In this study, a portable cooling equipment for protective clothing that can reduce the circulating air temperature by 6 ℃ and achieve 30 W of cooling power using thermoelectric modules (TEMs) was developed to make a better use of the previously designed cooling system from the view point of efficiency. The detailed dimensions of the heat sinks were theoretically optimized by considering the fan curve and the system impedance curve to achieve both the target air flow rate and air temperature reduction. Using a prototype of the portable cooler consisting of two TEMs, the cooling power, COP, and the air temperature reduction capabilities of the cooling equipment were experimentally studied while varying the applied voltage of the TEMs from 2 to12 V and fan from 6 to12 V. The target air temperature reduction and cooling power were achieved when the TEMs and the fan were operated at 8 V and 6 V, respectively. When 12 V and 6 V were applied to the TEMs and fan, respectively, the maximum cooling power of 33.4 W was obtained showing a relatively low COP of 0.3. When the voltage applied to the TEMs was reduced to 2 V, keeping the fan operation voltage at 6 V, a maximum COP of 1.3 and a cooling power of 9.7 W were found.

This study attempted to understand the place and space of migrants. The purpose of this research is to understand the context of discourse on the marginalization of migrants and place making strategy by migrants, examining the possibility of subaltern perspective for the understanding of positionality in marginalized migrants. For this purpose, this research reviews the concept and positionality of subaltern, reveals the discourse of marginalized migrants and their residential segregation through the perspectives of subaltern positionality. The space of migrants tends to differ by the times and circumstances. Generally, migrants are confronted by diverse discrimination from mainstream society, and excluded from the policies and practices of migration. Mainstream society tends to limit the space of migrants into specific areas through discrimination, which results the spatial segregation of migrant place from mainstream society. However, mainstream society tends to deny this segregation project regarding it as a result of cultural difference by migrants themselves. Migrants, marginalized as the process of otherness, attempt to use their agencies through place making strategies such as practice of identity, the compromise strategy with low class, and the forming of an enclave, making locality in the marginalized space. Thus, the marginalization of migrants and their segregation of residential space, and their place making strategies are closely related to the perspective of subaltern.
