The Chines yuan(RMB) has steadily appreciated since its exchange rate system reform on July 21, 2005. The yuan`s flexibility of exchange rate has been limitedly allowed under the currency basket peg system. However, China is now in a situation which necessitates greater exchange rate flexibility. Externally, China is under pressure from advanced countries to appreciate the yuan substantially to reduce global trade imbalances. Internally, China faces more severe problems, in which its currency policy has become less effective as the large increase in forex reserves has been only partially sterilized and has added to already substantial liquidity in the banking system. China is hardly expected to give a drastic one-time realignment to the yuan`s exchange rate. Beijing would rather be likely to gradually widen the yuan`s trading band (currently set at±0.5 percent a day) against the dollar. This paper, using a non-linear threshold autoregressive model (TAR), estimates the yuan`s optimal trading band. The results show the optimum lies within the bandwidth of±3.1~±3.9 percent. This indicates that China will probably to widen the yuan`s daily trading band incrementally to a level which would be several times bigger than the current one, so as to curtail the heavy pressure for the yuan`s appreciation and to enhance the currency policy effectiveness.
Sphingomonas sp.224 균주에 의한 살균제 Tolclofos-methyl의 분해

In order to decrease level of an organopho-sphorus fungicide, tolclofos-methyl, from in situ ginseng cultivating soil, we isolated a tolclofos-methyl degrading bacteria from ginseng cultivating soil samples. The bacterial strain removed tolclofos-methyl around 95% after 3 days incubation with complete liquid media. The strain was identified as Sphingomonas sp. by 16S rDNA sequence comparison, and designated as Sphingomonas sp. 224. Through the GC-MS analysis, Sphingomonas sp. 224 was proposed to have an initiative degradation pathway generating the metabolite such as 2,6-dichloro-4-methyl phenol compound from tolclofos-methyl. In addition, Sphingomonas sp. 224 was confirmed representing the effective degrading capability to tolclofos-methyl in situ soil.
발작을 주소로 내원한 Walker-Warburg 증후군 1례

Walker-Warburg syndrome (WWS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by congenital muscular dystrophy, brain (lissencephaly, hydrocephalus, cerebellar malformations) and retinal abnormalities, and is associated with mental retardation and seizures. In 1942, Walker was the first to report a case of WWS. As Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy or muscle-eye-brain disorder, it has been demonstrated that the glycosylation defects of α-dystroglycan which take a great role in muscle and neuron regeneration are at the root of these disorders. We report a five months old male patient who was presented with seizures as the chief complaint and was diagnosed with WWS, based on clinical criteria, MRI, muscular biopsy, ocular examination, and laboratory findings.
RI 폐기물 내 방사성요오드 분석을 위한 분리 및 회수

Various kinds of RI wastes are discharged from licensed organizations of radioisotopes les such as hospitals and clinic organizations, educational organizations, research institutions, and public organizations. Radioiodines such as $^{125}I\;and\;^{131}I$ are radioisotopes mainly used in nuclear medicine and industry. A method for the determination of radioiodines in RI wastes has been applied to measure low level activity using acid decomposition method and HPGe gamma ray spectrometer. Prior to analysis of real samples, $^{131}I$ reference solution and 10 g of yellow tissue paper was added to flask in mantle and was heated in 100 mL of 0.4 N $K_2Cr_2O_7$ and 100 mL of 9 M $H_2SO_4$, and then distilled after adding 10 mL of 30% $H_2PO_3$ and 1 mL of 30% $H_2O_2$. The condensed iodine by circulator was extracted into $CCl_4$, then back-extracted into the aqueous phase with 10 mL of 5% $K_2SO_2$ solution. Finally, $^{131}I$ was measured at 364.48 keV using HPGe gamma ray spectrometer after precipitation and filtration. Chemical yield of three steps such as acid decomposition process, chemical separation process, and precipitation and filtration process was more han 94% respectively, MDA(Minimum Detectable Activity) of $^{131}I$ at this analytical condition was 0.6 Bq/g.
Fusarium prolifertum KGL0401의 지베렐린 생산 최적조건과 waito-c 생장에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 지베렐린을 생산하는 곰팡이로 알려진 야생균주 Gibberella fujikuroi보다 더 많은 지베렐린을 생산하는 균인 Fusarium proliferatum KGL0401를 꽈리 뿌리에서 분리하였으며[13], 지베렐린 생산을 위한 최적 탄소원과 질소원의 종류, C:N ratio에 대해서 실험을 수행하였다. 지베렐린 중 생물학적 활성이 가장 높은 $GA_3$를 가장 많이 생산하는 탄소원은 sucrose(7.02 ng/ml)이었으며, 질소원은 $NH_4Cl$(187.63 ng/ml)이었다. 그리고 최적 C:N ratio를 찾기 위해 탄소원(0 - 1.5 M)과 질소원(0 - 0.47M)을 배지에 첨가하였다. 결과적으로 최적 탄소원과 질소원의 ratio가 0.5 M : 0.17 M일 때 생물학적 활성을 가진 $GA_3$를 140.0 ng/ml로 가장 많이 생산하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 bioassay 결과 $GA_1,\;GA_3\;GA_4$과 $GA_7$의 함량이 가장 높았던 C:N ratio가 0.5 M : 0.17 M 일 때의 배양액 10 ul을 처리한 waito-c 볍씨의 길이가 평균 11.1 cm로 가장 높게 나타났다. Fusarium proliferatum KGL0401 was previously isolated from Physalis alkekengi var. francheti plant roots and exhibited higher GA productivity than wild type Gibberella fujikuroi. The :tim of this work was to find out an optimal culture condition for GA production. Various carbon(fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, sucrose) and nitrogen($KNO_3$, urea, glycine, $NaNO_3,\;NH_4Cl$) sources were used for this study. GAs activities were analysed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry(GC-MS). The highest yield of $GA_3$ was found in the growth medium supplemented with sucrose as carbon source and $NH_4Cl$ as nitrogen source. The optimum carbon-nitrogen concentration for $GA_3$ production was found to be 0.5 M:0.17 M. Supernatant was prepared from the culture fluid of F. proliferatum KGL0401 cultured for 7 days at 3 0'E and the 10 ul supernatant was treated with 2 leaf-rice seedling.

내생성 진균류는 초본류의 식물체 내에 주로 서식하며, 식물의 병원균으로부터 숙주를 보호할 뿐만 아니라, 식물 생육에 유리하게 작용하는 다양한 대사 산물을 생산한다. 매우 흔히 접할 수 있는 사구식물의 뿌리로부터 49종의 균류를 분리하여 식물 생장 촉진 활성이 있는 균주를 선별하였다. 결과적으로 37균주(75.5%)는 awito-c벼의 생육을 촉진하였으며, 11균주(22.5%)는 생육을 저해하였으며, 1균주(2%)는 생육에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않았다. Gibberella fujikuroi와 증류수 및 Czapek broth 배지를 control 로 사용하여 실험을 수행하였다. 결론적으로 사구식물 내생균류의 많은 부분은 숙주식물의 생육과 발달을 조장하는 대사 산물을 생산함을 알 수 있었다. Endophytic fungi predominantly inhabit grasses, and produce a variety of beneficial metabolites for plant growth, as well as help their hosts against pathogens and herbivores. Current study was focused on plant growth promoting activity of endophytic fungi inhabited in the roots of sand dune grasses. We collected 49 fungal isolates from the roots of four most common sand dune grasses and screened them for their growth promoting capacity. Results showed that 37 fungal isolates (75.5%) promoted plant height and shoot length of waito-c rice, 11 fungal isolates (22.5%) suppressed it, while 1 fungus (2%) showed no effect on the growth attributes. The fungal strain Gibberella fujikuroi, along with distilled water and Czapek broth medium, were taken as control for this experiment. It was concluded that a major proportion of endophytic fungi inhabited in the sand dune plants produce metabolites, and thus help in growth and development of the host plant.
