        초, 중, 고등학교 근로자의 산업재해 특성

        Objective: This study aimed to describe the characteristics of industrial accidents of support workers in the elementary, middle and high schools. Background: Schools play an important role as public institutions in society, and school safety is recognized as an important part of public safety. Method: In this study, 768 injured persons in 2015 have been categorized by the elementary, middle, and high school. Also, these data were analyzed regarding properties of injured persons and accidents by school type. Results: Among 768 injuries, 84.2% of injuries were women, and 53.7% were aged ≥40 years. Slips and falls were the most frequent type of accident (39.1%), followed by high temperature (19.0%), and struck by (13.5%). Legs/feet were the most common injured body part (36.7%), followed by arm/hand/finger (30.6%), and trunk/back (12.7%). Conclusion: There was a significant difference in injured person distributions of size of employment, work experience, and accident time according to school types. Application: The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing preventive policy reflecting the characteristics of accidents of school workers.

        서비스업 근로자의 직종별 근로환경 및 안전의식

        Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of working conditions and workers` safety awareness by types of occupation in the service industry. Background: While Korea`s service industry continues to grow, the number of occupational injuries also continues to increase. Method: This study carried out a questionnaire survey in eight occupations of service industry. Service workers were surveyed in terms of working conditions, including employment status, salary level, and safety education experience, and also in regards to safety awareness, including the level of work hazard and level of compliance with safety regulations. Results: The questionnaire survey found that the eight occupations had different distributions of employment status, as well as different averages in age, work experience, and salary level. Furthermore, the survey identified differences in the level of work hazard and level of compliance with safety regulations according to occupation. Conclusion: The findings of this study signify the need to establish customized injury prevention measures for each occupation according to its own characteristic working conditions, worker composition, and safety awareness. Application: The relationship between working conditions and safety awareness identified in this study is expected to contribute to the design of injury prevention measures.

      • 두개저에 발생한 염증성 가성종양의 치료 결과

        This study was performed to evaluate the response to steroid and radiation therapy in inflammatory pseudotumors (IPT) involving the skull base. Eight patients with inflammatory pseudotumor of the skull base were retrospectively evaluated. Of these, six patients were diabetic. All patients underwent an initial high dose of steroid therapy. Seven out of eight patients underwent subsequent low doses of steroid maintenance. Additional low dose radiation therapy was performed on six patients. We reviewed the medical records and radiological findings of the patients to evaluate their responses to the steroid and radiation therapy. In all patients, the initial response to steroid therapy was satisfactory. However, seven patients showed recurring symptoms after the cessation of steroid therapy. In five out of six patients, low dose radiation therapy resulted in recurrences. On follow-up MR imaging, none of the patients showed complete remissions of the disease. This observation demonstrates aggressive clinical characteristics of IPT involving the skull base and its poor response to steroid therapy and low dose radiation therapy. For improving control, more aggressive initial efforts including high dose radiation therapy with or without concurrent steroid therapy may play a causative role.

        조선업종 사고재해자와 질병재해자의 특성 비교

        Objective: This study compares the characteristics of occupational accidents and illnesses in the shipbuilding industry. Background: Korea"s shipbuilding industry has developed into a powerful shipbuilding country but has a lot of occupational injuries and illnesses. Method: This study analyzed 1,908 injured persons registered for occupational injuries and illnesses in 2017. Results: The results show that 45.7% of the total injuries and illnesses were deaths or disabilities. The proportion of illnesses increased with age and accounted for 55.2% of injured workers aged ≥60. While 57.4% of occupational accidents occurred during the first year of work experience, 63.3% of illnesses occurred in workers with over 20 years of work experience. Also, 67.6% of illnesses occurred in companies with ≥2,000 employees, while 59.0% of occupational accidents occurred in companies with <100 employees. The most common accident type is a fracture, while the proportion of hearing loss and musculoskeletal disorders are high in the case of occupational illnesses. Conclusion: The injuries accounted for 64.1% of those over 50 years old, and workplaces with ≥2,000 employees were most common (46.2%). Also, there was a significant difference in the distributions between injuries and illnesses in the shipbuilding industry. Application: The results of this study can be used for developing injury prevention policies in the shipbuilding industries.

        건물청소원 직종의 위험성평가 매트릭스 도출 및 재해예방

        Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop risk assessment matrices for building cleaning jobs and to suggest preventive measures against unacceptable risks with high risk of accidents to reflect them in accident prevention policy and to induce safety work of field workers. Background: In order to prevent industrial accidents, the risk assessment for the occupation type should be preceded. Based on the results, it is necessary to establish and implement the accident prevention measures for the dangerous work that has a high possibility of accidents and large damages in case of occurrence. Method: In this study, a risk assessment matrix was derived by analyzing 1,645 building cleaner accident data approved as a work related injuries in 2015. Based on the results of risk assessment, Measures for the prevention of accidents by risk work were suggested. Results: The 16 risk factors were found during the building cleaners" working, the most dangerous hazards of them were slipping on the floor (or the stairs) and falling on the ladder. Conclusion and Application: The results of the risk assessment matrix analysis using the accident data for occupational cleaning workers and the suggestion of the accident prevention measures for the high risk work can be useful for suggesting the safe working methods of the workers in the building cleaning workers concentrated on the aged female workers.

        피혁제조 공정 중 토글 작업에서 요통과 관련된 요추 부하의 생체역학적 분석과 개선 방안

        Low back disorders (LBDs) have been the most common musculoskeletal problem in Korean workplaces. It affects many workers, and is associated with high costs to many companies as well as the individual, which can negatively influence even the quality of life of workers. The evaluation of low back disorder risk associated with manual materials handling tasks can be performed using variety of ergonomic assessment tools such as National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Revised Lifting Equation (NLE), the Washington Administrative Code 296-62-0517 (WAC), the Snook Tables etc. But most of these tools provide limited information for choosing the most appropriate assessment method for a particular job and in finding out advantage and disadvantage of the methods, and few have been assessed for their predictive ability. The focus of this study was to evaluate spinal loads in real time with lifting and pulling heavy cow leathers in variety of postures. Data for estimating mean trunk motions were collected as employees did their work at the job site, using the Lumbar Motion Monitor. Eight employees (2 males, 6 females) were selected in this study, in which the load weight and the vertical start and destination heights of the activity remained constant throughout the task. Variance components (three dimensional spaces) of mean trunk kinematic measures were estimated in a hierarchical design. They were used to compute velocity and acceleration of multiple employees performing the same task and to repetitive movements within a task. Therefore, a results of this study could be used as a quantitative, objective measure to design the workplace so that the risk of occupationally related low back disorder should be minimized.

        다양한 사고분석 기법을 활용한 컨베이어 끼임사고 심층분석

        Objective: The aim of this study is to show that it is effective to use of a set of different and appropriate accident analysis methods for comprehensive accident analysis. Background: When an accident happens, investigation and analysis of the accident can be conducted for various purposes. The most important purpose among them is to prevent any similar accident by analyzing the root causes, and consequently establishing and implementing preventative measures. To achieve it, the identification and elimination of the fundamental causes of the accident rather than superficial causes should be emphasized. In reality, however, there is a tendency to conduct only perfunctory investigation and analysis due to the limited time and technology. Method: In this study, several official accident analysis methods with different strengths and areas of application were used as a set, and the stuck-in-the-conveyor belt accident was analyzed in depth. The accident analysis methods used in this study were "Events & Causal Factors Charting and Analysis", "Barrier Analysis", "Change Analysis", "Root Cause Analysis", and "SINTEF models for accident cause analysis". Also, the method of "analysis of major events at each stage of the facility life cycle" was presented and applied in the study as a new additional analysis method for systematic analysis. Results: By using a set of accident analysis methods, we were able to analyze the cause of the accident systematically and in-depth. Conclusion: Accident investigation and analysis using appropriate investigation methods contribute more effectively and objectively to derive causal factors, such as contributing factors and root causes. Application: It may be used as a suitable technique for investigating and analyzing accidents at workplaces and accident investigation agencies.
