Vol.27 No.2

This study was taken to observe the changes of the residual stress in the alloy and to measure 3 dimensional distortions of the long span ceramo-metal bridge. The materials used in this study were Pors-on 4 (Pd-Ag alloy), and Ceramco and Vita VMK 68 powders. The residual stress of the alloy was measured on the six specimens (dia. 8m/m) by the X-ray diffraction stress analyzer according to the kind of ceramic powder and different measuring stages. And, for the measurement of the distortions, fifteen specimens of the anterior 8-unit ceramo-metal brige were fabricated and subjected to the 3-D coordinate measuring machine. Variables included the 2 kinds of a ceramic powder and the presence or absence of a splint bar at the cast metal framework. The measuring stages in both were after casting, after degassing and after glazing. The following conclusions were obtained : 1. The residual stress of the alloy showed increasing tendency for the tension by the ceramic fusing, but there was not significance. 2. The tendency of the distortions in the cast metal frameworks were decrease of the width, the anterior displacement and sagging. 3. The amount of the distortions at the degassing stage were greater than that at the ceramic fusing stage. 4. The splint bar was effective to control the distortion only at ceramic fusing stage. 5. The sagging distortion in the Ceramco firing were even through all measuring stages, but in the Vita firing, pronounced at degassing stage.

Vol.35 No.3

In order to compare the accuracy of impression technique using the addition silicone putty and improved heavy body material, impression were taken for the natural 6 maxillary anterior teeth, and for the metal mast model that has full arch shape with 4 cylindrical abutment teeth. Marginal gingiva was retracted by routine method using retraction cord, and two techniques were tried to compare the length of impression materials in the gingival sulcus. This was aimed to see the effect of viscosity and hydraulic pressure of impression materials for the subgingival impression. Impressions for the full arch-shaped metal master model were taken to compare the linear stability of the different impression materials and their related techniques. The conclusions were as belows : 1. The one-step impression technique showed longer extension of impression material in gingival sulcus than two-step impression technique. 2. High viscosity and hydraulic pressure of impression material were useful to take subgingival impression. 3. There was no statistically significant difference for the two-dimensional accuracy of impression technique, but two-step technique showed better trend than one-step technique.

Vol.29 No.3

The Purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of ceramo-metal crown according to the different ceramo-metal alloy types and the curvature of labio-cervical margin. Degudent $G^{(R)}$ as precious and $Verabond^{(R)}$ as non-precious ceramo-metal alloy were used. The abutment was preparaed with two different curvature types : a normal curvature type and a pronounced curvature type. 20 crowns were farbricated using four different combinations and their marginal fits were measured at 3 consecutive stages (before degassing, after degassing, after glazing) using microscope under 200 magnification. The results were as follows: 1 . Marginal fitness before degassing. The groups of precious ceramo-metal exhibited better marginal fit than the groups of non-precious ceramo-metal with significant difference(P<0.05) . In the same ceramo-metal groups, the normal curvature group exhibited better marginal fit than the pronounced curvature group but without significant difference(P>0.05). 2. Marginal fitness after degassing. By degassing, the group of pronounced curvature and non-precious ceramo-metal was deformed the most, and the degree of margin fitness of each group was the same as before degassing. 3. Marginal fitness after glazing The group of normal curvature and precious ceramo-metal exhibited better marginal fit than the group of pronounced curvature and non-precious ceramo-metal with significant difference(P>0.05), and the degree of margin fitness of each group was the same as before degassing.

Vol.35 No.1

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shock absorbing effect of 4 restorative materials and intramobile connector. The damping effect of four restorative materials used to veneer test crown rigidly connected to IMZ implant and subjected to an impact force was measured. These materials included a gold alloy(stabilor G) : a noble metal ceramic alloy(Degudent H) : porcelain(Duceram) : composite resin(Dentacolor). In addition, this study compared damping effect of same restoretive materials after using polyoxymethylene intramobile connector(POM IMC). The result of this study suggest that : In case of using metal IMC 1. Veneered composite resin(group IV) reduced the impact force by 75%, when compared to an equivalent thickness of porcelain(group III). Group IV reduced the impact force by 87% and 89%, respectively, when compared to Stabilor G(group I) and Degudent H(group II). 2. The impact force recorded was higher for the alloy with the higher elastic modulus.(Stabilor G, group I, Young's modulus 107 Gpa, versus Degudent H, Group II, Young's modulus 95 Gpa) 3. It took the longest time for composite resin veneered group(IV) to reach to peak force when compared group I, II, III. In case of using POM IMC 4. The mean impact force recorded were reduced by 79%(group I), 78%(group II), 69%(group III), 84%(group IV), respectively, when compared to using metal IMC. 5. The time required to reach the peak force were increased by 78%(group I, II) 87%(group III), 34%(group IV), respectively, when compared to using metal IMC>.

Statement of problem: It is not clear how to make a stable bonding between zirconia ceramic and resin cement. And the study about surface treatment of zirconia ceramic or bonding resin cement are not enough. Purpose: To measure and compare the shear bond strength of some resin cements on zirconia ceramic after different surface treatments. Material and method: 48 ceramic discs were made of 3 ceramic materials, zirconia ceramics (Zi-Ceram), heat-pressed ceramics (IPS Empress 2) and slip cast alumina ceramics (In-Ceram). According to the surface treatments of ceramic specimens and resin cements, specimens were classified into 6 groups and each group was composed of 8 specimens. For the surface treatment of Zi-Ceram group (test group), sandblasting and diamond bur preparation were applied and Superbond C&B and Panavia F were bonded respectively. For IPS Empress 2 group (control group), Variolink II was bonded after sandblasting, acid etching, silanization and for In-Ceram ALUMINA group (control group), Panavia F was bonded after sandblasting. After storing specimens in distilled water for 24 hours, the shear bond strength was measured by the universal testing machine. Results and conclusion: 1. Zi-Ceram group with Superbond C&B cement showed higher bond strength than with Panavia F cement regardless to the surface treatments (p<0.05). 2. In Zi-Ceram group with Superbond C&B cement, sandblasting treatment group (12.1MPa) showed higher bond strength than diamond bur treatment group (7.7MPa) (p<0.05). In Zi-Ceram group with Panavia F cement, there were no significant differences in the bond strength according to the surface treatments (p>0.05). 3. Zi-Ceram group with sandblasting and Superbond C&B cement (12.1MPa) showed the highest bond strength. The bond strength of this group was not significantly different from In-Ceram ALUMINA group (10.4MPa) (p>0.05) and lower than IPS Empress 2 group (15.9MPa) (p<0.05).

The purpose of this study is to investigate which current densities and etching times will result in an optimal etching depth and surface roughness when an Ni-Cr-Be alloy is etched with 30% perchloric acid($HClO_4$). For this study, observations were made by means of an optical three-dimensional surface roughness measuring machine and a scanning electron microscope. The etchings took place under the following conditions using current densities of $300mA/cm^2\;450mA/cm^2,\;600mA/cm^2$ and $750mA/cm^2$, and using etching time of three, five, six, seven and nine minutes. Under the conditions, the experiments reached the following conclusions. 1. When the current density is above $450mA/cm^2$ and the etching time is longer than five minutes, the etching depth increased as the current density and etching time increased. And the surface roughness was significantly influenced by the interaction of the current density and etching time. 2. Under the etching conditions of $600mA/cm^2$ and five minutes, the optimal etching depth for a resin cement space and the highest surface roughness for mechanical retention were obtained. The etching depth and surface roughness were $32.86{\mu}m$ and $7.90{\mu}m$, respectively. 3. Observations under the scanning electron microscope showed that both the corrosion at the grain boundary and the corrosion within the grain occurred on the etched surface. It was also observed that the corrosion at the grain boundary became more severe as the current density and etching time increased. In addition. at higher current densities and longer etching times general corrosion appeared.

Vol.42 No.5

Statement of problem: The use of zirconia prostheses fabricated with CAD/CAM system is on an increasing trend in dentistry. However, evaluation of the fit related to internal relief and marginal reproducibility of zirconia has not been reported. Purpose : This study was to evaluate the fit related to internal relief and marginal reproducibility of zirconia core fabricated with CAD/CAM system. Materials and methods: The evaluation was based on 30 zirconia cores and 5 IPS-Empress2 cores. Zirconia cores were fabricated in different conditions of internal relief(0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and $50{\mu}m$), and IPS-Empress2 cores were fabricated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Before cementation, the marginal discrepancies or cores were measured on metal die. And then, each core was cemented to stone die, embedded in an acrylic resin and sectioned in two planes(mesiodistally and labiopalatally). The internal gaps were measured at the margin and axial surface. Measurements for the marginal discrepancies, the internal marginal gaps and the internal axial gaps were performed under a measuring microscope(Compact measuring microscope STM5; Olympus, Japan) at a magnification of ${\times}100$. In addition, the marginal conagurations of metal die, zirconia core and IPS-Empress2 core were examined with SEM(S-2700, Hitachi, Japan). Results : Within the limits of this study the results were as follows. 1. Compared with IPS-Empress2 cores, the marginal discrepancies of zirconia cores had no significant differences. the internal marginal gaps were statistically smaller and the internal axial gaps were statistically larger in each condition of internal relief. 2. The marginal discrepancies and the internal marginal gaps of zirconia cores had no significant differences related to the conditions of internal relief(P>0.05). 3. The internal axial gaps of zirconia cores with $0{\sim}20{\mu}$m for internal relief were significantly larger than that with $50{\mu}m$ (P<(0.0001). 4. SEM micrographs showed favorable marginal reproducibility of zirconia core and smooth texture on the milling surface. Conclusion: The marginal discrepancy and the internal gaps of zirconia core were clinically acceptable and the milling surface was showed smooth texture. For fabrication of the durable esthetic restoration, further investigations on complex design of core, milling accuracy, compatability of enamel porcelain and porcelain firing seems to be needed.
