Objectives : The mechanical properties of Korean electric cupping systems are studied via experimental measurements. The study aimed at establishing the fundamentals of industrialization and systemization of oriental medicine device industry, as well as improving the quality of life for many Koreans. Methods : We reviewed the studies on traditional cupping as well as modern one to fine necessary factors for electric cupping systems. To characterize the mechanical properties of Korean electric cupping systems, we measured the pressure characteristics of commercially available electric cupping system by using an automatic pressure acquisition system and a standard cup. The pumping capability was checked at 40 seconds, and the stability of the suction cup was checked at 600 seconds. We also acquired the noise level of each system in clinical setting. To check the portability of each system, we also measured its physical dimensions. We scrutinized system manuals provided by the system manufacturers. Results : It took less than 5 second to reach the pressure if the connection between the air hose and the vacuum valve of the cupping system was secure. Pressure diminished to no more than 10% for 600s for all systems. Noise levels were 55~70 dB. Increase in pressure was too fast to control for a designated vacuum level except for one product. Conclusions : The Pumping ability of the systems is impressive and reliable. Pressure retention ability of each cup is quite reliable and reproducible. Therefore, their mechanical performances were worthy of recommendation. Some of them had noise level higher than 60 dB and they were bothersome. It was also suggested that the control for low to middle pressure needed to be accomplished by the cupping system.

남성 알코올 의존 환자들에서 금주 치료 후의 혈청 지질 농도 변화

목 적 만성 알코올 환자의 정신과적 치료에 있어 금주는 가장 기본적이고 필수적인 요소이다. 여러 연구들은 알코올 섭취량과 심혈관계 위험도 사이에'J'자형 또는'U'자형의 관계를 보고하고 있다. 따라서 금주 치료가 심혈관계 위험도를 감소시킬 것으로 예상되나, 심혈관계 위험도와 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있는 혈청 지질에 대한 연구들은 다소 상반된 결과를 보고하고 있다. 본 연구는 만성 알코올 환자에서 단기간의 금주가 혈청 지질에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보는 것이다. 방 법 저자들은 DSM-IV 진단기준에 따라 알코올 의존으로 진단되어 정신과 폐쇄병동에 입원한 28명의 남자 환자를 대상으로 1개월 간의 금주 치료 전후 혈청 지질농도를 비교하였다. 결 과 1개월간의 금주 후에 혈청 중성지방과 고밀도 지단백 농도가 저하되는 것으로 나타났다. 총콜레스테롤과 저밀도 지단백 농도는 통계적으로 유의미한 변화를 보이지 않았으나 각각 감소, 증가하는 경향성을 보였다. 결 론 금주 치료가 혈청 지질 상태를 개선시켜 심혈관계 위험도를 줄여줄 수 있을 것이라는 기대와는 달리, 1개월 간의 금주는 심혈관계 위험도와 음의 상관관계가 있는 고밀도 지단백의 농도를 감소시키는 결과를 보였다. 이는 기존의 몇몇 연구에서 보고된 바와 같이, 단기간의 금주는 오히려 일시적으로 심혈관계 위험도를 높일 우려가 있는 것으로, 알코올 의존 환자에 대한 금주 치료시 심혈관계 질환에 대한 주의가 필요함을 시사한다고 하겠다. Objectives : The treatment of alcohol dependence requires maintaining abstinence. However, some previous studies have suggested that the abstinence may increase the cardiovascular risk in patients with alcohol dependence. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of alcohol abstinence on lipid profile in Korean male patients with alcohol dependence. Methods : Twenty-eight male patients with alcohol dependence were recruited from a psychiatric unit located at Gangneung Dongin Hospital. Lipid profiles of the patients were compared before and after a month of alcohol abstinence. Results : After abstinence of 1 month, high-density lipoprotein(HDL) cholesterol and triglyceride(TG) level was significantly decreased(p=0.000; p=0.0086, respectively). Low-density lipoprotein(LDL) cholesterol level showed a tendency to increase(p=0.066). Total cholesterol level also showed a tendency to decrease(p=0.074). Conclusions : These results show that acute abstinence of alcohol might paradoxically aggravate dyslipidemia in patients with alcohol dependence. Thus, this study shows that more concern associated with cardiovascular risk is needed during short-term abstinence period.

The mechanical and impact properties of the stitched Spectra composite was studied. The Spectra fiber reinforced vinylester composites were stitched with plain stitch to improve mechanical and impact resistant properties. The Spectra liber was used as a stitching thread and the composites were stitched twice in alternating sequence with plain stitch. The stitched composite showed different behavior with stitch densities in tensile and flexural properties. The effect of stitching has been changed with the mechanical properties measured under different restrained condition. The stitching has improved the preserving properties of the woven laminate composite structure by restricting the damage propagation.

In this paper, we propose the direction of development for EOD robot. We collected and analyzed the opinions of EOD teams. In order to verify the opinions, we conducted QFD(Quality Function Deployment) analysis. Based on the QFD analysis, we work out the priority of EOD robot development. And we establish the goal of development(target system) and suggest the development direction of EOD robot on each issue.

The following results were obtained from the observation on the change of plasma cortisol concentration in the experiment of intravenous administration of Haengsoyeum Water Extract in the rabbit. And the effects of Haengsoyeum extract on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig trachea smooth muscle. 1. In intravenous administration the plasma cortisol concentration increased significantly about 1 hours after with a does of 0.2 ml/kg. 2. In intravenous administration the plasma cortisol concentration increased significantly about from 1 to 3 hours after with a does of 0.4 ml/kg. 3. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig to histamine $10^{-4}\;M$ was significantly inhibited by Haengsoyeum extract. 4. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig to acetylcholine $10^{-4}\;M$ was considerably inhibited by Haengsoyeum extract. 5. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of isolated guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine $10^{-4}\;M$ was inhibited by Haengsoyeum extract.

Chronic periodontitis is one of the most common diseases in clinical dentistry, which requires various surgical interventions to treat the moderately to severely destructed supporting periodontium. Most patients have anxiety and fear to these surgical procedures and dentists often have problems dealing with these patients. By applying the conscious sedation technique in outpatient units, periodontists have become able to manage their patients successfully with less anxiety or fear. Also, we have experienced the increased level of patients' satisfaction. Generally, periodontal treatments are time consuming procedures and patients are usually reluctant to the periodontal instruments. This study is focused on the sedation procedure with intravenous midazolam infusion performed in Department of Periodontology of Ewha Womans University Hospital. Using questionnaires, we evaluated 80 randomly selected patients for the anxiolytic effect of intravenous midazolam. Anxiety control using IV sedation was very helpful in performing various periodontal reconstructive and advanced surgical procedures in implant dentistry.

Password with a combination of 4-digit numbers has been widely adopted for various authentication systems (such as credit card authentication, digital door lock systems and so on). However, this system could not be safe because the 4-digit password can easily be stolen by predicting it from the fingermarks on the keypad or display screen. Furthermore, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, contactless method has been preferred over contact method in authentication. This paper suggests a new password input method based on eyeblink pattern analysis in video sequence. In the proposed method, when someone stands in front of a camera, the sequence of eyeblink motions is captured (according to counting signal from 0 to 9 or 9 to 0), analyzed and encoded, producing the desired 4-digit decimal numbers. One does not need to touch something like keypad or perform an exaggerated action, which can become a very important clue for intruders to predict the password.
