Geniposide, an iridoid glucoside, was isolated from the cortex of Eucommia ulmoides by repealed silica gel chromography and identified by its spectral data. The quantitative determination of geniposide with HPLC has been developed and this method provided a tool for standardization of the commercial Eucommiae Cortex.
하고초(夏枯草, Prunellae Herba)로부터 Ursolic acid의 함량 분석

Ursolic acid was isolated from Prunellae Herba (Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina) and identified by direct comparison with an authentic sample. A method of analysis for the evaluation of ursolic acid was developed based on extraction of ground plant material, followed by quantitative determination using capillary gas chromatography of the TMS derivative. Quantitative analysis by GC after derivatisation under mild silylating conditions showed 0.31% ursolic acid in 20 samples collected throughout regions of Korea while no ursolic acid was detected in the samples of the whole plant of Thesium chinense, a substitute for Prunellae Herba in southern regions of Korean peninsula.
목향(Saussureae Radix)으로부터 Costunolide의 분리 및 함량분석

Isolation and quantitative determination of costunolide from Saussurea lappa Clarke (Compositae) has been conducted by using HPLC method. Costunolide in an acetone extract from the crude drug was separated on a RP-18 column using a $MeOH-H_20$ mixture (65:35) as an eluent and the average content is about $1.32{\sim1.42%.$ The content of costunolide in dried extract was decreased by about 24% in seven days. However it showed a slight decrease in solution. It is highly recommended that quantitative determination of costunolide from Saussureae Radix should be conducted as early as possible after solvent extraction.

HPLC method was applied to the quantitative analysis of lupine alkaloid, matrine from alkaloid fraction of Sophorae Radix (Sophora flavescens). The average content of matrine from 20 Sophorae Radices showed $0.13{\pm}0.06%$.

The methods for isolation and quantitative determination of dioscin, a spirostanol triglycoside, from the roots of Smilax china have been developed. Isolation of dioscin was achieved by silica gel and RP-18 chromatography. The HPLC method used for quantitative determination of dioscin enabled the standardization of the crude drug. It suggests that the content of dioscin in Smilax china should be above 0.01%.
결명자로부터 aurantio-obtusin의 분리 및 함량분석

For the quality control of Cassiae Semen, anthraquinone compound, aurantio-obtusin, was isolated from the MeOH extract of Cassiae Semen (Leguminosae) and identified by the spectroscopic analysis. A quantitative analysis of aurantio-obtusin using HPLC method showed that the average contents of aurantio-obtusin were $0.03{\pm}0.01%$ in 50 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.
