The spectrophotometric determination of $Lu^{3+},\;Eu^{3+}$ and some other rare earths have been investigated using Methyl Thymol Blue(MTB) as spectrophotometric reagent. Rare earth elements form a stable complex with MTB abount pH 6.5 and the ratio of its complex is 1 to 1. MTB has a absorption maxima at 440nm and rare earth MTB complex has absorption maxima 610nm at pH 6.5, respectively. The absorbance of the rare earth MTB complex is stable in 7 hours after color developing and obey the Beer law in the range of $0{\sim}110{\mu}g/50ml$. The ligand such as phosphate, citrate and EDTA decrease the absorbance of its complex considerably, and this method has a poor selectivity of each rare earth element and the molar absorptivity is $1.2{\sim}2.0{\times}10^4mol^{-1}{\cdot}l{\cdot}cm^{-1}$. In methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol and acetone medium we did not find out any absorption change of the rare earth MTB complex. Methyl Thymol Blue(MTB) 발색시약을 사용하여 $Lu^{3+},\;Eu^{3+},\;Sm^{3+}$ 및 $Pr^{3+}$ 원소의 흡수분광광도법에 의한 정량법을 확립하였다. ligand와 금속의 몰비는 1:1이었으며 Hexamethylenetetramine 완충용액으로 pH 6.5로 만들었을 때 MTB의 최대흡수파장은 440 nm이며 희토류-MTB 착물의 최대흡수파장은 610 nm로 나타났고 용액의 흡광도는 발색 후 7시간 정도까지 일정한 흡광도를 나타내며 $0{\sim}110{\mu}g/50ml$의 범위에서 Beer의 법칙에 따른다. phosphate, EDTA, citrate같은 리간드이온들은 희토류 -MTB의 흡광도에 크게 영향을 주며 각각의 희토류 원소분석의 선택성은 없다. 메틸알코올, 에틸알코올 및 아세톤 용매에서도 희토류-MTB 용액의 흡광도는 변하지 않았다. 몰흡광계수는 $1.2{\sim}2.0{\times}10^4mol^{-1}{\cdot}l{\cdot}cm^{-1}$이다.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a relatively uncommon hematological disorder, charactedzed by cytopenia in the peripheral blood and normo-or hypercellularity in the bone marrow with morphological dysplastic change. Ineffective hematopoiesis leads to hematological failures in this syndrome. MDS is largeIy affected in older individuaIs with a median age of 60-75. It's association with pregnancy is even rarer. Although the exact incidence of MDS in pregancy is unknown, it is likely to be less than 1 per 100,000 pregnancies annually. Recently, we experienced a case of MDS presented initially during pregnancy in a 34-year-old primipara and managed with intensive hematologic support. Uerine rupture occurred in pregnancy complicated with MDS at 34 gestation weeks and a healthy infant was successfully delivered by Cesarean section. We report this case with a brief review of the literature.

N/A Objective : This study investigated changes of voice and hearing in premenopausal and postmenopausal woman Methods : We studied forty postmenopausal and forty premenopausal women. Each women was asked to describe their subjective vocal symptoms and phonate a vowel /a/ sound for 3 seconds. The phonated sound in each case was recorded and analysed by the computerized speech lab (LSL 4300B, KAY Elemetrics Corp. USA). We also conducted audiometric pure-tone threshold testing on the same group. Statistical analysis of voice and hearing parameters was done by paired T test Results : Jitter in menopausal group was significantly increased compared with premenopausal group, but other voice parameters showed no significant differences. There were no significant changes of vocal parameters between menopausal patients with or without vocal symptoms. And there were no significant changes of hearing parameters, either Conclusion : The change of voice parameters was objectively identified in menopausal women, and so therapist of menopausal symptoms must take the voice changes into consideration.

Heterotopic pregnancy, simultaneous intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy, is an extremely rare case. The incidence of heterotopic pregnancy was about 1 to 30,000 pregnancy, but it has been increased. Ectopic pregnancy is associated with significant mortality if not promptly diagnosed. Careful pelvic examination combined serial β-hCG determinations and transvaginal sonography to evaluation the adnexal region are necessary prerequisites for early diagnosis. We report a case of discovery of heterotopic pregnancy after elective abortion with brief review of literature.

Pheochromocytoma during pregnancy is very rare tumor, and this condition is life threatening to both mother and fetus. We describe a case of pheochromocytoma antenatally diagnosed at the midtrimester in gestation. A patient was transferred to National Medical Center during gestational week 24 with severe hypertension, generalized edema. Pheochromocytoma caused by a left adrenal mass was diagnosed. The patient was treated with titrated dose of phenoxybenzamine, propranolol, and intravenous nicardipine, but, intermittent severe hypertension was developed. At 33 weeks gestation, fetal distress was developed, and emergent c-sec was done. Two weeks after delivery, she underwent a successful left adrenalectomy. Two months after surgery, all antihypertensive medications were discontinued and her blood pressure have remained normal range.
폐경여성에서 자궁탈출증과 골다공증의 연관성에 관한 연구

목적 : 나이가 들어감에 따라 뼈와 피부조직의 주요 구성 성분인 교원질의 농도는 감소한다. 본 연구는 자궁탈출증 환자의 골밀도를 측정, 분석하여 골다공증과의 연관성에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 1999년 1월부터 2000년 4월까지 폐경여성에서 자궁탈출증을 진단받은 63명을 대상으로 이중에너지 흡수계측기를 이용하여 요추부 골밀도를 측정, 분석하였다. 결과 : 자궁탈출증 환자의 평균 골밀도는 0.757±0.113이었고, 대조군의 0.871±0.132에 비해 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다(p$lt;0.05). 자궁탈출 정도에 따른 골밀도는 자궁탈출이 심할수록 감소하였으나 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다. 결론 : 폐경여성 중 자궁탈출증 환자는 건강한 폐경여성에 비해 골다공증에 의한 골절의 위험도가 증가할것으로 생각되며, 골다공증의 예방과 치료에 적극적인 노력이 필요할 것으로 생각된다. Objective : To investigate the relationship between uterine prolapse and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Methods : We performed the retrospective study for 63 postmenopausal uterine prolapse patients and 45 healthy menopausal women who didn't take any hormonal and calcium agents before measuring bone mineral density(BMD). Lumbar spine was measured using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry(DEXA, Lunar Co.). Results : The mean age of the study subjects was 61.2±6.2 years and mean duration of menopause was 12.3±4.3years, and they are no significant differences with control group. The parity was significant differnce in two groups, the former was 3.7±1.4, the latter was 2.1±1.3. There was significant difference in BMD, the study group was 0.757±0.113, and the control group was 0.871±0.132. The mean BMD of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree of uterine prolapse was 0.771g/cm2, 0.762g/cm2, and 0.754g/cm2, respectively. Conclusion : This study established the BMD in postmenopausal uterine prolapse patients compared with healthy menopausal women. The uterine prolapse patients were lower bone mineral density than control group, so the risk of osteoporotic fracture is high in postmenopausal uterine prolapse patients. Therefore, we need active interventions for preventing the osteoporotic fracture in these patients.
