This study was performed to investigate the problems of using asbestos for dental technicians. Samples for analyzing were sampled by personal sampler in 40 sampling points of 10 dental laboratories in Daegu city from December, 2003 to February, 2004 and counted with phase contrast microscopy. The results were as follows: 1. Asbestos concentration(geometric mean) of 40 sampling points in 10 dental laboratories was 0.0061 f/cc and it was under recommended industrial and indoor air standard, but the concentration of asbestos in only two dental laboratories was over indoor recommended standard. 2. The concentration of asbestos in processing room and burnout room was 0.0099 f/cc and 0.0037 f/cc, respectively. 3. The mean concentration(GM) of asbestos by kinds of casting ring liners was 0.0159 f/cc in dental laboratories using industrial asbestos, 0.0104 f/cc in them using asbestos containing ring liners, and 0.0026 f/cc in them using non-asbestos ring liners. Casting ring liners using in dental laboratories should be substituted with non-asbestos liners, because most of dental laboratories were using asbestos containing ring liners and a few of them showed higher concentration than recommended standard.
기업체 식당종사자의 근골격계 부담 작업에 대한 위험성 평가

This study was performed to find out hazardous factors in the loaded works of muscular skeletal disorders(MSDs) for four company attached to dining workers from October 2005 to June 2006. The results are summarized as follows. 1. 42.5% of workers in study group were 40-50 years old, and females were higher than males , and the average of body weight was 70kg , 57kg in males and females, respectively. Working time per day was mostly 7-9hours, and the rate of worker who had never education and training was 46%. 2. The upper part and right part of body were higher than lower part and left part in symptoms of muscular skeletal disorders. Body parts which complained of symptoms were the order of right shoulder(55%), right arm(54%), right hand(40%), waist(35%), leg(25%), and neck(24%). 3. The results of evaluation in the loaded works of muscular skeletal disorders to cooking, dish supply, preparing side dish, and washing the dishes and cleaning the floor of cooking room using RULA and OWAS checklists was action level 4(potential hazards, needs of change workplace), and the result of evaluation using back compressive force needed control measures as 779.27 lbs~1,274.04 lbs. In a view point of the result of this study, large dining rooms should be designed by ergonomic technology for the work surface height, width, and depth. The height of carrying car should be lower to 70cm, and repetitiveness and handling weight should be reduced by mechanical means, and education and training also should be performed for all of workers positively.
조선업 용접작업장의 공기중 입자상물질 및 구성성분에 관한 연구

This research was performed to evaluate the airborne personal concentration of hazardouse materials during the process of ship construction and surveyed from May 23 to June 30, 2007 in Kyungnam West Distirct, Korea. The subject was 94 ship construction workers exposed to welding fume and respirable particulate. The airborne concentrations of those were compared to Permissible Exposure Limit(PEL) from the Ministry of Labor in Korea. The airborne concentration of 23 samples(48.9%) of welding fumes was less than 5㎎/㎥, that of 16 (34.0%) was between 5 and 10㎎/㎥, and that of 8 (17.0%) was greater than 10㎎/㎥. The airborne concentration of 27 (57.4%) of respirable particulate masses was less than 5㎎/㎥ and the othere are greater than 5 ㎎/㎥. The welding fumes were identified containing the heavy metasl such as Fe, Mn, Zn, Mg, Ca, and Cu. The respirable particulates has similiar tendency with welding fumes in the component of heavy metals. But the concentration of Ca, Cu, Cr, and Ni turned out to be higher in welding fumes. Twenty (42.6%) of the 47 samples of welding fumes were exceeded PEL. In the heavy metals in welding fumes, ten (21.3%) of the 47 samples of Mn were exceeded PEL. Based on the results, the higher airborne hazardous materials were still exposed to wokers in ship construction process. It is suggested that the appropriate engineering control be applied to minimize the exposed cocnetration in ship building processes.
THI를 이용한 소음이 근로자들의 건강에 미치는 영향조사

This stud was carried out to evaluate health effects of noise using THI(Todai Health Index) from July 15 to August 30, 2001, 696 industrial workers whose health was managed by korea industrial Health Association were selected as subject of this study. The results were as follows ; 1. Study subjects, 696 workers, were divided into three groups, non-exposure group, 85-99dB group and 100dB≤group. the group who was exposed to high noise level(100dB(A)≤) showed the higher complain level than the other two groups who were exposed to less than 100dB(A). 2. Workers exposed to more than 100dB(A) displayed significantly different complaint level in aggressiveness scale, digestive scale and nervousness scale. 3. Depending on complaint level by all characteristics and noise level, workers exposed to more than 100dB(A) showed higher level in high aged workers, female, those who worked for a long time, heavy drinker, and heavy smoker and sitting workers. Form the results, we suggest that industrial hygienists have to formulate a comprehensive health management system for high level noise exposure workers included good life style, mental health, and noise deafness protection measures in order to technically control the health of noise exposure workers.
국제기구 및 외국에서 농산물중 농약잔류 허용기준의 설정절차

This study was undertaken to find out necessary measures to improve the tolerance setting system of pesticide residues on food crops in Korea which is scientifically reasonable and harmonizable with international standards. Information on tolerance setting systems of pesticide residues by Codex Alimentarius Commission, Joint FAO/WHO Meeting of Experts on Pesticide Residues, USA, EU, Japan and Taiwan was collected and analyzed. On the basis of information in the above countries, necessary actions to be taken by the Korean regulatory authorities were recommended with respect to priority setting, maximum residue limits (MRLs) setting based on field residue data, group MRLs, minor crop problems, quantitation limit and dietary intake assessment.
