소양강댐 유역의 비점원 오염 포텐셜을 평가하기 위하여 LTHIA/NPS, RUSLE그리고 ArcView GIS 모델을 사용하였다. NPS 오염 포텐셜(VI)계산은 강우유출(RI), 토양유실(EI), 농약사용량(CI), 가축분뇨(LI)와 상업용 비료(FI) 사용량을 대표하는 지수(Index)를 사용하였다. 유역의 유출심은 4.9에서 34.3cm였으며, 토양유실량은 0.25에서 802 ton/ha/year 범위로 평균은 6.46ton/ha/year이었다.

With accelerated soil erosions at the watershed, many computer models have been develoed and utilized for various purposes in recent years. The Universal Soil Loss Equation(USLE) and USLE-based soil erosion and sediment modelling system have been developed and tested because of its ease-of-use and readily available data sets in many countries. The Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control(SATEEC) system was one of these models. In this study, The SATEEC system ver 2.1 and ArcGIS Tool were used to evaluate effects of topographic factors on soil erosion estimation by adjusting values by ±50%. With these changes, there was 24.8% change in estimated soil erosion values. However, the R2 and the Nash-sutcliffe coefficient were 0.688 and 0.642, respectively. Similar trends were also found for estimated sediment yield values. These results indicated that the soil erosion values at the field levels should be evaluated first prior to its application at the watershed scale with the SATEEC system.

It is required to estimate Nonpoint Source (NPS) pollutant loadings and to evaluate emission characteristics of NPS in order to protect and manage eutrophication in a stream. Thus, the purpose of this study is to 1) calculate total pollutant loadings and pollutant loadings by baseflow from the stream using Numeric Intergration (NI), ESTIMATOR, and LOADEST, and to 2) give a guideline regarding the most appropriate model for estimating pollutant loadings through the comparison of NI, ESTIMATOR, and LOADEST. As a result of this study, of total pollutant loadings from the stream, pollutant loadings by baseflow ranges from 54 to 85 %. Therefore, because the result of this study shows that pollutant loadings by baseflow are bigger than that by streamflow, it is very necessary for the efficient management of pollutant loadings by baseflow.

Many computer models has been developed and used for understanding the current status of environmental condition and estimating the future changes. Especially GIS based systems were widely used because it helps users manipulate and analyze the spatial data easily. But it is difficult to use by non-specialists without education or tutorial. Sediment Assessment Tool for Effective Erosion Control (SATEEC) was developed to provide easy-to-use GIS interface to estimate soli erosion and sediment yield at watershed-scale. However, it is also difficult to use for beginners. Therefore, audio-visual manual was developed and its learning effects were analyzed in this study. To investigate this research, survey were conducted from Kangwon University including 34 students. The questionnaire was composed of 15 items about general effects when using manual and 5 items about visual education effect. As a result, group of educated using visual tools showed higher ability in performance and learning satisfaction. It shows that the audio-visual tools are effective for learning GIS based tools. Therefore. use of audio-visual learning materials in GIS environmental issues are highly recommended.

Due to climate changes, various effects on hydrology, environment, economy have been occurring worldwide. Various studies have been conducted to evaluate effects on water resources due to climate change. The modeling approaches have been used for these ends. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model is one of the models being used in climate change studies. In this study, the SWAT auto-calibration tool was used to calibrate hydrology at the watershed outlet and simulated evapotranspiration values were compared. As shown in this study, the hydrologic component of hydrologic cycle should be calibrated together, rather than simply comparing simulated and observed flow data at the watershed outlet. Therefore, parameters related with evapotranspiration should be included in the SWAT auto-calibration process.
