The two-color method was employed to analysis the temperature and KL distribution from the luminous flames containing soot in diesel engine by<br/> measuring the flame image through two different wavelengths. The characteristics of the two-color method were investigated by the analytical verification and the graph method. It was discussed that some of measurements fell in the domain where the solution does not exist.<br/>

It is expected that the diesel vehicle market will gradually grow up because of better fuel economy and low CO₂ emission. The national projects have already been performed for the preparation of 3 liter car, which uses 3 liter fuel per 100km driving distance, for instance, PNGV program in USA and 3L program(C02perate project) in Europe. However in spite of this valuable opportunity, diesel engine is required the proper measure for the reduction of PM and NOx emissions as the same level as gasoline engine.<br/> Diesel Particulate filter trap is considered the best technology against the PM emission, and some technologies, such as SCR, DeNOx catalyst and NOx trap, are being developed for the measure of NOx emission.<br/> Catalytic type DPF, such as CRT from John Matthey and DPX from Engelhard, are already proven applicable to the heavy duty diesel engine, which will be commercialized by 2005 in Europe. NOx catalyst is expected to be applied in diesel engines by 2008.

Three retrofitted fleets are examined to understand possibility of application of a passive type DPF and the factors that are considered to improve its performance. Smoke test was achieved and back pressure and temperature was analysed every week, in order to check the operating condition and failure of the DPF systems. With the averaged pressure of the foregoing part of DPF, its operating condition can be monitored effectively and pressure level in that the DPF work normal operation was understood. In the present study, process of analysis, instrumentation and data logging on retrofitted fleets was improved. And the factors e.g. season temperature and engine condition that can affect the DPF operating were founded. The result of this study is expected to be useful reference to passive type DPF test.
중형엔진에 적용되는 전기히터/촉매 복합 재생방식 매연여과장치의 성능에 관한 연구

The passively regenerated DPF systems applied to midium duty diesel engines usually do not properly work due to the low exhaust gas temperature. This study shows the performance of an electrical heated CDPF system for a midium duty Diesel engine. The electrical heated CDPF system showed PM conversion efficiency of 96% during DN-13 mode and it's BPT ranged from 330 to 350℃ depending on the engine speeds. The electrical current supplied to the heater was determined by the capacity of the engine alternator at each engine operating condition. The electrically heated CDPF system in this study showed favorable back pressure characteristics during the test mode which simulated city driving conditions.
