Manufacturing and Temperature Measurements of a Sodium Heat Pipe

A high-temperature sodium stainless steel heat pipe was fabricated and its performance has been investigated. The working fluid was sodium and it was sealed inside a straight tube container made of stainless steel. The amount of sodium occupied approximately 20% of the total volume of the heat pipe and its weight was 65.7gram. The length of a stainless steel container is 1002mm and its outside diameter is 25.4mm. Performance tests were carried out in a room air condition under a free convective environment and the measured temperatures are presented. The start-up behavior of the heat pipe from a frozen state was investigated for various heat input values between 600W and 1205W. In steady state, axial temperature distributions of a heat pipe were measured and its heat transfer rates were estimated in the range of vapor temperature from 50$0^{\circ}C$ to 63$0^{\circ}C$. It is found that there are small temperature differences in the vapor core along the axial direction of a sodium heat pipe for the high operating temperatures. But for the range of low operating temperatures there are large temperature drops along the vapor core region of a sodium heat pipe, because a small vapor pressure drop makes a large temperature drop. The transition temperature was reached more rapidly in the cases of high heat input rate for the sodium heat pipe.

The Asan Bay area Korea is situated in an unbalance or water supply and demand relating to the Ansung, Sapkyo, Dangjin and Youmwha rivers and their estuary reservoirs. The multi-reservoir operation was studied by the Hierarchical Operation Model for Multi-reservoir System(HOMMS) assuming that these four estuary reservoirs were linked to each other in order. The result of this study shows that storage capacity deficiency in 2011 was estimated as 8 MCM in the Sapkyo and 31 MCMin Dae Ho estuary reservoir, respectively. In case of linking four reservoirs, the water deficiency will not occurs in all the reservoirs even if additional agricultural water of 78 MCM/yr was supplied. Total additional water demand for agricultural, municipal and industrial uses was estimated as 321.9 MCM/yr while additional supply by linking the reservoirs was estimated as 160.4 MCM/yr. 50% of additional demand. The remaining 161.5MCM/yr would be supplied transferring other watershed.

Trihalomethanes in drinking water occur principally as produ-cts of Chlorination process. The four most frequently occuring trihalomethanes are chloro-form, bromodichlorome thane, dibromochloromethane and bromo-form. Chloroform and other THMS have been shown to cause canser in laboratory animals. Trihalome thanes in tap water of Taegu, Kimcheon and Kumi Citi-es were analysed by gas chromatograph. The contents of THMS were 0.030 mg/l (Taegu), 0.013 mg/l(Kim-cheon) and 0.025 mg/l (Kumi). To eliminate THMs in drinking water, (1) use of an oxidant disinfectant that does not generate THMS in water. (2) treatment to reduce precursor concentrations prior to chlori-nation. (3) treatment to remove THMs after formation.

Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior-superior mediastinum. Although most thymomas are encapsulated and therefore surgically curable, they show rare invasion. Approximately one-third of the invasive thymomas have been reported to penetrate the lung and pleura. But, the endobronchial polypoid growth is a rare mode of extension. Moreover, we have experienced an unusual case of invasive thymoma, predominantly lymphocytic type, which extended into bronchial lumen, and associated with aspergilloma.

Several methods of water quality classification have been developed using biological indices. Saprobic system ,was developed first by Kolkwitz and Marsson(1908) and is widely used. This system is based on the tolerance of aquatic organisms to four levels of pollution. Other systems are based on the diversity and tolerance of aquatic species as affected by pollution. Biological indices offer some advantages when compared to chemical indicators. These methods are more comprehensive and reflect the overall water quality, conditions over a period of time preceding the survey, but preclude an accurate quantification of water quality using only biological indicators.
