This paper proposes an improved fault indication algorithm in a distribution automation system. A conventional fault indication method, so called YES-NO algorithm, could generate wrong informations under certain conditions such as line to ground fault, large motor double circuit line. In order to prevent mal-operation of fault indicator, direction of fault current are used as well as magnitude. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm has been testified by computer simulation using Matlab power system toolbox.

Campus microgrid is designed and built by considering not only power generation but also power consumption management as connected microgrid type because the main goal of the campus microgrid is to save power consumption costs. There are many functions to achieve the goal and they are mainly to use generation-based functions such as islanding operation for peak management and for emergency events. In power distribution operation, Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) is applied in order to reduce power consumption. The CVR is defined as a function for load consumption reduction by voltage reduction in order to reduce peak demands and energy consumption. However, application of CVR to microgrid is difficult because the microgrid cannot control a tap of transformer in a substation and the microgrid normally is not designed with phase modifying equipment like a step-voltage-regulator which can control voltage in power distribution system operation. In addition, an impact of the CVR is depended on load characteristics such as a normal load, a rated power, and synchronous motors. Therefore, this paper proposes an application of CVR using linear voltage control based AVR in campus microgrid with power consumption reduction considering characteristics of load and component in the microgrid. The proposed system can be applied to each buildings by a configuration of power distribution cables; and the application results and CVR factor are presented in this paper.

In this paper, restoration solution algorithm to improve reliability better than restoration system of DAS(Distribution Automation System) is proposed in IDMS(Intelligent Distribution Management System). A strategy of IDMS restoration system to improve reliability and efficiency is proposed by analysis restoration system in DAS. Restoration sequence algorithm, distributed restoration solution algorithm considering a characteristic and a suitable restoration solution algorithm in IDMS are proposed. We overview the current distribution automation system in Korea and point out the limitations of the distribution services which can be provided by the current system. In this paper we propose a new distribution system architecture which is based on the peer-to-peer communication model. In this decentralized architecture the intelligent FRTUs can initiate data transmission without any interruption of a central server, and can exchange data with other FRTUs as peers. In order to support the peer-based distribution system, we specify the requirements for new communication network and suggest a way of improving the current distribution network where we adapt an intelligent module for protection and restoration, called MASX, and utilize the open communication network protocols. We also show how the new architecture can enhance major distribution services such as protection, automatic restoration, and equipment management.

Power automation system to operate power distribution systems can be distinguished by distribution SCADA with remote monitoring and control; and distribution automation system with basic functions such as service restoration to the distribution SCADA; and distribution management system which is operated by various applications in order to enhance distribution system operation performance based on the distribution automation system. In the technological change, a technical boundary of information technology (IT) and operation technology (OT) is being blurred by that new concepts such as interoperability. In addtion, IT/OT convergence has been proposed by the improvement of ICT and power system technology. At the viewpoint, advanced distribution management system (ADMS) to have the new concepts and to increase distribution system operation efficiency through global information and functions from the other systems has been proposed. In order to implement the ADMS, IT and OT have to be employed together on the ADMS; and the concept-based IT/OT convergence concept has been presented. Therefore, this paper introduces ADMS and IT/OT convergence and proposes a design of IT/OT convergence based ADMS system design with configurations and functions.

This paper proposes a new algorithm to find optimal location of open switches connecting feeders in distribuion system. In order to enhance power system reliability by minimizing outage area in case of fault, the load balance among the facilities such as transformers and feeders is considered to optimize. The combination of optimal position of normal open switches can be found by moving tie along the direct path connecting two feeders related to the open switch while the whole optimization problem is separated into many small problems. The proposed algorithm is shown by case study results that, it is simple and takes short calculation time to apply to the DAS (Distribution Automation System) in KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Cooperation).

This paper presents benefits of multi-agent system approach and its application to the distribution automation system. Special attention is devoted to the description of hardware and communication platform used to upgrade the conventional distribution automation system structure. Service restoration of primary distribution system is selected as an example of the multi-agent system application. Application of the algorithm for multi-agent based service restoration technique is disclosed in detail. Real field test in Gochang test center of KEPCO has been performed to establish the feasibility of proposed technique.

본 논문은 배전자동화 시스템에서 계통의 설비 특성에 따라, 사고발생 시 FI 정보가 발생되지 말아야 할 곳에 생기는 FI 오류에 대한 개선 알고리즘과 적용방안을 제안하고 있다. 제안한 알고리즘을 검증하기 위하며 FI 오류가 발생하는 상황을 Matlab Simulink를 이용하여 모의하였고, 그 결과를 해석하여 알고리즘의 타당성을 입증하였다. 또한 다양한 사고를 고려하여 각기 다르게 나타나는 특성들을 종합할 수 있는 적용방안도 제안하였다.

본 논문용 전력IT 분야에 새롭게 큰 관심이 집중되고 있는 Multi-Agent System 적용에 대하여 배전자동화 시스템에서의 적용방안을 제안하고 있다. IEEE Working Group에서 Power System에 적용되는 Multi-Agent에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 이 내용을 기반으로 배전자동화 시스템에서는 어떻게 Multi-Agent System이 적용되어야 하는지에 대한 방법을 제안하고 있다.
