Dynamic stability of a rotary oscillating cantilever beam is presented in this study. Using the stretch deformation instead of the conventional axial deformation, three linear partial differential equations are derived from Hamilton's principle and transformed into dimensionless forms. Stability diagrams of the first order approximate solutions are obtained by using the multiple scale perturbation method. The stability diagrams show that relatively large unstable regions exist near the combination of the first chordwise bending natural frequency and the first stretch natural frequency. This result is verified by using the generalized -$\alpha$ method.

Dynamic behaviors and stability of an optical disk drive coupled with an automatic ball balancer (ABB) are analyzed by a theoretical approach. The feeding system is modeled a rigid body with six degree-of-freedom. Using Lagrange's equation, we derive the nonlinear equations of motion for a non -autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of the equilibrium positions, the monodromy matrix technique is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by the Runge -Kutta method. We also investigate the effects of the damping coefficient and the position of ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.

This paper presents the reduction of acoustic noise generated by electromagnetic force in an induction motor of the electrical forklift. After summarizing the electromagnetic excitation forces due to the interaction between the stator/rotor slot permeance and the stator winding magnetomotive force, the effects of the electromagnetic force on the noise and vibration of an induction motor are analyzed. In order to experimentally identify the noise sources of the motor, the signal analyses for noise and vibration are performed by using waterfall plots of noise and vibration spectrums. It is found that severe noise and vibration are caused by the electromagnetic force when the mode number of the excitation shape for a stator is low. Furthermore, it is verified that the motor noise is amplified if the excitation frequency of the electromagnetic force coincides with one of the natural frequencies of the stator. It is experimentally demonstrated that this severe noise can be considerably reduced by structure modifications. Finally, some design guidelines are suggested to develop an induction motor with a low level of noise.

The dynamic responses of both the in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations are investigated for an axially moving membrane. The equations of motion are derived for the moving membrane with no-slip boundary conditions by using the extended Hamilton principle. Based on the Galerkin method, the discretized equations of motion are derived. The generalized-time integration method is applied to compute the dynamic responses for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions. From the computed results, the responses are compared between the in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations. Furthermore. the effects of velocity and acceleration on the dynamic behaviours for displacements and stresses are presented.

In this study, the dynamic analysis of a beam is analyzed by using the finite element method when the beam has moving mass and axial load. To consider the contact force between the moving mass and beam, coupled nonlinear equations of contact dynamics are derived, and then the weak form for the finite element method is established. The finite element computer programs based on the Lagrange multiplier method are developed to compute the contact force. Furthermore, a variety of simulations are performed for various design parameters such as moving mass velocity, compressive axial load and tension load. Finally, relations between the dynamic response and contact force are also discussed.

Dynamic characteristics of a wrist power transmission of an industrial robot are studied. The wrist power transmission has complex structure characteristics, because it is composed with several shafts and gear system. We used an analytical method to investigate the dynamic characteristics. An analytical model is a rigid model which is composed with masses and springs. Both bearing and gear contact model represent equivalent stiffness springs which are determined by the experiment. In order to investigate the dynamic tendency of the robot wrist power transmission, we simulate the analytical model. There is a dynamic analysis tool which is called the RecurDyn. To verify the analytic results, we experiment a signal analysis which is an overall noise level of the robot. By the parametric study of the element of the robot, we study an improvement method of dynamic characteristics.
