This paper presents structural analysis of 52 meter-high ladder structure for fire protection using a commercial structural finite element program. Displacements and stresses by the ladder weight itself and the external load are calculated using the ANSYS program. Comparing analysis results of two basic structures using LINK element and BEAM element, the effect of bending stress is estimated. It is shown that the maximum tensile stress of 25.4 kgf/mm2 and the maximum compressive stress of -27.5 kgf/mm2 is too high to secure the safety of the high ladder structure loading the ladder weight of 5.2 tons and the applied load of 300 kgf. Based on the results of the analysis, modification of design is performed to reduce the level of maximum stress. By changing the thickness of the channel member locating near the hydraulic jack, the stress level is reduced below the allowable stress.
