Vol.21 No.3

Purpose: As the concerns for the environment are gradually prioritized, increasing interests of environment-friendly buildings are drawn. Numerous researches about healthcare buildings have been performed however, they were mainly focused on convenience or healing condition for medical treatments. The hospitals consume energy and generate CO2 as twice as the residential or commercial buildings do. Various green building certification systems are globally arranged. But, it isn``t easy to find certification criteria for the green hospital besides the US and UK``s ones which are specially designed to evaluate environment-friendly medical buildings(Lim&Yoo, 2010). Methods: In this study, we investigates current conditions of Tokyo Regional hospitals in environment-friendly standpoint and also investigates the foreign certification criteria and systems for the green healthcare building and finds the possibility to apply them to Korean one. Results: Through this study, we found that the Tokyo regional hospitals can be environmentally improved by management plans and programs. Implications: Based on this analysis, Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities will be developed in near future.

Vol.26 No.11

The United States of Green Building Council defines that the green building is a high-performance building. Even though a myriad of scientists and architects have researched on sustainable architecture from the end of 20th century, they all regard only a high efficient building as a green building, overlooking of complex and qualitative features of architecture. Sustainability will be accomplished when social, economical, and environmental conditions have been balanced. A famous Australian architect, Glenn Murcutt said "We don't turn on the air-conditioning as we walk through the streets in high summer. Instead, we change the character of the clothing by which we are protected. Layering and changeability: this is the key.” An English architect David Adjaye proposed that all visitors who have subway tickets to a new museum that he designed are free in. It isn’t great technology but program which let us change. This research aims to scrutinize current problems of researches on sustainable architecture and to find new direction to be harmonized with sustainable technology.

Vol.29 No.6

Current issues of ‘Sustainability’ seem to seek the technical values and focused on the energy reduction. ‘Sustainable architecture’ is distinguished to limited meanings of ‘environmentally friendly architecture’, ‘eco-friendly architecture’, or ‘green architecture’. Sustainable architecture involves a combination of values : aesthetic, environmental, social, political, and moral. It’s about using one’s imagination and technical knowledge to engage in central aspect of the practice - designing and building in harmony with our environment. Unlike certification system of green building, the sustainable architecture guidelines suggests both development of advanced technologies and sustainable thoughts which induce changing patterns of our behaviour. This study is based on the sustainable ethics encouraging moral responsibility toward current reckless energy consumption. The citizenship of sustainable society could be achieved when these ideas are naturally embraced. The guideline involves life cycle strategy from planning to demolition, convergence of sustainable technologies and ideas, and environmental friendly solution of both city and architecture.

Vol.29 No.1

Since the late 20th century, global awareness of environmental crisis have presented new ecological ideas from various disciplines including architecture, and we have made efforts to fulfill the conflicting values of sustainable development and overcoming the ecological crisis which are difficult to co-exist. ‘Sustainability’ is a systematic and comprehensive notion involved in the continuity of environmental, economical, and social aspects of human society. Current issues of ’Sustainability’ seek only the technical basis values and focused only on the energy reduction. ‘Sustainable architecture’ is distinguished to limited meanings of ‘environmentally friendly architecture’, ‘eco-friendly architecture’, or ‘green architecture’. Sustainable architecture involves a combination of values : aesthetic, environmental, social, political, and moral. It’s about using one’s imagination and technical knowledge to engage in central aspect of the practice - designing and building in harmony with our environment.1) The international standards of modernism have severed relationships between traditional or vernacular and contemporary architecture. It also caused extinction of traditional culture and its eco-technics. This thesis researches new regionalism of contemporary architecture which is based on vernacular architecture however, seeking the casual relationships between vernacular and contemporary architecture based on vernacular architecture.

Purpose: Numerous researches about healthcare buildings have been performed however, they were mainly focused on convenience or healing condition for medical treatments. The hospitals consume energy and generate CO2 as twice as the residential or commercial buildings do(Lim, et al., 2010a:154). The public regional hospitals are especially in serious conditions. They are more than 20 years old in average. Energy efficiency and environmental friendliness in the public regional hospitals are far behind ones in private sectors. Even though the ministry of health & welfare is supporting renovation of the builidngs and enhancement of the facilities every year, it is not integrated including sustainibility. In this study, we investigates current conditions of the regional public hospital in envrionment-friendly standpoint, especially focused on Chungcheong Province area Hospitals. Methods: we investigates current conditions of the regional public hospital in envrionment-friendly standpoint, especially focused on Chungcheong Province area Hospitals. The study was executed by qualitative and quantitative evaluations with site inspection, drawing analysis and interviews. Results: Through this study, we found that the Chungnam regional public hospitals can be environmentally improved by management plans and programs. Implications: Based on this analysis, Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities will be developed in near future.

Vol.25 No.3

Even though the researches on building integrated photovoltaic system have been developed from the late 20th century, they were focused not only on technology of energy conversion efficiency of photovoltaic but for general building types such as office and housing. This is an architectural planning research for specialized function-transportable building with photovoltaic system. From Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House, the transportable architecture has been improved with advanced industrial and constructional technology through change of society. It's function has now broadly expanded. Despite it has limited access to energy infrastructure, most of the transportable buildings are still depended upon it. This research on the transportable building with photovoltaic system is to make the building more sustainable as well as to contribute reducing carbon dioxide emission which causes global warming.
