This paper presents an approach for constructing an electro-thermal model of IGBT-devices as inverters considering variable switching frequencies and battery voltage for HEV/EV. IGBT losses depend on current, battery voltage, and switching frequency. Conventional inverter system uses a fixed switching frequency, but variable frequencies operation is needed to reduce switching losses and decrease junction temperature of IGBT. This paper develops the loss function of IGBT thermal model when switching frequencies vary. As a result, a difference between real temperature and estimated temperature of IGBT is reduced and hill holding performance of HEV/EV is improved.

In an eco-friendly vehicle, the parameters of a traction motor(Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor) vary nonlinearly as the temperature variation caused by the different load conditions. It not only degrades the performance of torque control, but also causes the instable situation of control for a traction motor. This paper proposes an optimal torque control scheme of a traction motor for an eco-friendly vehicle considering temperature variation. For the this, the design of experiments was used for building a response surface model between the output torque and the operating conditions of traction motor. An approximate model is applied to the torque compensation control according to the temperature variation. The feasibility of a proposed control method is demonstrated through experiments.

This paper proposes an optimization of output power stage for DC-DC converter. Firstly, to remove the current sensor of output power stage components, an output current estimation method using output voltage of current transformer is suggested. Secondly, a multi-layer ceramic capacitor is developed and adopted as an output filter instead of a film capacitor. It achieves high performance such as output voltage ripple. With this optimization of the output stage of DC-DC converter, the cost is lower and the size is smaller.

A charging efficiency of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) is related to on-board charger(OBC) efficiency, Low voltage DC-DC converter(LDC) efficiency, amount of vehicle 12V electric component load and AC input voltage. This paper suggests a optimal charging strategy of PEVs by analyzing the quantitative impact of OBC / LDC / Electric component load / AC input power.
