Blood pressure is the easiest and most frequently measured cardiovascular health indicator. The indicators used when measuring blood pressure are systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), but the blood pressure waveform contains the most health status of the patient. The blood pressure waveform is formed by constructive interference between the forward wave and the reflected wave, and depends on the arrival time and size of the reflected wave. The arrival time of the reflected wave is determined by the pulse wave velocity (PWV), which is determined by important cardiovascular health indicators such as the elasticity of blood vessels. However, PWV is affected by various factors such as thickness, internal diameter, obesity, age, and drugs as well as elasticity of PWV blood vessels, and it is impossible to collect and analyze controlled clinical data. In this study, a cardiovascular simulator and artificial blood vessels with various stiffness were fabricated, and as a result, changes in PWV and blood vessel waveforms according to vessel elasticity were reproduced. This study can be extended to inverse estimation of cardiovascular parameters from blood pressure waveforms and to identify the origin of blood pressure.
바이오에어로졸 저감을 위한 가시광활성 항바이오 에어필터 연구

Public health continues to be threatened by bioaerosols. Herein, we introduce visible-light-activated (VLA) antimicrobial air filters for reducing and inactivation of bioaerosols. The VLA photosensitive organic dye (e.g., crystal violet) were stably immobilized using the silica/alumina sol-gel coating method. The coated air filters showed excellent antimicrobial activity against both bacteria and viruses under visible-light exposure conditions (>99.9%), especially in natural light (>99.99%). In addition, the VLA antimicrobial mechanisms were identified by quantifying the generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) through biochemical analysis.
