Effect of Temperature on the Degradation of Trichloroethylene by Burkholderia cepacia G4 PR1
Lee, Joon-Myoung,Jahng, Deokjin 명지대학교 대학원 1998 대학원논문집 Vol.2 No.-
Among the volatile organic compounds, trichloroethylene is one of the most frequently found contaminant in groundwater and soil. TCE has drawn much attention in terms of hazardous waste remediation, and numerous bioreactor designs have been studied for its degradation. Based on maximum TCE degradation and growth rates, Burkholderia cepacia G4 PRI is considered to be a suitable microorganism for TCE remediation. In this report, effects of temperature on the degradation of TCE by Burkholderia cepacia G4 PRI were reported. Chemical reactions proceed at a faster velocity as the temperature is raised, but optimal temperatures are usually found biological reactions. The optimal temperature for TCE degradation was 35℃. V_max and K_m values were 5.23 nmol TCE/min·mg protein and 54.52μM, respectively.
