of phosphorylated form of proteins observed in hindlimb muscle. In contrast, after 4 hours of ischemia, immunoreactivity for pERK1/2 in the GC muscle showed dual peaks at 10 minutes and 4 hours after reperfusion. In ${\alpha}-lipoic$ acid treated group, the expression of pERK1/2 was increased significantly compared to I/R-only group. Conclusion: These results suggest that ${\alpha}-lipoic$ acid may protect I/R injury of the skeletal muscle through free radical scavening and activation of intracellular pERK1/2 expression.
직장건강증진프로그램이 근로자들의 건강 체력 및 혈청지질에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study was to exam the effect of shift-workers` Workplace health promotion for health strength and blood, and to verify need of Workplace health promotion. The program was being tested on 39 male workers without physical defect for 12 weeks. They were divided into 3 groups, Group Exercise(GE), Personal Exercise(PE) who used gym of outside company, Control group(CG). Statistics system was practiced of two way repeated measured ANOVA by repeated measurement and a significant level was set up as .05. As a result of this research, BMI, VO2 max, Sitting Trunk Flextion of GE were improved significantly (P<.05), Sit up and Back muscular strength of GE and PE were improved significantly (P<.05). Also in lipid profiles, TC, HPL, LDL, TG of GE were improved significantly(P<.05). That is, Workplace health promotion for shift-workers could improve health strength and lipid profiles of workers.
